Hi everyone! I'm another one on team struggle. I've had some ups and downs since I last chimed in on this thread. May was a difficult month for me, but things are turning around. I quit my yoga class, but managed to get together with a friend for a few runs outside. It's nothing regular, but at least it's something. I started drinking Coke again, but I finished the last bit up a couple of days ago, so I'm going to try to stay away from it again and up my water intake. It's really hot right now, so I think I'll do well today. Despite my struggles, I'm seeing some weight loss. I don't have enough courage to get on the scale, so I don't know how much I've lost, but yesterday I tried on a pair of my old work pants (before kids) and actually did them up! In fact, a pair of shorts I bought from the Gap at the beginning of May are a little loose on me today. So I'm proud of myself for not giving up and trying to keep healthy habits part of my lifestyle. Little changes make a big difference.

I do track my weight, and food, and steps lol. I have done this for over 8 years steadily. Off and on for 3 or 4 years before that. It could be that I'm just a numbers geek and I like to quantify everything. Whatever the reason, it does yeild valuable information. I'm the opposite of Steph and have my lowest weights in late fall through to early spring. I gain all through my birthday until Thanksgiving or so. I used to think this was because of the busiest time at work with winter tourism but since the patterns remain even when I'm off work I've come to realize it's truly seasonal for me. I food log even when it isn't pretty - hello 3,000 calories this last Sunday! But because I just see it as a useful tool and not a judge of my character it doesn't get me all tied up in knots. Anyway, it works for me! The pushups every night have been helping, too. If you do something often enough - even a little thing like 10 or 15 military push ups - it will make a difference.

I wish us all luck on getting and staying back on track this week!!

MM, congratulations on the new grandbaby! How exciting!!

I am also a member of Team Struggle this week! I got off track with my eating when DH was home for Memorial Day and haven't really recovered. Plus for various reasons I've missed a couple of days working out, which is just killing me. I had been off for three days before my trainer workout on Monday and thought I would die!! And then I missed yesterday as well because of a professional dinner, so I'm just a mess. Argh.

And yet, amazingly enough my weight is still reasonably reasonable. Still north of 120 but well below my "danger" number.

I've been experimenting with not tracking every bite of food and I can't decide whether it's me slacking off and getting back into bad habits, or whether it's me normalizing and maintaining rather than constantly dieting. It's all v. confusing...

I've not been able to exercise much in order to let a bad disc heal and it's been reflected in my weight. Like Khris, I am trying to do even less carbs than usual. For the last three days I've had a one-egg spinach omlette instead of a bowl of oatmeal and have lost a pound. The hardest thing right now is to content myself with ice water or iced tea in this hot weather with an itchy throat from allergies when I'd rather be slowly savoring my usual 2/3 cup of frozen blueberries. (What I'd really love would be a bowl of icecream but that's a treat best forgotten).

I have been very bad about participating in this thread--I participated a few times at the beginning of the year, and then kind of stopped. But I'm really excited, so I wanted to share: I have lost 14 pounds since the end of January! Yay! I tend to gain weight around the holidays, and this year was no exception. It took me awhile to really get back into a gym routine, but I have been religious about it for the last two months, and have been incredibly good with my eating for the last 2-3 weeks (I am generally good, but I was very, very good), and now I am back down to my happy weight.

One thing I have found helpful is that I track my weight every single week. I'm not sure how many of you do this, but I have been doing this for about 2.5 years, and now that I have a lot of data, I am able to see patterns. My weight does fluctuate, and it seems every year I gain about six or seven pounds in November/December/January, and then I lose about three of those, but the other three stay on for a very long time, until I make a very big effort to go on a strict diet (and some of those I have never lost, but have rather just decided to live with a new normal). So I guess one thing I should do in the future is watch myself more in the winter months and try to curb my weight gain as it is happening. That should be obvious anyway, but seeing the numbers really helps me understand my habits--so hopefully this winter I'll do a better job of keeping things in check! I'm finding the weight tracking is much more helpful for me on the macro level than it has been on the micro level, so I'm glad I stuck with it.

Well, I'm still flummoxed. I've been walking at least six days a week, cut back on snacks, and I've gained almost four pounds.

Everyone says it's probably muscle. Really? In only four weeks? That doesn't make sense! It's very frustrating because I need to lose weight, not gain. I do feel that my pants are tighter at the thighs, so maybe I am bulking up. Are there certain body types that bulk up more easily than others?

I'm trying not to freak out, but I'm sort of at a loss. I know it's better for my heart/blood pressure to keep exercising, but it's hard to keep motivated when I seem to be achieving the complete opposite of my goal.

I agree with Khris - I know I can lose weight if I don't eat any carbs - but that's so hard and restrictive, and I know it's not a viable long-term solution for me.

Oh well. I know I can't use this as an excuse to stop. Thanks for letting me vent.

Back from a trip to the Chicago area to see family (two-week old grandson!) "Only" gained three pounds, but since it all goes around the middle, it is a pain to come back and have to button up the jeans again. (They will stretch out in a few hours.) It's been a year since we were there, and several people did ask if I'd lost weight.

I learned a couple of things on the trip: don't buy a bag of cranberry-nut-chocolate snacks worth a thousand + calories just before getting on the airplane. I was bored and uncomfortable and ended up eating the whole thing on the way home. The second thing was that although we ate big meals and drank more wine, we did almost no snacking. I add a lot of calories in snacks at home and I think I'd be better off breaking that habit.

This week I plan on getting back into routines, especially exercise--haven't even been doing foot exercises and the tootsies are telling me so. We have quite a few events coming up and I don't want to let it all get out of control the way I did last year.

Thanks for keeping this going, Medusa. It does help to have a weekly accounting.

I've been doing all right. I decided not to worry so much about diet and decided just to kind of go with the flow for a bit. Exercise is fine and my clothes all fit but I am scared to get on the scale.

@Medusa: Agreeing with Polly on the travel. I don't know how you do it. Travel always throws me off.
@Malina: Congrats on the run!
@Polly: Good for you for having a plan : )
@Khris: I feel for you. I haven't seen weightloss in ages and I'm too lazy to do a restrictive diet.
Have a great week, Everyone!

Hi Ladies!
I am really struggling with my weight lately. I have put back on about 15 pounds from my lowest weight, and am struggling to re-loose them. I've added exercise at the gym and been watching what I eat,but the scale is not budging. *sigh*
Unfortunately, the only thing that seems to work for me is the extremely restrictive Paleo Diet- no sugar, grains, beans/legumes or dairy. It takes a whole lot of work for me to eat that way, though.

Good for you Malina!
Medusa - I'm constantly impressed with how well you stay on track/get back on track with your frequent travelling - it must make it really hard.

I'm trying to get back on track myself. I was away last week and stepped on some 'non comedy scales' that told a different story to my own 'comedy scales' (that massage the ego with a lower weight when stepped on in the right way...). I'm going to do a mini version of my 'one habit a week' plan I did at the beginning of the year and do one habit a day to focus in on things. Basically I need to eat more fruit and veg so that'll be today (Tues) - yesterday was drinking water in the morning.

Medusa, I found the week a struggle, too. I did have a highlight in my first run in 4 months! But I also had my share of pizza and wine and pasta, oh my! Got back on track today with 800 yds in the pool and good, fresh foods. Hope to maintain daily exercise and good eating through the week to regain some lost ground

Welcome to the first week of June? How did things go this week?

I found this past week a struggle. I was working on a big deadline and had to travel for work, I usually find things trickier when traveling and going out to eat a lot more. This week I'm working to get back on track.
