I haven't checked in for ages. Exercise has been on the back burner--juggling too many other things and not enough waking hours to get my fitness on. My last big deadline was yesterday so I feel like I can finally relax a little. My family gave me a Fitbit Charge HR for Christmas which I finally broke out last week. I wasn't sure I was going to keep it (I mean do I really need to know how inactive I am?) Probably not but I kept it anyway and really found the sleep tracking info interesting. I'm not technical at all but while I thought I was getting plenty of sleep, the tracker made me realize that I get less than I thought. Of course, I don't know how accurate that thing is but I'm lucky if I get 6 hours. I thought I was closer to 8. I haven't really gotten into the other features--I wore it for a couple of work outs and thought the data was interesting. I'm hoping that it will motivate me to exercise. The only thing that seems kind of wonky is the charger--I've had issues with getting the unit to charge (potentially a deal breaker. I have no patience for those kind of issues.) We will see. Hoping to be a more frequent visitor here! Happy new year, Everyone!

I managed a couple of smoothies, 3 walks and no evening grazing this week. I think I'll call it a success.

Hello ladies, I weighed myself on Jan 1 and it wasn't good. I was at an all time new high, too much wine and holiday treats. Its time I took control of this.
I only did 2 run/walks. This past week. That is going to have to change as well. I have always lived a very active lifestyle. It seems to have gone by the wayside. So, without further adieu, I am going to get dressed and go for a run . It is a pleasant -11 C/overcast morning.

I didn't make any resolutions, either. I mean, if there are things I should be doing, why aren't I already doing them (if you know what I mean). I think I'll try to figure out what obstacles I'm throwing in my path to healthier eating and exercising more, rather than set myself up for sure failure with the resolution thing.

I didn't make any New Years resolutions, but some years ago I read something about Monday resolutions. Every Monday is a new chance to begin a change for the better.

I'm going with a plain old reduced calorie plan. I have a lot going on in my professional life and I need my diet to be to be pretty mindless. It's difficult for me to follow most diets due to gluten and dairy free requirements. I'm planning to use a few recipes that fit in the dietary and calorie requirements and just repeat. Boring but likely effective. I was surprised to find I was down a couple lbs.

I downloaded a couple fitness aps and should be able to try them out in a couple days.

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty great, all things considered. I hope all the colds clear up soon, and all aches and pains go away or at least stay in the "minor" category. I am grateful to this weekly post to keep fitness at the forefront of my lizard brain, instead of getting pushed to the far back. I've also started a food and exercise journal because that always helps, too.

This week has been cool and sunny, so I've been doing long walks, some planks, and core exercises. I'm trying to get to 300 minutes/week of activity. The weather turns rainy tomorrow, so I'll probably hit the treadmill at the gym. I've lost a pound since Christmas, so my pants are a tiny bit looser. I'm going for 10 pounds. See you next week!

Head colds are the worst. I find veggie broth with lots of salt helps.

Congrats on the PB, Anne!

My motivation has dropped significantly over the past few weeks. It might be the result of, or the reason for, a sudden drop in weakness. I just feel inexplicably burnt out. Traveling has disrupted my routine, forcing me to skip workouts and when I was able to work out, the bars and benches felt off relative to what I'm accustomed to. Further, workouts take much longer than they used to, even though I'm doing fewer reps and fewer sets. There. I whined my heart away. Motivation doesn't matter, determination does.

On a positive note, I managed a brief workout yesterday and was able to deadlift 285lb, a personal best. It took me awhile to lock out (straighten my knees and pull my shoulders back), but once I did, I held the bar for a few seconds, relishing how much weight I was holding. It was a good feeling.

Sorry to hear about your colds Shedev and MsMaven.

Citygirl, that sounds like an ambitious plan!! Have you got a goal time for the half?

I have been easing back to exercise after last week's week off.
The good news was that I did a 5K PB on the weekend! I also cycled to work yesterday, and had my first weights session at the gym.

I hope to get back to my routine of 3 weights sessions, one spin, 3 runs. Cycling in when I can (probably not for the rest of this week - highs of 39 (102) are expected) . I'll probably add in a yoga session in Feb. when they start again, if my wrist has recovered.

Unfortunately my wrist is still not strong, and I keep hurting it a bit just in everyday life. I can actually start to see the difference in muscle definition between the 2 arms, as I've done much less weight lifting on the hurt arm.

I'd also like to sort out some achiness in my knees, and my left leg, where I have a tendency to a sore hamstring-sore hip- sore shin,-achy ankle combo ( I have mild scoliosis and my left leg is weaker). I plan on getting new running shoes, but wonder if I need to do something else. It is taking me too long to get recover from soreness after runs.

I came down with a similar cold, shedev. Now it's been two weeks since I've had much of any exercise, but I'm going to wait a few more days until I ease back into it. Holiday/travel weight gain wasn't too bad, especially compared to prior years.

This year I want to emphasize healthy living, but I'm starting out feeling pretty unhealthy.

Sorry you're not feeling well and hope the head cold goes away soon.

I got on the scale today and well...it wasn't good. It could be that it is that TOM and I've had way too much salt the past few days so I'm drinking lots of water.

I'm back on the exercise track (training for a half marathon plus heavy weighted workouts), and watching what I eat. My main goal is to lose about 10 lbs.by the end of the year.

I'm starting 2016 with a bad head cold. I downloaded an app for my phone that give me a daily workout. As soon as I feel a little better, I'm going to try it out.
