Yes, Helen, I agree about all those celebrations!! And while I feel trimmer too, in the interests of full disclosure, I'll admit that while making GF brownies for DD's end of year party, I not only licked the bowl but ate vast quantities of "trimmings" and am up over a kilo! (cooking macaroni cheese for tea from Nigella's new recipe didn't help)

Lots of positive posts : )
A birthday, end of school/year events, and Christmas celebrations make it a challenging time here.
Anne, you really look trim and fit in your last photos!

Definitely not a calorie issue, as I was tracking and weighing the servings.

Low carb donuts, well, like fake meat, you have to accept them on their own terms! But I used coconut flour (defatted), sweetener, 2 eggs, coconut oil (cold pressed/virgin) and a bit of baking powder. If you want exact measurements, let me know. Baked them first, then fried them lightly in coconut oil. Hoping it convinces the very diabetic granny-in-law.

GF the vitamin D level is good to mention (for MsMaven too). I was low on that last year (at which point my iron was ok - I had had an infusion) and took lots of supplements for a month and am (supposed to take) one still every day, though I forget pretty often, of skip because I figure I'll be in the sun. They did test that at same time as the iron, and it was at the low end of normal.

I'm sure you've worked this out already, but the drop when you cut out dairy isn't just a calorific thing is it? I know I can drop weight by cutting dairy - but I love dairy. and eat quite a bit usually, so cutting it out omits lots of calories. I am currently acheiving weight loss without omitting dairy, though I have reduced the amounts a bit.

I am wondering how "low carb stuffed mini doughtnuts" even can be a thing...
:-) (am off to google them)

Oh and well done on the lifting PBs

Laura - I wish you all the best with this - I think personally I have enough to get on with without an extra challenge, but I hope you'll get a team up - maybe post it on Off topic in a separate post?

Reposting from last week's thread:
I'm likely going to do the Whole Life Challenge starting in January.
It's paleo-inspired but doesn't have to be full-on paleo; there are
three options for diet. You also track exercise, sleep etc., daily to
score your points. Anyone else interested? We could make up a team.
https://www.wholelifechallenge.com/

Sounds like everybody is doing well, given this time of year.

If you're feeling low on energy, you might also want to get your Vit D levels checked. It might not (only) be an iron issue.

Week one of the Three Weeks of Chaos is down, thankfully. My interest in working out has taken a nose dive because of work, but I still managed to get three weight lifting sessions in last week.

All time personal bests in the three lifts, which is quite exciting.
Squat: 191lb
Bench: 131lb
Deadlift: 280lb.

I made low carb stuffed mini doughtnuts yesterday for Hanukkah celebrations, and they turned out surprisingly well.

Aside, I noticed a slight but consistent drop on the scale after a few days of virtually no dairy. I added cheese back in yesterday, and the scale is back up. I don't think it's salt retention, and am starting to wonder whether I have a casein sensitivity. It would explain why I found it virtually impossible to cut 2lb over a three-week period back in August for a sporting event. But, cheese!

Hi Sally, I know you've been very busy with work too which must be making things harder. At least you have a very active base so when you cut down you are still pretty active.

My parkrun 5km though a PB was still disappointing (to put it in actual figures, my goal was to go under 25 mins this year, I did just over 27). I don't run the whole way - run about 1.5 and then do 2 mins run/ 30 rest.
It has taken til November to beat the time I did on my first one back at Easter. ( A lot of them I did with my DD7 though) I'd like to think the HIIT intervals and leg work helped, but I am disappointed at how slow the progress is and I'd like to blame the low iron rather than just my will power!

I've been dragging the last few days. I blame it on the dreary weather, but I've been wondering if I'm low on iron like Anne. I was low a few years ago and felt this same way--just dragging. I realized today I haven't had any exercise in the last few days, so will try to get back on schedule. Actually, I'd like to hibernate between now and the last week of January.

I do need to get energy back for next round of playing with 5 & 7 year old boys in a couple of weeks.

It sounds like good weeks all round! Shedev- sounds like being non-dairy helps, Carla- you have managed a tricky time of year brilliantly, and Anne - well done on reaching your goal. What do you think made the difference?

I hit the Christmas wall this weekend and had two afternoon naps, and cut out two workouts. Back to it this morning. Eating has been okay, drinking very minimal, and focussing on getting the vege up. Last week was busy, I skipped dinner one night and have been eating on the fly, never good for me.

Shedev - well done. And your post prompted me to begin that little discussion with my extended family about "who are we giving presents to" (already resolved on DH"s family as "only for the kids")

Carla - am glad that your gastro issues have disappeared and amused at the swim suit wringer!! (Though we have a drying room for cyclist's gear at my office building that is pretty impressive too)

As for me, on the plus side my weight is down to what I historically call my pre-pregnancy weight (for all three kids) which is smack bang in the middle of what for many years I considered my normal range. Lowest I have been all year.

I am hoping though, that the latest 2 pounds aren't muscle, as I have been off the weights owing to my sore wrist - not sure when I should get back to them -the wrist is definitely improving, but doing the ironing was hard on it.

I did what I think was unofficially a parkrun PB (by only a few seconds) on Sat (my crumpled barcode didn't scan, so not official). I have been getting a bit disappointed in how slow I am at improving in running and wondering if getting my iron levels up will help.

I'm on to my second week of the iron tablets, though I've missed about 4 of them. I thought I was fine prior to the diagnosis, which surprised me, but have been pondering whether some of my experiences might be due to low iron - I fall asleep easily at work, as a passenger in the bus or car and at church, feel the cold, and on weekends have been so desperate to have a nap, and then take a while to get the strength to do anything after the nap.

I had attributed all this largely to the early morning sun waking me so early, but I now wonder if the low iron was a contributory factor.

Haven't posted for a while due to travel, etc. As a gift during my visit, my Dad got me a 1 week pass at a posh club In his community. Towel service, toiletries, even a swim suit wringer afair! They do everything for you, but your workout! I managed 3 big workout days around Thanksgiving and the big football game. On arriving home, I picked up where I left off and weight remaIns stable.

Since I've been on holidays, am eating dinner earlier and gastro issues have disappeared.

Sleep is a little disturbed since I've had to deal with 3 hour time difference.

Still dairy free, food is good with lots of fruits and veggies. Exercise was a little yoga and a lot of walking around looking for Christmas gifts. I only have 5 people left to buy for. I'm hoping to finish out this week.
