Thanks Laura, MsMaven and Helen!!

My son is absolutely fine now - phew. Horrible week last week with him in hospital, but he recovered quickly. DH has a sling and cannot drive nor exercise (which is hard for him), but he is philosophical about it. It will take a month we think. He injured himself at the velodrome- track cycle racing in his favourite new sport.

One workout so far since coming back from a long-anticipated and carb-filled vacation.

I decided to change my exercise program for the next few months. While the previous program helped with absolute strength (actual one-rep maxes), I hit a wall with my bench press and felt that I needed more volume overall. So, yesterday I did 10 sets of 5-rep squats of 120b, with 1min rest in between. It. Was. Brutal. I thought at the beginning that 120b would be easy, but by the third set my legs were cramping. It was awful, but I'll be sticking with it.

One walk/ jog, and a walk every day so far. I had feared the muscle soreness that comes with increasing exercise, but it was ok.
Always good to hear others good reports.
Sally, no wonder your week was up and down! Sending get well wishes for your DH and DS.

Wow Sally, that is a hard way to start the New Year. I hope father and son recover quickly without more complications.

My year of living healthy got off to a dismal start. Three weeks after I came down with my cold I finally started feeling better, and today I have most of my old energy back. Unfortunately I have been gaining as well--another 3 pounds added on to the 3-4 I gained over the holidays. I have been eating much less--no more candy and starchy food, but I've been nearly inactive--just sitting around. While the dark, rainy days are good for the drought, they keep me inside and not moving much.

I started keeping track of food consumption again and can see why I didn't lose, but harder to figure out why the gain--apparently I burn a lot more calories than I realize in my daily life.

Enough whining--I expect to have a much better report next week.

Oh no, Sally, hope your DH feels better soon.

I'm doing the Whole Life challenge which started on Saturday. My scores haven't been perfect yet, but it's definitely got me improving my food and fitness. Also started meditating regularly again.

Exercise has been good here - lots of walking and back at the gym after a three week break.

I have been eating okay but few too many glass of wine over summer. We have had a lot of injuries/ incidents from my son having a sprained ankle and a hospital stay due to a boil inside his nose which needed lancing and IV antibiotics. Today DH has broken his collarbone.

I am doing Yoga almost daily. I try to do a good walk every day but lately that has been difficult because of my foot problem. However, now that I am in Florida it has been a little easier to walk. Yeah! I am going to focus on an hour walk every day and see how that goes.
My weight was up a little. BF jeans were a bit snug. Maybe not BF jeans anymore. I guess that will be my benchmark.

Shedev. Bootcamp does look very tough!!

Runcarla - very impressive!

My weight is up a little - DD's birthday and a general laxness on my part being the reason. I've also been off exercise for about a week, trying to get my knee better. It is sore just above the kneecap on the right side.

3 weight workouts, 2 runs, 1 bike, 1 swim, 1 yoga class. Only 1 day off (2 days were double workout days.

The weight training program is to help develop strength and power for the short triathlon's I like to do in the summer. It takes an hour and a half to do the routine, which I do every T, Th, Su. I start with a 1 mile warm-up run on the treadmill, then...

-Squats alternating with Lat pull down (4 sets of 10)
-Walking lunges (60) alternating with dumbbell chest press (4 sets)
-Incline seated leg press (single leg - 10 each side) alternating with shoulder series (10 each dumbbell raise to side, to front, overhead) 4 sets
-Incline biceps curl, alternating with triceps press (4 sets of 10 each)

I finish off with a side stretch exercise to deal with a muscle imbalance that ended up affecting my right shoulder (but was resolved with sports chiro and a stretch he taught me) and 'halo's' for shoulder mobility.

3 months in and my weights have gone up a little, but mainly I am focusing on technique. My trainer (DS#2) is ruthless about proper form!

I had an ok week. Sticking well with my calorie plan. This does seem to work better for me than more structured diets. Exercise was ok. I did 1 boot camp, 2 yoga. The boot camp made me crazy sore. I'm going to try for 2 this week. I have a job training workshop this week so I'm going to be pretty busy.
