Oh Michelle! I feel your pain. I deal with years where I will bleed like during a heavy period for months and then have like two weeks off before it begins again. I am so glad that the iron is making a difference for you and hopefully you will be able to get the rest straighten out. It sucks!

Sounds like a few people have had different/rough weeks!!

Michelle I hope you sort out your IMB soon. So impressed that you're sorting yourself out with a trainer and supplements in the meantime. That also reminds me I amsuppsoed to go back and get my vit B12 levels checked as they were super-low last time I got them done.

MaryK your new workout plans sound great. Its exciting to mix it up and find somehting that challenges you, isn't it?

My exercise was great last week (got in 3 triathlon training sessions, 2 outdoor exercise classes, a 5km jog and a 1km swim). The eating was also good on my non-work days. I made fresh food and even managed to do calorie tracking on myfitnesspal.com on 2 days. Then I started nightshift and fell off the wagon. Too many chips at work. 2 softdrinks (diet but still!) every night at work.Too much ice-cream when I came home from work in the morning (embaressing to admit!!!)

No more nightshift for me for a while, so I'm hoping for some more food consisntency there. Aopart from continuing to try and track what I eat I'm going to deliberately cut down on sugar. It's my go-to snack and pick-me up an I've read some interesting things about why its bad for us. Its something I would like to read more about though.

Wow, Michelle--you've had a lot to deal with but it sounds like you are on your way to a healthier situation. I hope you can get the medical issues resolved soon.

A so-so week. I've plateaued and I need to try a different approach. I'm so close to my goal I don't want to give up. I did have one glass of wine for the first time in over a month and I didn't go crazy and order the 1400 calorie dessert--yep, the Red Lobster has their calories on the menu. (All the restaurants are supposed to have them soon--don't know if this is local or statewide.)

Some of my old injuries have been aggravated--my own fault for not getting regular exercise. A couple of decades ago I had a rotator injury on a Nautilus machine--I later learned they call it the "pec wreck" machine. This ended up in a frozen shoulder. The important thing is to keep going, but carefully, and get all the kinks worked out, then keep at it.

Four pairs of too big pants went into the Goodwill pile and I bought three new pairs to replace them. I will model when I get them back from being altered.

It is inspirational to read about how so many of you are doing so well. Thanks for sharing with everyone.

I would just like to add that anyone is invited to join the challenge, anytime. Our goal is to be inclusive! No need to worry about being too late or anything.

So Michelle, of course you are welcome! I figure something was happening in your life since we hadn't heard from you. Sounds like a lot has been going on in your life. But your are tackling it head-on, which is fantastic.

Congrats to everyone else! Even if it wasn't a perfect week, you haven't given up and are still committed to this. It's fantastic!

I did my weigh-in this morning and I'm down 3 pounds from last week. That's not so amazing, because last week my weight was up a few pounds from the week before. So it's nice to know that last week was just an upward fluctuation.

Hugs, Michelle! That's a lot to deal with! I hope the supplements kick in quickly and you are feeling better soon!!

I had an awesome healthy habits week! On Saturday, even though I had been at a conference eating hotel food for two days, I finally hit 50-point-something pounds lost since I started on March 17 of last year! Yay!! I think I am finally in last-10-pounds territory!

I also had an exciting exercise week. Found a new gym close to home where they have "indoor boot camp" classes. Went to a class on Saturday, which kicked my butt but in a great way, and then had a personal training session with the same guy on Wednesday, which had me sweating buckets and feeling like a million bucks! I have my last session with my current trainer today, and I am making a switch to the new guy this week. V. exciting. I feel like I actually have a fighting chance of getting really, you know, BUFF. LOL And like I am putting the time and money I freed up by letting go of grad school to very good use.

Oh, and a crazy NSV (non-scale victory) yesterday: Went to Target and found a really cute khaki pencil skirt. Wanted to buy it, but THE SIZE 2 WAS TOO BIG! I about died...

