I've been walking/running every day for at least a half hour, until today (too rainy to bother). My eating has been pretty good until last night -- I had dinner with some girlfriends and had my first really indulgent meal in many weeks.

I've been tracking food and activity with Myfitnesspal and I think I've lost at least five pounds since August when I started. My husband looked at me this morning and said he can see that I've lost weight. I'm really glad because even though I don't own a scale, I could tell that I was eking back up to my maximum weight again, and I hadn't been there since I started running nearly five years ago.

I'm going to keep tracking even after I get to where my smaller clothes fit me again, because logging food and activity helps me eat more mindfully. I have some incentive to stay with this because hubs and I are going for a beach vacation in January and I want to feel more comfortable wearing a bikini -- I have not worn them (nor been on a beach vacation) since before I had my hysterectomy two years ago, the point when my weight started creeping slowly back up.

Mixed bag this week. I did OK on the exercise front but not so good with food. Plus both tonight and tomorrow night are going to be pretty indulgent, I think. Oh well, at least I did an extra workout yesterday to make up for it, right?

I use kefir to make smoothies (my regular greek yogurt makes them too thick to drink!) but have never gotten into drinking it plain. I think because it's too thick/heavy for me to consider a drink but not substantial enough to be a food substitute (like a smoothie). I do eat greek yogurt though.

I've been going to hula dancing classes which is great because it's a good workout and fun. I try to do les mills bodypump twice a week as well but I've missed it once this week. I used to lift, and followed the stronglifts program for a couple of years. I stopped because I got bored with it but I would like to start up again.

I used to drink kefir a lot--it must have been when I lived in SoCal. I don't see much around anymore, except the local natural foods market, which tempts me to try it again.

Pretty good week. I'm now entering the danger zone: Halloween, birthday, Thanksgiving and holidays. I won't be buying candy--I'll be gone for Halloween, but I'll be traveling and that means eating and drinking stuff I wouldn't eat at home, plus not much chance for exercise. I've done pretty well on the last few wedding trips, so I hope to have a good report for next week.

It was a good week from an exercise perspective: yoga, pilates, upper body strength, lower body strength and core/flex classes, plus a 4 mile walk. However, eating/drinking was not so controlled! We had houseguests, so food and wine were in abundance:-(.

I did do a full re-fresh on my gear capsule, so I can't wait to put on my new pretties for class each morning!

I sometimes feel like I repeat myself. A good week for exercise but two shocking eating days this week. I was very exhausted after four hard gym sessions last week, and one fast walk. I had two days off, then a walk, then another day off, then back to the gym this morning feeling more spritely. We did a lot of gardening and painting in the weekend so it was not lounging - as with Anne I find the balance hard at times between running around after two boys, home maintenance, community work - and needing some time for myself.

Eating was good last week but Monday and Tuesday were shocking with sausage rolls, biscuit slice and skipping lunch. Not ideal at all.

Laura, I work out on my own, but have drawn upon Starting Strength (Mark Rippetoe), Jim Wendler, Eric Cressey, and Israel Narvaez for guidance on lifts and programming.

I love the idea of Crossfit, but the snatch and clean/jerk are *highly* technical lifts--much more than the four main lifts in powerlifting--and CF instructors aren't generally trained in teaching or executing them properly. That, plus an emphasis on minimal time or maximal reps, makes injury inevitable for most CFers. Your prospective group sounds appealing, provided the instructor teaches the lifts properly and doesn't encourage students to do reps by the clock.

I tried Kefir after reading a post here about it--I think it was Betty Crocker's. We've tried several and like the Lifeway brand the best. Trader Joe's version is okay too. I've been mixing plain and the strawberry flavored one to make it a little more palatable--at least until I can get used to it. I kind of have to psych myself to drink it though--I keep telling myself it's good for me. DD's like the fruit-y ones and drink them no problem.

Exercise has taken a back seat to work. I've been getting two to three kettlebell work outs in but I haven't run since I threw my back out. I'm hoping to get back into that at some point. I fear my mile times are going to be back at square one. Oh well.

Everything else seems to be going all right. My weight is in the lower normal range--probably from all of the muscle mass I've lost from so much sitting at work. All in all, I can't complain. Hoping to get into a running schedule one of these days. Hope everyone else is well!

I've been drinking Yakult, which is supposed to have the same probiotic benefits as yogurt, etc. Since I can't really exercise until my stitches are out, I've been concentrating on keeping my eating as clean as possible.

Gradfashionista, are you working with a trainer or a group, or on your own? I used to lift years ago, and there's a group nearby that does training on the olympic lifts and crossfit-like interval stuff, but without the crazy crossfit group dynamics, and I've been thinking about trying them out if I can ever get all my doctors' visits and testing done with.

Yes to kefir, I used to make it! You can buy the grains online and it's much cheaper than buying the prepared versions in the store.

I've recently switched my macros to a ketogenic diet for the psychological benefits, and to see if it can offset the chronic fatigue or regulate my sleep. No changes so far after two weeks, but no harm done.

I had a good workout yesterday that uncharacteristically knocked me out as soon as I got home. A few sets of deficit sumo deadlifts (using smaller plates, which increase your range of motion for the lift) at 220b and 210lb left my core exhausted. My other lifts are weaker, perhaps as a result of change in diet, but perseverance is the key.

I haven't tried it - but I know lots on YLF have. Sorry to hear about all the candy temptation

My main news is all over at my thread on Skinny fat.

I have been REALLY enjoying finally again riding my bike to work.

I kept up my exercise plan but that is all about to change (see other thread)

One thing I really need to work out is having enough rest on the weekends. The balance between household tasks, fitness, spending time with kids, church, active but tiring things ( like baking) and lounging is a hard one to get right, I find.

Something happens this time of year, Halloween takes over and Hedev takes up all my time dragging me to the Halloween stores at least twice a week. Once we get home, he drags me outside to help put up our graveyard. I like our display, but he way overthinks it and takes away from the fun for me. Add in the candy and it was a terrible week for healthy living.

Has anyone tried Kefir? I'm giving it a go and so far I feel pretty good. I'm much less bloated.
