Oh no, Brenda, hope you feel better soon. Sprains are so annoying to recover from. Carla, congrats on the tri!

My training group did 11 miles this morning, although I think it was closer to 11.5-12 as the path had been repaved and our mile markers were gone. I'm feeling pretty good if ravenous right now; I'll probably be sore tomorrow though since I really tried to push the pace compared to earlier weeks.

My eating hasn't been great, but my workouts were doing pretty well until I sprained my ankle at the beginning of this week. Sigh. It is improving quickly but will take a few weeks to get back to normal.

With two super thin, super sporty 20 something sons in residence at the moment, my grocery bills are super scary and meals are tricky. I'm pretty active, and DH is no slouch, but the battle of the bulge is fought more at the dinner table than the gym!

I had this week off work, so regular workouts were no problem. Out of doors runs and bike rides were tough due to heat and humidity. Here we are in September, with health warnings due to high temperatures!

Had a massage and chiro treatment to deal with a right hip problem caused by some muscle imbalance. Sally, I agree with regularly scheduled 'body work' to keep injuries at bay. I have been lucky with my chiro/physiotherapist. He specializes in sports folk and just came back from Rio, where he was part of a para-medical team working with the Canadian athletes!

Gastro was good and I showed restraint after making home-made granola bars - which I LOVE, but which are a trigger for upset.

That is exciting Style Fan - I love family weddings! it is more simple for men to get ready in a rush...

Janet - I hear you! I suspect the weight gain is minimal because I can't see it at all but I know the feeling. It sounds like fall/winter might be an easier time to exercise for you (for me winter is the hardest).

Well done Lisa and thanks for popping in...it is good you are all supporting each other with your goals. I get a massage about every six weeks which seems to help with niggling injuries which are so common, especially when you try to ramp up activity.

Ms Maven - even when I indulge, I tend to lose weight when away. I think it is the walking, and the lack of an available fridge Rats in the attic does not sound much fun I have to say.

With out-of-town short notice house guests, last week was eating and drinking and eating more stuff. We even went to Ghirardelli Square and had hot fudge sundaes. (Not nearly as good as I remember them from the days we took the kids there.) Not much chance to get exercising in either. Good news is that despite it all, I didn't gain weight. No idea how that happened, except I wasn't home to snack that much.

Now back to real life except we have rats in our attic, the wifi and our alarm system aren't working, and I'm still not back to normal. I think one more day of goofiness and I will be back on track.

Everyone in my house (including DD's boyfriend who doesn't' technically live here but may as well) is on some kind of bootcamp/training/diet/ program. It's getting a little crazy. My husband is going along for the ride and eating whatever is available - threatening to find a diet of his own to throw into the mix DD and boyfriend are following a Paleo diet and are in some kind of "pushups to pinups " ( I object to that program name, but sadly no-one asked me for my opinion on that one -ha ) program with his training gym, and I'm almost finished week 4 of the one I am participating in. Lots of healthy eating going on in our house, and lots of physical activity. No-one is free of injury though ,which seems to go hand in hand with strenuous working out - but we're pushing through. I am really craving a hot yoga session right now - really craving it. Drop in fees are nuts, but I'm going to treat my daughter and I to a class on Friday, if all goes according to plan.

Congrats to your son, Style Fan !

I've been very neglectful this summer. I've been eating whatever I please, and I've not been training for any athletic events so my workout routine has suffered. I've had other things going on and have just not made the time for the level of exercise I would need to burn off everything I've been eating. My weight has crept up over the last year, and I need to get control of it again. I don't even own a scale, but I can tell.

I started logging what I eat with My Fitness Pal again, and after I finish a pressing project that has occupied me for the last few days, I will be resuming a more regular workout routine. It's been extra tough because my husband has been at the ranch, and I've had four dogs (two of which are high-maintenance) and a household to take care of, in addition to trying to sell a former rental house. Fortunately, there is now a contract in the works on the house, so some of that is off of my plate for now too.