I'm wondering if I may be allowed to crash the party?
Health issues were the main reason I was basically MIA in January. To make a long story short, I've been struggling with energy levels and general mood for the past few months, and I totally fell off the wagon when it came to both fitness and exercise. My doctor and I think we've nailed the problem down...Every month I experience *very* heavy bleeding. Basically hemereging, and it goes on for twice as long as it would normally. Sometimes I have lighter episodes of bleeding when I'm not supposed to, too. The net effect of this is that my blood levels are out of whack and I'm quite anemic. My haemoglobin has fallen to 98 (I'm told low-average is 115), and my iron levels are a dismal 4 (when they should be around 28). The anemia fully accounts for my sluggish energy levels, apparently, especially when coupled with my slowly climbing thyroid level.
I have a number of polyps and fibroids in my uterus that will need to be removed (despite the fact that I already had surgery on them once), so in the mean time I have to just manage the anemia through medication. I've been taking iron supplements for the past three weeks,a nd I'm finally starting to feel some benefits. I still run out of gas sometimes, but by and large I'm doing better. This has enabled me to get back on track with exercise. I've hired a fitness coach to work with me, and she's got me on a program of three 45-minute workouts a week (one elliptical, one swim, one bike plus strength). I've also really uppd my game in terms of food intake, cooking more often and eating less. I dropped a denim size in January, which felt good, though it can't be called progress as such since I was just getting rid of some of the excess baggage accumulated during my bad phase.

I still have a ways to go. Sometimes my body defeats me and I'll take cabs to or from work, order dinner in or just generally cop out, but I'm trying to do less of that. I'm taking the subway more each week (so far) and mean to keep that up, and if I wind up having a lazy day, I intend to make it up the next day. Yesterday was one example -- I skipped my swim workout, felt guilty and got up early to do it this morning before work.

Pardon this novel...but I hope it explains why I want to be held accountable, like the rest of you, and also explain part of why I disappeared for awhile.

Oh Elly how worrying, annoying and frustrating for you! Your meal issues sound particularly hard to resolve.

Khris too - sending good vibes your way!

What a busy lot you all are generally, though, with great results!

I'm still happy with my own little habits. As they are so small (and more importantly I have a very low stress lifestyle at the moment) it is easy to stick with them. Current ones are drink a pint of water first thing and at lunchtime; eat every 3-4 hours; eat 5 portions of fruit/veg a day; mindful eating. This week is to add a pint of water in the evenings. This last week I've lost a bit more weight and have made it out of the 'overweight' category on my BMI, into the 'normal' category. Yippee! First time since having children so for about 8 years...

I suspect next week I will finally have to choose some exercise related habit, although with a bit of thought I can probably think up some more food related ones first... So lazy!

My week was mixed. I got both my workouts in and have decided I really like working out with my fitness partner/trainer. She, I think, is really stressed out though. Hopefully she can get some things straightened out so I don't feel bad for dragging her to the gym. I increased my cardio time and we tried some new exercises with a plan to add more on Tuesday.

With the cold weather my chronic sinus infection came back with a vengeance (because I am mildly immune deficient I tend to run low grade sinus infections for a month at a time because I provide the perfect place for bacteria that normally is too weak to even bother humans to multiply, fun!). I had horrible sinus and tooth pain and congestion for the week, but it has cleared up with two days in the warm great indoors. We will see if it stays that way.

I am really having a problem with food. I have an odd schedule where I am completely tied up from 11 to 2 most days and I just haven't found a way to get lunch in. Anything I eat would have to be before or after that time and be cold and packed or from a local coffee shop or restaurant because I don't have access to a microwave. I can be starving but don't have much of an appetite because of nausea, especially for cold food that I have to take time to pre-prepare. Other than that I am eating at 8 a.m. when I take my medications (they have to be taken with food) and fighting nausea. I can't have any dairy or calcium when I take one of them, so I generally don't eat protein with breakfast because I can't stand in the morning to cook. Then I eat a large meal about 6 p.m. It isn't working at all.

I also had two doctor's appointments this past week. One was with a n.p. in women's health that I see because I deal with constant heavy breakthrough bleeding. We switched my prescription again, but she is at the point that she doesn't know what to do since there appears to be no treatable cause. I also had an appointment with my cardiologist. He put me on a new medication to raise my blood pressure, but I have to closely monitor my blood pressure as I introduce it and either my b.p. is fluctuating wildly or my cuff is broken. I have had to stop taking it until I can check my cuff against a reliable one. He is also doing a basic blood panel because of the exhaustion I have been having. On one hand I am glad he checks, but on the other hand it will come up all negative like all the rest. I guess it is easier to check for horses than it is to attempt to treat (or tell me I have to live with) Zebras.

