Back from London, scale horrifyingly scary. Gah. Anybody who tells you that the food in England isn't any good is way, way behind the times! Also: Martinis in the hotel bar. ;)

Anyway, I have sworn off alcohol for the rest of January, and am keeping track of food and exercise on myfitnesspal.com. My trainer is out of town this week but I did a boot camp class last night and will do another one tomorrow. I've committed to doing 72 boot camp classes this year in addition to my twice-weekly trainer sessions. That's just under 1.5 per week, but taking vacations and such into account I'm shooting for a minimum of two per week.

I really need to lose about 15 pounds to get back to my super happy weight, but I would be happy with a 10-pound loss. Hopefully cutting out the alcohol will give me a jump start!

Good news: We ate all the gifts of holiday candy and cake and drank the gift wine.

Bad news: both of us gained another couple of pounds on top of December gains.

Good news: no more new aches and pains.
Bad news: I've done little or no exercise in the last week.

Good news: I gave up wine and alcohol.
Bad news: it was for one day. Waiting until after dh's birthday to give up alcohol.

Good news: I feel better.
Bad news: I haven't done much exercise in the last two weeks. Maybe there is a correlation here?

Can I join the party?
Great job everyone!
I started going to the gym in December, after years. Then I decided that twice a week is not enough for my problem (sciatica), so I started doing stretches and yoga every day this week. I really hope I'll be able to keep on...
I also started doing exercises for my butt, hoping It helps too... I don't really want to lose weight, but need to strengthen my muscles, since I am not getting any younger...

This was a consistent week for me. I fit in 4 workouts (many weeks I only get around to 2 or 3). I am anticipating the week ahead because my gym is doing what they call "Peak Week." It's a quarterly thing where they set up challenges to gauge your progress. The challenges on the days I workout are the fastest 500 meter row, floor challenge (will probably involve crazy amounts of burpees and long planks), and fastest mile. I'd like to run a fast mile, but I've never really gone all out on a treadmill before. We'll see what happens.

GF: Great job, thats a wonderful accomplishment! You're making me what to make benching a priority again (I'm not patient enough to wait for a turn with the equipment).

Keryln: Your hash sounds really good! I might have to try it.

RunCarla: I'm going to keep your determination in mind when I want to slow down this week!

Congrats on your great work in the gym, GF! And thanks for doing this thread. I always get a lot of motivation from reading it. You and Runcarla will be my inspiration to hit the weights tomorrow. I got a couple good treadmill runs in last week (of course one of them was a shame run after an evening carb binge the night before!) But it was one of the best runs I've had in ages, so I'm just trying to look at the positives! Planning to cook up a "hash" for dinner with brussel sprouts, onion, bell peppers, roasted tomatoes, and some eggs on top.

Fatigue hit hard the second day after our return from New Year's travel and my gym partner caught a cold. I was thinking of dropping my weights (had just gone up to the 30lb Dumbbells (chest press, row, RDL's) last workout in December) but once I hit the gym, decided NOT to drop down. I had nothing left at the end of the workout, but that is the way it should be!

After reading last week's HH thread and the post about exerting past comfort, I was motivated NOT to drop down to 25lbs. Thanks GF for running this thread!

The first week of the year has been great as far as exercise is concerned.

I did my daily minimum bench and squat five days this week, missing one day because of travel.

Early in the week, I hit a PR bench press of 135lbs, and just yesterday, 140lbs! I'm very excited to have graduated to the largest plates after chasing this for so long. Daily max squats were 180lb-185lb.

Food habits have been pretty normal. I'm really enjoying eating Greek yogurt with fruit, toasted coconut, and spearmint flakes.

How was your week?
