Wow, under 25mins is awesome, Anne! Even though I've tried, I've never been able to do that.

Smittie, my 5km PB at parkrun is 25:42 (but I've only gone under 26 mins 3 times) but on the treadmill I did 24:11.
The treadmill is easier, especially since I didn't have it on an incline, and of course no one to overtake etc. But the results encourages me to think I should be able to get under 25, which I've been working towards for years, at least if I have someone alongside, like I did the at the gym.

What is your record, Anne? Of course you can do a 5km if you can do it on the treadmill!

I did a “moonlit yoga” session outdoors today. First yoga session in over a year. I miss yoga and think I should get back into it. Very relaxing. I like yoga best as a meditative practice rather than a form of exercise.

I did some badminton and soccer last week and a fairly easy high intensity interval training (HIIT) session.

There are a lot of people around me who love sports and fitness, so it’s easy for me to get out there and do stuff. I’m really lucky.

Thanks Lisa. I had one of the gym employees (no-one had turned up at her class) cheering me on and it made all the difference.
I still have the July and June winter weight to take off.

I agree with you on sleep but find it hard in a household full of people who go to bed late and with evening activities. Was just so pleased I was actually able to sleep in as usually I wake by about 7:15 on weekends.

How are your weights going Lisa?

I am happy to report

I beat my own record at the gym for 5km on the treadmill (it's the record at the gym too, but none except me bothers to try for it) and this has given me confidence that a long term 5km goal in an actual run is achievable, at least if I can get some encouragement from someone who'll run alongside me)

Seeing a little weight loss progress, and going back to my July weight after a high in August (I'm talking winter weight gain here). I started cycling to work again, and did it twice in the week, and I attribute it to that - 30km extra a day has to have an effect!

I skipped the Sat run yesterday and had 9+ hours sleep. LOVE that, because I felt I was not getting enough all week

Still also running 3 runs a week and 2 strength sessions at the gym. These latter are short, because they have to fit in my lunch break, which is always a bit frustrating, but better than nothing.

I am thrilled to report I've walked a total of 59.5 miles since 8/27, which was 4 days after back surgery. It had been at least 10 months since I had walked for exercise due to pain. The downside is that on the days I don't walk 3.5-5.6 miles for exercise, I don't even walk a mile, since I work from home most days. I need to at least get out and around the block for a 10 minute break on those days, so that's my goal. I am quite tickled with my progress! Expect to be released from this brace on 10/2, and sent to PT. Hoping I can get back to yoga in Oct. as well.

I have been averaging 4 Yoga classes a week and about an hour walking a day. Some days I walk more and some days less. There have been days when the heat makes it difficult to walk until the evening.
I would like to increase my walking when it cools down. This week is looking better.

Just recently I’ve found my life long habit of needlessly weighing myself a couple of times a day sometimes more is falling away - not intentionally but because I’m increasing in my body confidence. I am pleased as I am becoming more appropriately balanced in my thinking about my weight. I will continue to weigh myself daily I am sure but I’m moving away from my emotional baggage that comes with it.

Lots of appointments this week, but I made it to the gym on Monday and am going tomorrow and Friday. My trainer ordered a cooling vest (he said for me, but I think I am the tester before he lets anyone else use it). I normally don't have a problem when working out, but we have had an extremely hot and humid summer and when you have a full gym, you cannot cool it down enough.

I have been working extra hard on core strength and am amazed on how great my balance is now as compared to earlier in the summer.

Doing my strength training sessions twice a week and I've been able to increase the weights. My arms are still my weakest part, but they're getting better.

Wanting to be more mindful of what's going in my mouth, I've adopted the French approach, i.e., "paying attention" as opposed to dieting. The word "dieting" has such negative connotations for me -- feeling hangry, deprived, etc., that I thought I'd try a different approach, and I've lost 3 pounds without really trying. It has made me realize how often I eat mindlessly. So, I'm just living my life, and paying attention now!

Now that summer will be winding down and the temps are finally starting to drop, I've decided to train for a 15K coming up in December. I did not run all summer due to the ridiculous heat and humidity, and there something awful about running a long distance on a treadmill.

Anyway, I have to take control of my weight gain by increasing exercise, weight training twice a week, cutting down the wine intake, and healthier eating. This is the start of week 1 and so far so good.

Schedule is:
T, Th, Sat - running (long run on Saturday)
M, W - upper body strength training
Fri and Sun - rest day

The past two weeks have been a bit chaotic, as expected, and will continue to be so until the end of the month. It has made working out a bit challenging, and I'm no longer able to continue the routine that I had started a few weeks ago. Since my gym frequency has decreased for the time being, I've added an exercise or set to the workout, and am more mindful of using challenging weights. Squats are in the 175-195lb range, bench singles are at 115lb, dumbbell rows at 55lb, leg presses at 180lb.

How was your week?