I also had another big surprise. In the past 45 days or so I have gained 20 pounds. The nurse practitioner that deals with most of my care at my cardio's office is very concerned because after careful review of my activity levels and food intake we can't figure out a "normal" reason for the gain. Prior to this I had gained 6 pounds in August from a medication, but had otherwise remained the same weight within like 8 pounds for the past 5 years. I have been more active (swimming, walking, working out) and have been eating fewer calories (because of the nausea) but not enough to cause a dangerous or starvation deficit. I honestly don't know whether I need to hit the gym harder or if this is caused by something serious that needs to be treated, but either way I am not at the top end of the healthy range for my weight and as a heart patient I need to not gain anything else. I guess because I am tallish and gain weight fairly evenly I hadn't really noticed. I mean, I had a couple pairs of pants that got tighter, but apparently 20 pounds isn't even a full size for me. I did measure myself and I did gain 2 inches in the waist and one in the bust in January.

ARGH!

I was barely holding on this week. I did two cardio workouts at the gym - one a mere 30 mins, the other 45, and this weekend I did about 40 mins of running (and hated every second, sadly. Gah, this cold weather sucks!).

Thanks for holding me accountable, Medusa. I am gonna really try to do better this week!

Hmm, let's see.....
I am still struggling to get my Yoga in three times a week. It seems like lately there is always a doctor's appointment or a meeting that HAS to be at the same time as class. I tried to get to an Aqua class at the gym Sat to make up for my missed Yoga, but the lab took too long with my bloodwork.
Speaking of which- I am freaking out a bit because I went to the gyno on Friday and he said my uterus is enlarged and I am having an ultrasound done tomorrow morning to look at it. (Good thoughts please!)
But, cooking and eating has been going pretty well. It's starting to just be a habit. Even if I wait until the last minute, or I just want something easy, I have been able to make something good without thinking about it too much.
Oh- and I dropped some more weight Yay!

With the freezing temps I keep reading about that you girls are enduring, I'm mightily impressed that you guys do anything other than snuggle up attempting to stay warm!!

I had an up and down week with being sick last week, but am feeling much better now - just the last remnants of the cold to disappear.

BUT, I did start some mini runs on my treadmill on Friday, and I'm excited about my progress there I blogged about it here:
http://fitnessclothesspending......ck-in.html

I realised I wont get to the full 30 mins in 30 days though because each week for the next couple of weeks we have at least 2 busy days after school, so I wont have time - but still, 2 days per week as enforced rest days wont hurt overall I don't think... not that I really have a clue LOL

Not the best week for me (though certainly not bad). It was super cold here (at least by Tucson standards), so I ended up getting rides to and from campus on Wednesday and Thursday. Plus I babysat on Saturday, so I skipped my workout that morning so that I wouldn't be sore while carrying the 10 month old around. So not as much exercise as I would have liked, but this week should be better.

Sounds pretty hectic for you ): But good for you that you managed to keep healthy (: !

As for me, I successfully found a dieting plan that works for me--I spent the first half of the week trying out The Eat-Clean diet, which says you have to eat 5-6 small meals per day--it was way too time-consuming and stressful, so I tried out intermittent fasting, which is awesome. I lost... 3 pounds in the past few days and dropped two inches off my waistline and I save a lot of time to do my other chores. I managed to drink five to six cups of warm/hot green tea per day. I discovered that pilates and endurance cardio are perfect for getting leaner legs without adding muscle mass (:
No more resistance training !!

Started applying SPF not only when I go out, but also when I'm indoors on a cloudy day, as I heard the UV rays do the most damage when your guard is down on cloudy days at home.

I would consider this a good week, but next week will be even better because I seem to have most of my workout and dieting notes and plans together, finally !

Hmm, about the same as you, Medusa. I am injured so running is little if at all. But . . . I did get in a killer 35+ min lap swim that was non-stop inspired! My sides ached for days later lol. Still doing push ups every night - yay! The cooking is at about 50% which is okay. The wine still isn't great - I think the hiatus from running might be part of why. I also did some indoor bike workouts and yoga. I'm below goal weight for now, but it varies a pound or two every week. http://www.fitbit.com/user/229T63

It's been another week, time to check in! How did things go during the first week of February?

I had a pretty chaotic week with a job interview and travel plans that got disrupted because of the snow. I kept up reasonably well with exercise and managed to do crossfit twice and yoga twice. This weekend I didn't do much because I was pretty exhausted from the trip.

How about you?
