Ok! My first week of checking in! Thanks for welcoming me into the fold!

So I've been keeping track of my goals, excercise and calories by using the "Lose it" iphone app. My short term goal is to lose 5lbs and my long term is 10lbs and to just tone up my body in general.

I've been helping cut down the calories by making smarter food choices (but i still let myself "cheat" a bit or else i would go crazy) and keeping my total calorie count at what the Lose App is recommending. I'm trying to lose a pound a week.

To help out with this I've been eating oatmeal for breakfast (only 100 cal. and filling) and at night time when i always want to pig out, i have a cup of tea instead. It's really worked well so far.

Right now for excercise I've been using my Wii EA Active game and walking, keeping track with a pedometer, when weather permits. Once it warms up i plan to walk outside a lot more.

So far i believe I have lost a pound, but that also could just be water weight lol.

Better late than never. I had a pretty good week but it doesn't show on the scale. Surprisingly, I'm up a few pounds. Hope for a better check in next week!

Great job everyone! Polly, I agree that seeing the effect of your steady small changes is fantastic! And it's great to stick with it even when things are hard (MsM, Elly).

Also, I loved this comment from MsM: "Also, I want to have a good check in next week." I love the thought that coming back and reporting on progress week after week can help motivate you!

MsM and Elly, hugs to you both and hang in there. You're both having such a rough time in such different ways and I feel for you both.

Mo - so impressed with how much you're doing, against the odds.

Mary - what can I say? Wow! You were clearly always you and special because of it a year ago, but what a stylish, stunning woman you are in the recent pic!

I'm quite pleased with myself. I'm adding 1 session of proper exercise to my habits this week and swam last night - a proper workout swim - so achieved my target for this week. More importantly I am noticing now a change in what my body craves - fruit, veg, nuts and seeds or oatcakes, rather than 'quick fix' cookies etc. I am also noticing much more the bad effect that sweet things give me - the brief high followed by a dip about 30mins later. So, a great success this week. Weight seems stable at my current lowest, but I'm hoping to gradually drop a bit further. My next target is 7lb below my current weight. To put it in context, I have still only dropped about 4 or 5 lb since January, but I have not restricted my food intake, not exercised until yesterday, and it seems to be stable weight loss so I'm happy!

Happy to hear about all the victories big (MaryK) and small and sending good thoughts to those that are struggling, whether it be with willpower/circumstances interfering with being as healthy as we would like or more serious problems like Mo's sprain and MsM's husband.

I hate to keep reporting these, but I had another bad week. No exercise, but that was mostly because of a scheduling conflict. I've basically spent the last few days holding my breath and trying not to throw up-- nausea is the worst. My fatigue isn't any better either and for the first time since I changed medications I've been having vertigo. Haven't been able to eat much, yet still maintaining or gaining weight.

It's been just about a week since I decided "to do something." I've walked 30 minutes every day (either round the 'hood or on the treadmill.) I've also been watching what I eat. Nothing drastic - just portion control and no snacks during the week. I did have treats on the weekend, but I didn't go overboard. I think I lost one pound, but it's up and down at this point so it's hard to tell. I'm not expecting instant results.

I feel so much better now that I've started to take action. I know it's not going to happen overnight. I'm going slow and steady!

Congratulations, Mary. Thanks for posting the Before photos. I think you look great at your current weight.

DH had surgery last Monday, and as the doctor keeps saying: MAJOR abdominal surgery. It's been a rough week for both of us. They let him come home Friday afternoon and it was a difficult weekend. (I think they were happy to see him go--he's not a good patient.)

My good friend came to stay with me for a few days, and despite everything--eating out and staying up late drinking champagne--I hit my goal weight for a couple of days. Then I bounced back up. I try to keep up on the food diary but can't get past breakfast. Forget exercise and my back aches from something I did wrong. I do have my sisters and cousin on standby to fly here to help out if I start falling apart. I think we are going to be okay though.

He feels much better this morning and I intend to get back on track this week. As soon as the sun comes out again I have a new pair of white jeans to try out. Also, I want to have a good check in next week.

Biscuitsmom, I hope you're joking, but if I may be serious for a moment, I've learned over the past year that the trick is really to just carry on when you've stumbled. Like, yesterday my hubby was home for the weekend and it was raining and there was a lot going on and there were many, many Jelly Bellies and Cadbury Mini-Eggs consumed. I was feeling kind of really awful about it, and then I realized that one day of less-than-stellar eating isn't going to reverse everything I've done. I just have to get back on track today, and that's what I'm doing.

It's the "I've blown it so I might as well give up for the rest of the week" thinking that really causes the damage.

Sounds like a great week, everybody! Way to go!! :)

I had a good week, too. As I mentioned last week, March 17 was the one-year anniversary of my weight-loss surgery. At the time my goal was to lose 50 pounds and get to 125. Shortly after surgery I revised my goal to 115 because I wanted to feel "really small," and the last time I remembered feeling like that was at about 115 lbs. However, I decided that I officially feel "really small," so I revised my goal back to 125 and declared victory! In fact, I'm a few pounds below that number and it feels great!

If you'll indulge me, I'm posting the worst of the "before" photos, along with the photo from March 16. What a difference a year makes, huh? I swear, it's been like a miracle!

In other news, I had a good food week and a good exercise week -- two sessions with Boot Camp Dave, two boot camp classes, and two tap classes. Hubby did one of the boot camp classes with me and it just about killed him, which cracked me up! (That's wrong, isn't it?)

Keep up the good work, everybody!

Sounds like you're both doing great. I am kind of treading water what without being able to get around yet. I got on the indoor bike 3 times and have been doing some boat poses for my abs. Not much else but hope to add swimming this week! Still relying on the BF for grocery shopping and eating a lot of frozen meals still. Hope to get into the store myself by the end of this week, as well. Holding steady in the weight department. Sundays seem to be our splurge day and this week was no different. But instead of the take out food coming to us, I got out to the restaurant myself using the cane. Progress.

That's great medusa!
I did all four of my yoga classes/treadmill walking sessions last week. I also did so much better with food, getting back to my paleo diet. I dropped a few of the pounds that I had gained over the last two weeks, but not all yet. I have not been sleeping great, and I know that has an effect.

Another Monday - time to check in on the healthy habits challenge. How are things going?

I apologize that I haven't been around much in the last week. I had another job interview and visited a different university to give a seminar. Crazy. Things have been going pretty well, though. I took one day off from working out this week because I was feeling really tired and run down. I stuck with my eating plan even while traveling, which felt good. Overall I did crossfit twice, yoga twice, and went for a nice long hike yesterday. I also saw the scale drop a couple pounds after a couple weeks of not much movement - that was nice.
