Still early days with LO - and very impressive what you have done with walks and weights, even if not up to pre-birth amounts.

Runcarla - you do a lot of exercise for someone not on a
"tight routine".

Sorry to hear about all the heat and humidity. Here it is winter and has been very rainy. I had a lot of motivation recently and missed several days of running partly because of hurting myself a bit, not warming up on a cold morning. I've mostly been making it to the gym twice a week and have a new program - the first "leg" day took me 5 days to recover from!

Weight is horrible. Up high and totally because of over eating. No self control.

All thoughts of continuing a tight routine flew out the window after I retired. Although I am glad I don't have to push workouts to late pm, fitting them into a daytime routine took some time. July I settled into a regular pattern - swimming 2000m M, W, F at noon and weight training T, Th, Su - 10am - noon. Thursday's I walk to the library with DH, and afterwards we take an indirect route home - covering about 10km total of hilly urban terrain! I'm rehabing a right sided glute muscle imbalance, so not running, but doing a physio routine on non-weight training days. Last summer I dropped some weight while training for a triathlon. I have not gained the weight back.

DH has dropped 10lbs+ over 4 months and is just under 200lbs (6 ft. 3in). He golfs 3-4 days a week and is on the driving range on non-game days. He walks the course pushing his bags. He is not dieting, but doesn't reach for carbs in the pm like he used to. He thinks the lack of stress is a factor in his weight loss.

Thanks for keeping this thread going, GF!

Hot, hot summer here in Wpg. I'm losing my mind. The gym where I live (or so it seems) is frigid , and the trainers and fitness staff are bundled up like it's the middle of winter. Up front, where I am, it's still pretty chilly and I'm all about layers. I'm new to heavy lifting and am really, really liking it. I don't work out at all as much as I should or would like to, but when I do, I'm doing deadlifts, Romanian lifts, squats, curls, and a few ab exercises. Kettlebells, and some bands too.

The heat and humidity are very oppressive. I try to walk early in the morning or late in the day. I am also going to Yoga in a/c. There is a Hot Yoga studio in town that is packed (I don't go).

LO must be growing and getting time away would be difficult. As you said the gym is not going anywhere.

I am not complaining but the 90+ high humidity weather can be a drain - our home does NOT have AC but we can usually get a nice breeze coming in our windows- until the summer showers hit and windows have to get closed...uuggghhh.
DH and I start our 2-3 mile daily walk very early in am 6:30-7 and we take containers of water.
Been trying to cut back on snacking which is easier now that summer peach season is here and things are being harvested from our small organic garden- yay. As a result I am slowly losing those pounds I gained over the last 2 years while inactive from 2 cardiac surgeries, a broken foot.
Wow on the weights- my water containers are the limit of weight lifting though we do use bands. Easier on our older joints and doctor recommended for me.
Keep these health posts going- I need the motivation.

The heat really hit me at the gym last Thursday. My trainer made me put an ice pack under my shirt and then gave me arm exercises to do while lying on my back. The ice pack helped immensely and I felt good enough to continue with my workout.

Otherwise, I have been working out at the gym 4 days per week - 2 with trainer and 2 on my own concentrating on lower half.

Good luck to you and LO - who am I am sure is getting bigger every day!

NOT holding up well at all. The heat/humidity is oppressive. The gym "air conditions," but not as much as I would prefer. I am doing about one-half of my work out and calling it good.

We have tried mall walking. The idea is good, but the walk is never as intense as it is on natural trails/hikes.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

This is the point in the summer where I miss malls and the air-conditioned open haven they offer for casual walkers. How is everybody holding up in the summer heat and humidity? (Those down under: your winters still qualify as summers for us northerners.)

This past week, I had one 4 mile walk, and a few between 2-4miles. It’s supposed to be the best exercise for recovery now, but the heat is oppressive and I need to stay close to
home in case LO becomes dehydrated.

I was able to make it to the gym for the first time since having LO and it was truly a humbling experience. I did a bit of everything in the little time I had, and probably won’t be back until I get assurance that my pelvic floor is in good shape. I was surprised by how difficult squats felt—205lb days before childbirth was much less challenging than doing sets of 135lb five weeks later. Two days later, I am still sore. Ah well,
the gym isn’t going anywhere.

I did a couple of sets of Romanian deadlifts at 135lb, bench press (first time since stopping in December) up to 85lb, dumbell overhead press of 20lb, and some lat and rope pull-downs.
