I am on the 14th day of the plank challenge. (Actually, day 13 according to the official schedule as I repeated day 12.). It's definitely working - I did 90 sec yesterday and just a few days ago I was struggling with 60. It's HARD though. I also need to work on my form. I don't have a low enough mirror to see myself when I'm planking so I only have J's opinion on my form if he happens to be around, lol.

In other exercise, I got my 3 elliptical sessions in which was good, plus a few arm reps with 5 lb weights. Tendinitis in my left elbow has been acting up a bit so I have to be careful w/the weights. (The planks don't seem to bother it.). I do know that building up arm strength helps with not re-aggravating the tendinitis though.

Food was a mixed bag. Was out of town for weekend so had a couple of rich meals and also more meat than I normally eat (which is not a bad thing necessarily but I'm not used to it.). I also couldn't resist the chips and dip, lol. I am trying to be more cognizant of portion sizes and stuff like that. But overall, not too bad.

Just a quick check in to keep me accountable. Got in my minimum cardio last week. Hope to do the same this week. We've had spare the air days due to the fires in CA and the heat so I may not make my goal but I will certainly try. Hope to get my schedule under control by next week--and maybe be blessed with some cooler weather.

Good week overall--finally dropped a couple of pounds and am just a bit away from my weight goal--what I weighed last year at this time. Continue with a more intense exercise routine and am getting stronger. I'm wearing pants that have been hanging in my closet all summer because they were too tight in the waist.

I googled how to get rid of the Menopot. (If you don't know what that is, don't worry yet. I first ran across this term from Kim Johnson Gross's book book. What to Wear for the Rest of Your Life.) It's a battle: eat carefully, avoid sugar and white carbs, exercise, get enough sleep, and avoid stress or learn how to deal with it. Wait--that sounds like good advice for good health overall.

Nothing like wanting to look good in wedding photos for inspiration.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier that my MD upped my dose of thyroid after my last visit. I had been in a high TSH zone for a year or more, and she said her patients generally felt better if their blood tests showed them with lower TSH. I've been on the higher dose for 3 weeks now and I do think it is making a difference--subtle but real. I hope it helps my fingernails as well.

You guys are inspiring me big-time! I'm going to increase my treadmill visits this week, and stay off the chocolate. I just heard on the news that playing Tetris for 3-4 minutes will quell cravings. Something about the visual stimulation. I am going to try that for sure! Have a healthy week, ladies.

Sounds like lots of good things happening here on the forum.

The week was pretty good exercise wise, three gym sessions, one short run, two brisk walks and a stair session. Eating was okay but skipped dinner one night and ate chips and chocolate. Not to be recommended.

Going to have a wine free week this week in preparation for my mud-run/Tough Girl challenge next weekend. It is a 6km obstacle course through mud etc.. It will be fun!

I am doing Yoga and walking up and down the steps in front of our house. I am up to 4 times doing the stairs.
I went to the Physiotherapist last Thursday and I was very impressed. After a thorough examination with my DH observing and taking notes (my friend recommended this) she diagnosed my sore left buttock as a knot in a muscle. Thank goodness it is not a torn hamstring or sciatica. I have some exercises to do and stretches. I can do Yoga but should be careful not to overdo it. And I have to go for massage therapy 2 or 3 times per week for the next 2 weeks. Poor me. It feels better already.
I was so happy about this. I thought I was going to have to take time off for something to recover.

I continued with the 30-day plank challenge Diana introduced us to last week.

I'm continuing with the green/berry/protein smoothie habit most days. I added chia seeds a couple of days ago for an extra boost.

I've continued a 12-hour fast every 24 hours.

I still had some sugary treats and a few fried foods is week but tried to keep it in moderation.

Cheryle and Carter, I'm impressed with your step counts. I find it difficult to reach 10,000 but that may change when the school year starts. I'm playing 9 holes of golf tomorrow on an short course. I'll log my steps.

I had a good week - 3 treadmill runs, one spin class, fairly healthy eating and some reductions on the scales but have fallen in a heap.

Yesterday started well energy wise, but then I zonked out, and woke up today exhausted. I am usually pretty active in the mornings, but instead spent a few hours on the couch. DH took the girls to morning church, and I am saving my energy to make it through to music practice and evening church tonight. I am fairly sure I am fighting off some germs, as I have that tell tale glandy/sensitive at back sides of the tongue feeling. Eating lots of bad stuff - seem to crave sugar at these points.

I have managed to do the dishes I left last night, and bring in the washing, but I think I'll go back to bed now for an hour or so.

Carla, that's brilliant! I never would have thought of the Y, even though I was a member for years when the kids were little. I don't live very close to it anymore, but the schedule looks great. I'm looking for classes during the workday, and the two little yoga/pilates studios near me have classes either before the sun comes up or during dinner. I'll head over there this week to check it out!

Shedev, the best exercise is playing a game.

Carter, I find when I am on my long winter vacation, I average about 25K steps per day and often break 30K. I would never have thought it would have such an impact but it really does.

Carla, sorry to hear about the dental issues. I am quite interested in how you have improved your sleep. I have been up at 3 or 4:00 daily for quite a while now and am getting a bit cranky.

I am past the 60 day mark for the whole 30/60/90. I have lost 5-6 pounds but feel much better. It isn't hard to continue and I adjusted to the need for planning a long time ago. I may stay on it until January when I go to Mexico.

Most of my exercise lately has been golfing and walking. We played 9 in the morning on Sunday and 18 in the afternoon. We did another 18 on Tuesday and Thursday and walked on Wednesday for 5.5 miles. I had a lazy day yesterday but still had over 60K steps for the weekdays. I am in a weekend challenge and should have over 30K for Saturday and Sunday since we are golfing in the morning and the course is about 14K steps.

Very poor week - 2 runs! Dental work had me physically low and my gifted yogi is on vacay. Food was good - though a bit of a challenge since our freezer died and the fridge wasn't doing well - had to be creative with meals to work with the thawing food to minimize losses from spoilage! (New fridge and stove delivered this morning - Yay!). Good sleep hygiene though, and less nocturnal waking.

Carter, I'm a new convert to yoga. I'm doing a Hatha-Ashtanga class (90 min) that I just love. Have a very gentle yogi (male!) and a male centric class (go figure!) but there is a lot of focus on developing your own 'practice'. Half the class is 50+. It is actually through the Y - which offers all kinds of classes from kettle bells to water arobics, including Pilates and barre, spinning, you name it! The membership includes access to all classes as well as the pool, the training room, the gym, the steam room, the therapeutic pool, etc.-better value than any fitness club I ever belonged to.

Shedev, I love that so much of your exercise came from play this week!

My goals for every week in August are 70,000 steps and 420 active minutes. Now that I'm not working, these are proving to be too low, but for now, I'll keep them where they are to allow an off day here and there. This week, I'm just over 98,000 steps and 648 minutes of "active time" according to fitbit.

Does anyone do pilates? I need something for toning that is easy on the joints. I went to see the new Pure Barre studio down the street. The kid at the front desk basically told me that because I have a fused joint in one of my toes, I should find something else to do. Okie dokie. Thoughts?

Good week for food and exercise. Had a lot of play exercise. We took one of the disabled young men I take care of to play basketball and did some drills with him. The other staff member is a baseball teacher and coach for youth teams in his other job.

Diana, thank you for posting the plank challenge. I am starting today.
