I was in Spain with friends. Too hot to do much walking. No airco in that old casica, so no sleep. Too much food and drink. Dusty dry countryside.
End result : got ill. I had to change my flight and went home. And I am still in bed. Lungproblems. It was fun while it lasted though.
Next week I hope to start running and push up training again.

I’m beginning this new school year with some solid workout plans. I really need to lose the weight that I have steadily put in since my knee surgery. Last week I was at a cottage and did a daily kayak! This week so far I’m in the pool but will begin on the bike again tomorrow. I’m am also thinking about a nutritionist.

I miss my old yoga teacher! He moved away a few years ago. His class was hard and it really built strength. He didn’t have us go crazy fast so we tripped over ourselves & felt like we were doing burpee asanas. He didn’t have us do crazy hard poses and claim they were all about balance. We did “normal” stuff—Warriors, Tree Pose, Chair, etc, and we held them for-flippin-ever! I felt so good when I was doing his classes! Trying to recreate them on my own is not working. Can anyone recommend good follow-along yoga videos for me?

Janet, get in the pool! Swimming in an unheated pool after work every day and a cold shower afterwards was how I got through a summer in Austin with no AC. It seriously lowers your core temperature.

I seriously need some fall weather, but none in sight. This week looks like high “real feel” temps will hit 100 every day. Still, I’ve managed to get in an hour of outdoor exercise almost every day since we got home from London a week ago. The only day I didn’t do that, I got to a good, strenuous vinyasa yoga class. Yesterday was ridiculous — I decided to walk in the woods behind our house on the community path (unpaved, just dirt), and apparently no one in the neighborhood has been using it much because I managed to walk into about a hundred spider webs. Trust me, the combination of humidity and spider webs made for about the least refreshing walk I’ve ever taken. Basically a slog, but I got a good 45 minutes of exercise out of it.

Vacation was amazing but not good for the eating habits. Ever since we returned, I’ve resumed logging my meals with My Fitness Pal and have been very vigilant about hitting my activity goals (Fitbit totals have been over 10k every day). Cutting way back on alcohol after vacation — i had my first drink since vacation (a beer) last night. I’m also cutting back on sweets, but no one is going to deny me ice cream once a week! Especially when the weather is this hot and cruddy. I went into downtown Annapolis to get my walking in on Sunday and ended up watching the funeral procession for John McCain coming into the Naval Academy, and after I did that and logged my walking miles, I dragged my sweaty self into the best ice cream place in town and got a small scoop. Otherwise, I’ve been keeping to my moderate eating goals pretty well this week. Nothing drastic, just logging what I eat, which generally makes me pay more attention. I find that simply being more mindful helps me cut back.

Our pool pump stopped working while we were away, which also means the heater isn’t working, so I haven’t been swimming, but the temps have not been cooling off at night (in the mid-high 70s) so the water may not be too cool (I am a wuss about cold water). Today’s going to be another nasty hot and humid one, so I may switch it up and jump in the pool for a half hour of laps this morning.

I went swimming on Saturday. I was quite lazy about it and only did about 10 laps of breast stroke. Dove off the spring diving board the rest of the time with my son.

I am the organizer for my workplace’s volleyball team so I’ve been doing beach volleyball once a week all summer.

Also soccer off and on—maybe once every other week. I’m not sure soccer is a good idea. I seem to hurt myself a lot playing this sport.

Also my Orange Theory fitness (heart-rate monitored row/jog/weights) is progressing slowly but steadily.
I started as a power walker but have progressed to a higher level. My base pace (easy) is 5.3 mph, and my push pace is 6.5. All out is 7.5. I’m happy with these results and continue to try to improve my cardio (which is the hardest thing for me—I am not good at anything involving cardio). I confess I only go once a week over the summer but will bump it up to twice a week in the winter.

I have not worked out all month, and I feel it! Besides that uncomfortable chub feeling, my lower back is weak and sore, so my tummy has been hurting for a couple days. I had thought all the walking here would allow me slack off, but that’s clearly not the case. Thanks for the nudge to get back to it!

Heat is back in southeastern pa (we only had a very short reprieve). Not much has changed except that I started "box jumping". Very intimidating at first, but got the hang of it. Started out jumping on 2 - 10 lb plates and stepping off, then added an additional plate (3 total) and stepping/jumping off, and final set I did on the box, first stepping off, then finally jumping off. My trainer was right, it is a "mental thing".

Doing hanging leg pulls up with 5 lbs on each ankle, since I have mastered doing them without any weights. It was tough, but I was able to do them controlled and hold for 5 secs between reps.

Working a great deal on core strength and side planks are getting better (still doing with bent knee, but able to hold for 1 minute on each side).

Heats Been oppressive here but DH and I just do our walk at dawn and bring water. Still get tai chi in during early morning too.
Good news to hear you are continuing your workouts. You are definitely more ambitious than I

The temperature broke last night after a week of heat and humidity. It finally feels like August, even though it’s September.

I missed a few workouts this week because of appointments and the holiday weekend, but I’m slowly regaining strength. Workouts are still 20-30min max, because of LO.

175lb squat feels more steady; rows, pull-downs, and leg presses feel normal; bench is still a work in progress; and deadlifts are challenging as far as breathing, bracing, and lifting my pelvic floor were concerned.

How was your week?
