Wow. I can't believe I haven't posted in quite some time. We just booked a trip to Hawaii in January so I'm intent on losing a few pounds by then.

Halloween was good. I think I may have eaten 3 mini candy bars all weekend. Luckily no one brought any candy to the office so that helped a lot.

In terms of activity, I've signed up the Rock and Roll Half in March just to keep myself accountable the next few months.

I'm still doing the StrongLifts strength program but still don't see any changes in my body. This is after 6 months but I'll keep going at it.

I definitely need to watch what i eat the next few months so planning is key.

Thanks for your concerns about my bike accident. I am okay. I wasn't going very fast, and there wasn't any traffic. My bruises are starting to fade and I can probably start running again in a few days, a week all up after the fall. I was able to go to the gym today and do another weights session - and was okay to warm up on the cross trainer and do a few minutes on the stepper. I hope to pick up the bike itself from the bike shop tomorrow.

I am a bit disappointed to miss my regular Park Run tomorrow as it was a Pacer run - ie they have individuals who are set to run at a particular pace - and I was hoping to try for a park run PB. But there'll be another one next month.

Halloween isn't a food temptation for me (not a big deal in our lives, though I could have attended a themed friday night drinks at work) but Christmas/ end of year parties sure will be!

And yesterday, which is my day off work, showed me the danger of running out of suitable food at home. No eggs or cottage cheese or yogurt left for breakfast - so I had a slice of GF bread with cream cheese and jam - and then another one - and another one in the afternoon! Need to plan better.

A steady week here - walk with a friend and three exhausting gym sessions. Had to miss a park session due to another commitment but that is okay.

And a good week for eating for me, not stunningly good, just less snacking.

Halloween does mean we have some candy lying around but that mostly does not tempt me. I was not totally pure but fairly restrained. Come the Christmas season and Christmas cake/mince pies it will be another matter.

Anne - I hope you are okay...horrible falling off a bike!

Haven't posted for a while - have been enjoying a protracted rest during the 'off' season.

Holloween is worse than Christmas, for me. Can you say Reece's PB cups? We had 60+kids, so that took care of a lot. The trouble is folks with lots of leftovers bring them to the office...

Into the winter routine now, and adding weight training to the mix. DH is joining me for these 3 times a week. Had a session with a sports chiropractor/physiotherapist and he sorted my wonky right shoulder. He called me 'young and fit'! I told him as of this month I qualified for the seniors discount at 'Pharmasave' and 'Shoppers Drug Mart'!

Oh dear anne, I'm glad it wasn't more serious. My sister and a brother-in-law have had terrible bike accidents in the past. My sister was tossed over the handlebars and broke her pelvis--this when she was in her sixties.

Helen, if you can reduce snacking it does help. Those few calories here and there can really add up. (Written as I sit here eating a Weight Watchers ice cream bar. I was going to stop eating so many WW snacks, but not there yet.)

Sounds like a great vacation, shedev. You are welcome--I was anxious to report in on my trip. These threads really help me to stay on track.

My goodness, Anne, I hope you feel ok again!
I have had one long walk, but missed two other days. One due to slackness, and the other to family juggling.
I have reduced the evening snacking.
I'm with MsMaven and try not to get carried away. Our festive season (end of school year and Christmas) will be upon us very soon.

Rest is an important habit, and getting more is something I've been working on too.

In Australia our festive season doesn't, of course, coincide with winter (when I usually do put on weight), but the potential for weight gain is still there! I hope to chart a middle ground between eating everything in sight (particularly while cooking) and being so restrictive I can't enjoy things)

Last week I changed this with my diet as discussed in my skinnyfat thread, and also did 2 weights session, a spin class, 2 runs plus a parkrun with my daughter and rode to work and back three times.

I dropped around 3 pounds with all that, though some of it will be PM bloat shedding.

The PT at the gym has given me a 3 day a week weights schedule, or which he has shown me 1 session so far. Looks pretty good.

My cycling plan took a battering yesterday when I fell off my bike because the gear cable broke off and got tangled in the gears. I have some bruises to show for it! Happily a few people stopped and helped me, and I was able to ride home 14km, albeit in one gear. Back to catching the bus today, and a trip to the bike shop tomorrow. I love cycling in so much that hopefully I'll be back in the saddle soon.

Good points, Anna. And an important article to keep everything in perspective. For many climates, a 10-15 weight gain in winter months is not only expected and acceptable, but is probably a protection for severe weather.

I would like to keep everything in balance and not get carried away to excess: moderate alcohol, moderate sugar and starch intake, and wake up on New Year's morning feeling healthy and happy. I definitely don't want to slack off on my preventative exercises.

I know Halloween isn't exactly the healthiest holiday here in the US, but I hope you will contribute some positive feedback on this thread.

Just got back from the Halloween wedding--lots of fun! Lots of food as well. I think I was better off in Chicago than home with my huge pot of goodies to hand out to the kids--there is usually some left over for me because I buy a lot of my favorite stuff.

Didn't get much exercise except for some dancing, and while the food wasn't that healthy, I didn't have much opportunity to snack, so I am up just a few pounds.

While I am a bit worse for the wear, I feel positive about getting right back on track, beginning with taking time out to rest and unwind today. Rest is an important healthy habit, right? Looking forward to getting back to more fresh fruit and vegetables and as well as the candy and cake.
