Ms. Mary, your comment brings to mind these fine words from the mouth of Karl Lagerfeld:

"Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants."

and

"Dieting is the only game where you win when you lose."

Thanks for bringing this back. The last few weeks, months, have been difficult for me. I've finally reversed the weigh gain trend, but have a lot more to do.

This is a tough time of year for me as for many of you. The shortest days, the darkest time, cold weather and general dreariness. The temptation is to give up and say, What does it matter anyway? Well, it does matter. My pants are too tight, I've lost my motivation to put on make up and go out and face the world.

Thank you, thank you.

Good job everyone! Yesterday I worked out for the first time in about 3 weeks. Have been battling a nasty cold, so I'm happy to feel well enough to excercise again.

I've been meaning to share my favorite low-carb cookie recipe. These are so easy and require very few ingredients. They taste great, but be warned they are a bit crumbly straight out of the oven. From the Wild Diet cookbook. Looks like I cut off the title-they are peanut butter with chocolate chips.

Between ++stress at work (implementing a new tech system over Nov/Dec), undergoing a bunch of tests due to a diagnosis of an auto-immune problem, plantar fasciitis affecting my right foot, and the cold and dark of midwinter, I am combatting a case of the dismals. However, I have been dragging myself to the gym, and somehow managing some good results.

These past 2 weeks all my upper body weights went up. Biking is coming along, and my swim times are dropping. l'm taking a break from running until the PF gets better, hoping the swimming and biking will be enough cardio.

Here's the link for that recipe. I changed up the sauce because I always change up my recipes. Make sure the oven is fully up to 425 F before starting. You want the coating to get crisp.

http://www.veganricha.com/2016.....lower.html

My sauce was:
Tamari (soy sauce replacement)
Maple Syrup about 1 TBS
Chile Sauce about 2 tsp.
Toasted Sesame Oil (just a little, maybe 1/4 tsp.)
Chopped cashews 1/4 cup
Minced green onion about 2 TBS

Thanks for starting this post... terrific timing! Still recovering from a back, hip and knee injury so have to take the exercise part slow. No snow on sidewalks yet, so my main activity is walking. I am trying to restructure my week so that I can get to gym more often and workout/walk in warm water pool. Desperately need to build more core strength to protect my back. My main dietary changes have been to reduce carbs and add more fish and good quality fiber -- beans, beans, beans!

Texstyle -- Would LOVE your recipe for Kung Pao Cauliflower. Sounds delish!

grandfashionista - glad you started up this post! I can't imagine how much more challenging it must be to have extremely cold weather while trying to stick to an exercise routine. If I can't get outdoors, it's tough to stay motivated.

I've been slowly migrating back to a mostly vegetarian diet just because I prefer it. I have to really watch my iron level but otherwise I feel better eating this way and LOVE to cook this way. Last night I made Kung Pao Cauliflower and wow was it delicious! I baked it in the oven instead of frying so the amount of oil was very low. Cornstarch and Panko give it the crunch. It was SO good.

The weather has been mostly still mild enough to go on regular hikes but I need to get back to my weights as well. And I know I'm not stretching enough.

Walking 3x a day at work and theses steps everytime I go to the bathroom. When the snow starts I have 6 flights of stairs in my building at work I plan on walking. I go swimming at the local gym on saturday morning.

Because of the baby I'm also eating more healthy. I cannot make it to the gym on the weekdays so I try to incorporate it add during the regular day.

Being on the other side of the world, I've been benefiting from spring enthusiasm. So I'm no help for the rest of you I'm afraid

I tried a few dietary changes for the month of November, and ended up losing 3/4 kgs. Not sure how long that will stay off with Christmas and nearly 3 weeks off work coming up! Mostly I felt better for the changes, and am working out which ones I want to incorporate into my life subsequently.

I have managed to increase my arm weights a little and have been keeping up with one arm and one leg weights workout, one parkrun(5km) and one longer run and sometimes a further cardio workout, plus cycling to work a couple of times a week, which I love, though I don't push it too hard.

If my physio gives the OK I'm doing a 10km fun run this weekend, and in a rare 5km without a DD to come with me, last weekend did 5km in pretty much the same sort of time I was doing before the knee problem that sidelined me for a lot of the year.

It is wonderful pleasant summer now in Australa, with highs around the mid-20s but we have had a few very hot days and more are coming. Exercise is very hard in that climate - unless you do it very early in the morning or have access to an A/C environment (which I do at my work gym, but not at home) it tends not to happen at all!

It's winter for many of us.
It's dark.
And cold.
And because it's so tempting to stay curled under the covers,
we should share our healthy habits and seek inspiration from each other.

Due to extensive commuting, I've had trouble keeping to a regular exercise and eating schedule. Yesterday, however, I made it to the gym and benched 10 sets of 3 @110lbs, squatted 6 sets of 2 @175lbs, and watched 30min of TV on the stairclimber. Numbers are much lower than anticipated (slow recovery), so there's still a little while to go before I consider signing up for a competition.

In terms of food, I've lowered my carbs a bit, and have enjoyed concocting low carb recipes (brownies, cupcakes, scones). When I'm alone, baking is cathartic.
