My diet is always limited to meat/protein the size of a deck of cards, that same amount carbs (like potatoes), and the other half of the plate is low carb veggies/green salad. I had left over steak fillet, no potatoes but fresh steamed beets and beet greens, asparagus, and half a small tomato. Then we took a 3.5 mile brisk walk with the dog along a woodland stream trail.

I discovered the secret of not gorging myself on Thanksgiving: Hire somebody else to come in and cook! We'd done it before and last week I decided I was way to stressed out (for a variety of reasons) to cook Thanksgiving dinner for 10 by myself, so I called my fave catering company and they sent out the fabulous Jennifer, who cooked AND cleaned up! Yay!

And as a result of not being in the kitchen all day, I only ate what was in front of me at actual dinner time, which was basically just a taste of everything. Believe it or not, the scale was actually DOWN a bit the next day! Amazing...

I ate pretty moderately, but allowed myself a couple of cookies and a slice of my own chocolate pecan torte.

Weirdly, I ate more yesterday (the day after Thanksgiving). Go figure!

We splurged just a tiny bit. My husband and I are valiantly trying to follow a lower-carb, Paleo-Primal-ish diet, but decided that a "few extras" for Thanksgiving were ok.

We ate:
Roast turkey
Roasted green beans/mushrooms tossed in balsamic marinade and a bit of fresh parmesan (couldn't find decent asparagus at the store)
Mashed yams in little orange cup halves - husband thought these were hilarious, and they were *delicious*. Having the mashed yams portioned out into scooped-out orange halves helped with portion control.
stuffing made without bread of any kind: turkey sausage, caramelized onions, mushrooms, white wine, butter, olive oil, fresh tarragon. Also delicious.
cranberry sauce
gluten-free turkey gravy made with cornstarch, drippings, broth etc.
wine

So the splurges for us were the yams, the bit of butter in some recipes, and the bit of parmesan on the balsamic roasted green bean/mushroom dish, my cranberry sauce (husband doesn't like it), the bit of gravy, two glasses red wine. We didn't keep the gravy with the leftovers, as it's much higher carbohydrate content than we think is worth the trouble. I don't mind higher carb content, but prefer if it comes from nicer vegetables, nuts or something like that. OR...a sinfully good chocolate something or other. Gravy just isn't splurge-worthy, imo.

Up a pound the next morning, down 0.8 of a pound this morning (yeah, I braved the Black Friday shopping crowds on my feet most of the day yesterday).

It worked out rather well.

I saw an excellent speaker at a seminar last week and he suggested that we set a goal to not complain for 21 days straight. I am, therefore, unable to comment on this thread.

The wine was flowing before noon and I had wine, cheese, nuts, cream cheese dip before dinner! Then I tried everything on the table and had two kinds of pie with ice cream! More wine throughout the day and then turkey sandwiches and more pie with ice cream with Scrabble! I don't regret one sip or bite.

Oddly, my stomach is looking flatter than it has in ages this morning. Go figure!

Ate a bit more than I was planning, but the food itself was healthy (due to various diets people were on). So basically gluten free and dairy free. Lots of meats, veggies, and fruits. The only "bad' thing was the flourless chocolate cake I made -- but dark chocolate is good for you right ?

I didn't do too bad! The bacon turkey got rave reviews, and our guests brought pumpkin cheesecake and stuffing with real butter, and the pumkin pie "mudslides" were flowing... but everyone ate a sensible amount, then we went out for a walk around the pier and came home for a dance tournament on the Kinect. Not terrible.

Mo, feel better soon!

At dinner I ate until I felt full, but not stuffed. I had a spoonful of everything, and a little bit of turkey breast meat and a little bit of ham. Later, I had coffee (with cream) and a slice of cherry pie. And then a little square of homemade fudge. Mo and I are on the same wavelength--I did drink a lot of red wine over the course of the day, probably about 2 glasses worth, hee hee.

Mo- I hope you are feeling better as the day goes on.
Claire- good job!
It's funny... I make pecan pie every year because it's my husbands favorite, and everyone raves about it, but I have never as much as tasted it. Something about it has never appealed to me. But I had a small bite last night to see what all the fuss was about...and oh my goodness, it WAS yummy!

After wrestling with a pale, naked turkey at 9am, I decided to become a vegetarian (well, not exactly, but it really grossed me out)!

This year I didn't make any gooey cassaroles with canned soup as a binder. Our side dishes were stuffing (which I didn't touch), homemade mashed potatoes, fresh green beans and corn a friend brought some fresh cranberry relish with orange peel. I pigged out on the veggies and mashed potatoes and gravy and had a glass of wine. I felt amazingly good afterwards...until I had pecan pie and ice cream much later. Why did I do that?!!

Good for you Kim! We went out to a restaurant, so it was automatically portion controlled - bonus! Skipped the dessert because neither of us like pumpkin pie and that was the only option. Also avoided the remaining 3/4 pound of cheesecake in the fridge somehow Wine was (as usual) my downfall. 3 glasses.
I also got in an early evening 5K the night before for good measure. For better or worse, I awoke early this morning with intestinal upset and am down a pound today. Skipped my morning coffee just to be safe and am going for a light lunch until I feel 100% again.

The hubby and I managed to get out for an AM bike ride and I steered clear of the chips and onion dip that was sitting out before dinner. I had reasonable portions and 2 small glasses of wine with dinner. :-)

BUT.... Don't ask me how much porto and apple crisp I consumed while playing Canasta.

I was brave enough to step on the scale this morning and was only up by one pound.

How did everyone else do?