I'm looking forward to going back to the gym and taking another boxing class and yoga class -- both of those were really fun when I went a couple of months ago. And the weather should be cooling off a bit soon, so it will be easier to get in running and biking.

We have had a busy couple of weeks. Mr Style Fan Junior got married and this involved some travel. We had a wonderful time but I certainly went to less Yoga than usual. Of course Mr SF went everyday. He didn't have the same amount of preparation as I did though. For three days in a row I had to do my hair, make up and dress up. I was exhausted.
Now I am back to Yoga as much as possible. And trying to walk a bit more now that it has cooled down.

I think our food challenges have some similarities Anne. I can be restrained (today for example I have made good calls all day and we have brownie in the house), but I do have weak days. I hope you get well soon.

Laura - well done on the 10km. I walked a half in May and mostly enjoyed it - I was tired at the end. Make sure you have good socks! I am trying to up my protein and I do have some good healthy treats - I adore greek yoghurt with fruit, I have some nice herbal teas and coffee is a treat too.

Thanks Barbara- it sounds like you are making progress. I think the healthy choices do not always show on the scales, but you can be gaining muscle. I agree - if it was just Jon and myself I would take that approach too, but my sons are at a very hungry age!

Well done on the 10km Laura!
Sally, I empathize - we had takeaway for father's day, my daughter made pancakes, I made a cheesecake. I find it hard to even contemplating stopping my children cooking things.

My exercise has been down as I've been really busy. I think I only made it to the gym once and 2 walk/runs. On the upside I did a parkrun doing walk/ run and was pretty stoked to to the 5km in 30:44 even though I walked (as directed) 8 minutes of it.

I'm off work with a headcold (and sick daughter) today and hope I recover soon. We have a stepping challenge at work starting tomorrow.

Sally, I find that making sure I have protein with every meal, and enough fiber to make me full, helps reduce the cravings for sweets a lot. Also, and I'm sure people differ in this, I like having a reasonably healthy alternative around for some of the time, so you don't have to always white knuckle it - yogurt, sugar free pudding, tea with a sweet taste, those almonds with a cocoa coating...

I did my 10k yesterday - first official race ever. It went well; I finished within the time limit, feeling pretty decent, and I wasn't the absolute last person. I've got a month before the half marathon, so time to do a few more long walks before I taper.

Honestly, to my husband's chagrin, I can't have those kind of foods in the house if I want to lose weight. When I'm focused on losing weight we go out for an occasional dessert, but don't keep any in the house.

Good job, especially on the longer runs.

I swam at least twice, and walked once. I weighed myself for the first time in a month? 6 weeks? I was up one pound, which wasn't as good as I'd hoped or as bad as I'd feared. I don't seem to have that extra bit of commitment so I think I need to focus on adding a little more exercise each week. But when I start to get down on myself I remember that I am in much better shape than several years ago. I weighed myself because I committed to it here last week, so thanks for these weekly posts.

I have had a mostly good week although Fathers Day here derailed me with chocolate cake and caramel slice and takeaway dinner :)

I have been for two long runs (for me), I have been working hard at the gym three days a week, went on a fun bike ride and two walks.

Sugar has mostly been low with the exceptions above!!

My goals still are to keep my exercise high, improve my running and reduce my sugar. The sugar one is my constant challenge, the others I am doing well at.

I think part of my challenge is that I have an eleven year old who is very active and who loves baking brownies etc..He is a very healthy boy who does a lot of sport (we all do). Jon and the boys are all very trim and in great shape with little extra fat so I don't feel they need depriving (they eat mostly good food but some crisps/brownies etc). So I have these things lying around and while I am in "reasonable" shape I would like to lose some weight around my mid section. If they weren't in the house I would be fine but they are in the house so I need to be more strong minded. I also work from home.

Tips are welcome!!
