Sounds like a few of us have had good weeks and a few have had challenges!

I had a great week for exercise last week but then was shattered Monday and Tuesday and had two days off. In seven days two runs, two long walks, one yoga session and three circuits/weights.

I have had a couple of parties on where I have had alcoholic drinks. Which I have enjoyed. But I have also said no to a sneaky glass of wine at home with Jon a couple of times.

Eating has been steady and I tried on some old dresses that fitted me nicely. However since I have been doing weights my back and shoulders are broader. And I do find it hard to lose middle fat....

Despite good intentions, I'm gaining weight around the middle. Reading through Anna's post reminded me that we don't have as much control as the media would have us believe. Since I found out I've lost more height due to spine shrinkage, but weigh the same, so that extra weight has to find a place between the bottom rib and top of hip bone.

I did some Googling on whether or not you should change your ideal weight once you've lost a couple of inches in height. After reading a number of articles, the answer is: Nobody knows.

I have balance problems from time to time, and even though I resolve to go back to the exercises I learned a while back, I get busy and forget. I work to keep muscles strong so that joints are protected, but that doesn't seem to be quite enough.

Next week I will have house guests and we will eat out a lot. This will be a challenge as well. So, improve balance and maintain weight for the next couple of weeks and I will come out ahead.

Well, as I ate late last night and scolded myself, I realized that at least the quantity was far less than before, and the calorie intake was less also. And more days than not I ended by 9. So, not as good as it was, but better than before.

Not as successful at going to bed by midnight. Need to get back on track. It takes commitment, and ignoring tv, YLF and Facebook. It will be easier now that the Olympics are over.

Was on vacation, so swam in lakes twice. I was surprised at the difference swimming against a tide makes; both while swimming and the next day I could feel muscles I don't usually feel. I didn't realize lakes had tides.

I had a touch of altitude problems and so did my DH, so I couldn't do the walks/hikes we had planned.

Goals-swim or walk 5 times, bed by 11:30 unless out of the house (should help to not start watching the 11:35 late night shows), eat enough so I'm not hungry between 9 and bedtime, stop eating by 9 - exceptions maybe if out of the house.

Weigh myself once.

I really admire women who can do strenuous exercises. I'm here cheering you on!

To relieve chronic pain, I'm back to aerobics and doing a lot more housework to stay active. I have a very large house, so there's always something to clean or declutter.

At work, where I have to sit for 40 hours/week, I have requested a sit-and-stand desk so that I can stand for part of the day to relieve the stress that sitting puts on my body. I have a set of resistance bands, and have resumed doing the exercises taught to me by the physical therapist. The main thing that relieves my pain is not sitting, so I am looking for ways to get up and get moving.

Lastly, I am cutting calories and making a serious attempt to lose 15 lbs.

I went to the physio, and have some exercises (of course), and was cleared to resume some jogging. I'm really pleased as I had stopped altogether. Being able to walk/jog within limits means I can start to get some fitness back.
I'm impressed and inspired by the strong women here!

@Lisa, yes, form is key! If you have a scoliosis, bend over and let your arms relax. If your fingertips are even, great; if one arm hangs lower than another, however, you might want to see a PT to teach you how to lift in a balanced away (I'll happily share the exercises once I get an assessment). It was only *after* my injury that my imbalance appeared to become an issue, when I've otherwise had good form lifting into the 280lb range, and despite doing isolation exercises to ensure proper muscle balance. I also lift my heaviest weights with a sumo stance, to minimize the risk of injury on my lower back.

It sounds like what you're doing is working for you, though.

I'm FINALLY able to walk 20 times around the track after not being able to do so for two months due to injury. I never thought it would take this long to get back up to speed. I figure that it will take another month or two to drop the extra weight/fluff I picked up when I wasn't walking.

I need to get back to the weights, too. I overdid it on one arm, and I think healing was prolonged since I use those muscles to lift up a bucket to flush our toilet. (Big song and dance we do to recycle laundry rinse water due to the drought. I have a high water use washer [SpeedQueen washers rock!!!] and toilet and am not willing to part with either so this is my solution.)

Lisa - good reminder about deadlifts. They often seem too easy - and it's all about timing and form, which I need to remember.

4 weight workouts and 3 hours of cardio last week for me. Alcohol free (loving kombucha as a good sub) and even made it through a weekend evening backyard barbecue party eating only veggies and protein , and a half glass of kombucha in a wine glass. Feeling pretty pleased with myself (funny how obnoxious other people are when you're the only one not drinking )

My trainer made me spend something like half an hour today just working on form for deadlifts. As I have now understood it, the key is to do the entire lift up from the bottom with your spine in a nice, straight position that does not deviate or wobble at all as you go up. (I also have scoliosis.)

My eating hasn't been great, but at least now we're done with our main birthday season. We've been doing way too many ice cream parties lately.

My workouts have been inconsistent, so this week's goal is to workout first thing before life gets in my way. So far, so good.

Scheduled for 8 miles on Saturday with the group, only did 7, sigh. Was experimenting with food during training in prep for the half, and what I tried did not work for me at all. At least it settled down once I slowed down, and I didn't have a bathroom-related incident. Otherwise things have been pretty good, food on track and other workouts OK.

The perks of temporarily relocating to suburbia: long roads with minimal traffic lights, perfect for cycling. I've really enjoyed hauling my bike out and using it as my main form transportation during daylight hours these past few weeks.

This past week, I worked out three times, and finished off a high-intensity, high-volume three-week squat program by doing 3 sets of 10 reps @ 130lb for front squats. Prior to that, I had only ever squatted a 130lb double. I followed that with some paused deadlifts, which was a mistake, because I ended up (re)pulling something in my lower back.

The program was fun, but brutal. I now need to create a program that allows me to maintain strength but is safe for my back. Friday's aggravation of my injury made me realize that the it's likely scoliosis related, so the next step is to find a capable physical therapist after the move.

How was your week?
