Although I would like to lose weight, (I was about 10 lbs lighter this time last year) I think I am at my happy weight. Im on the higher side at the moment but it's that time of the month. Just trying to stay calm, I do better when I'm calm.

It's frustrating, Tara! At our age we have so few calories to work with if we want to maintain a reasonably low body weight!! I'm rooting for you!

My go-to breakfast is a protein shake: http://www.premiernutrition.com/protein-shake.html. I get 'em by the case at Costco and it's 30 grams of protein and only 160 calories, and it keeps me going all morning.

Tara- good luck to you!
I think summer is actually the best time to cut out grains because there is so much nice fruit available. My go-to breakfast is an apple or a banana with almond butter (I don't eat peanut butter because it's actually a legume). I also like some fruit or berries mixed with a couple of spoonfuls of Greek style yogurt and a drizzle of honey.

It's not no carb but low enough I guess - I have an egg in the center of 50 cal whole wheat bread each morning. I toast the center and spread natural peanut butter on it (for a bit more protein than just butter would give me for the same fat). 2 cups of coffee with 1% milk. I have been eating this 99% of the time for over 6 years and have been pretty successful at maintaining. It's relatively quick, too. HTH

Well done Khris!
I am at not at all happy with how I am going. I hit the scales this morning at 57.8 kg (rush to calculate) ie 127.4 pounds. This is more than I have ever been apart from with pregnancies. I know that this is not overweight for my height (163cm/5"4) but I feel like I am just losing control over what I am eating and am starting to contemplate whether I should go to WW or a dietician or someone!!!

On the upside I went to Step and Pump yesterday aned have started running again to get ready for a 10k at the end of July. Only doing about 15mins atm.

Just try and think of all the good stuff you can have instead of what you can't. It sounds silly but it kinda works. A great crisp summer salad with fresh berries and grilled meat atop it sounds a whole lot more pleasing than a hamburger on a nutritionally empty bun from a drive thru, right? Mind games - whatever works!

Well, I've had to completely change my game plan!

I sat down and took a good, long look at everything, and I had to admit that what I was doing was not working, and I have been somewhat in denial. I concluded I need to go on a real diet - counting calories.

I did my BMR calculation and for my age and height, I need very few calories for my desired weight. I've been eating far too much for far too long!

I was very depressed for an entire day, but I've wrapped my head around it now and I'm looking at it as a way of taking control, rather than something that's being done TO me.

So, the official diet has begun - counting calories, writing down what I eat, making sure portion size is correct.

But now, after reading Khris' post, I'm worried! I know in the past cutting out bread/carbs really worked. I have a feeling I will have to do a lot of that. I'm just starting to think about what I can actually eat to stay within my daily calorie goals.

But - I'm feeling pleased that I've taken this step. Please - wish me luck! I'm going to need it!

The frustrating thing is that calorie counting no longer does it for me. I've done that for years and tracked every thing I eat. But if I am eating grains, I am putting weight back on. I have to eat fairly true to the Paleo Diet (no sugar, grains, beans/legumes or dairy) to loose any weight anymore. It doesn't matter how much I eat, either. I can eat a ton of lean meat/fruit/veggies and not have an issue, and I even allow myself minimal amounts of sugar and some corn and cheese.

Wow, Mary--that is a tough way to do it. Hope you are all better now.

Several events last week sabotaged my post-trip efforts to get back to where I was. I'm not sure if this is state-wide or locally, but there is a requirement now for restaurants to post calories on menus. This is like a glass of cold water tossed in your face when you see what a favorite dish has. DH and I went shopping to get some new clothes for him on Saturday and stopped for lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. Yikes, lunch was 1200 calories for a sandwich and a small bowl of soup that I tried to get DH to help with. I need stamina for shopping though.

And every extra calorie goes to my middle. It wouldn't be so bad if it were spread out over my entire body, but that isn't the case. So, with that learning experience, I know what I have to do. It's finally warm and I have new skirts to wear, but I need to be able to zip them up.

Wow, Khris! Way to go!!!

And I think you're right, monitoring food intake is the only thing that's ever worked for me long-term. I've been doing it faithfully for 15 months now and I don't plan to ever stop. (I do it with my money, too. Compulsive much?)

I posted with Khris yesterday too. I had an off weekend but did well most of the week. Basically, this is my pattern. So now that I have recognized it, time to do something about it! Perhaps I need to start off Sundays with a jog around the neighborhood or 30 minutes on the exercise bike. I'm hanging steady at just under my goal/limit weight.

Khris, congrats again, and Mary, I had that over my birthday and it's no fun way to lose a pound or two! Hope you feel better and are back into routine soon.

Oh I hope you are feeling better soon, Mary!
I posted yesterday, but I'll brag again :)
I have been doing a good job with food, and I lost 4 last week (and another last night!).
It sucks to have to monitor my food so much, but it obviously works for me.

Didn't have the best food week last week, but I found the secret to getting the scale to go back below 120 anyway: I got a rousing bout of food poisoning Sunday night and thought I was going to die!! Argh! Had to take my first sick day in six years on the job yesterday!

The bad news is I missed my trainer workout and tap class yesterday and am also going to rest up and skip boot camp class this evening. I haven't eaten in 36 hours and a full-on exercise class doesn't seem like the best idea under the circumstances.

On a going-forward basis, though, I feel all cleansed and ready to take this empty-stomach, food-averse energy and clean up my diet act. Exercise plans for the rest of the week include a trainer session, two tap classes and two boot camps.

Hi all you challengers. How did things go this week?

Things were pretty good for me, back from the latest round of travel so I was back on track with exercise and food. Feeling a bit tired though, it was a bit tricky to be motivated.
