carter, I'm half way there already. After I take the wheat, dairy ,and sugar away because they don't like me, I'm a little reluctant to voluntarily take anything else away. I'm working on tweaking some of the stuff I like to eat to make it taste good. I'm not saying I wouldn't choose to go Paleo in the future.

Natalie, I ordered their materials, but I stopped short of signing up for coaching. I have been reading their forums and chose a workout plan from the site. Right now it's not financially doable but I may sign up the next time it is available.

MsMary, me too, it's wonderful. You are having a great start to the new year.

Lara, You gotta taste test, right? Your body will adjust when you get back into your regular routine.

The holidays really did me in this year and while DD was home on winter break she was really intent on learning to bake and cook, so for 5 weeks I gave her a crash course and, of course, overindulged a bit. Trying to get back on track and have been converted into a tea drinker (have not given up on coffee though). I found a cinnamon apple tea that I have been drinking in the afternoon and it has greatly reduced those afternoon cravings (I do not add anything to my tea). I think it is the cinnamon that has reduced my cravings. Hopefully, by summer I will lose the additional pounds that I packed on.

Also, looking into getting the FitBit Charge HR into keeping me on track with my fitness.

Happy to see so many people joining this thread in the new year!

I successfully made it to the gym five times last week, so that was a big win. Four boot camp classes and a session with Trainer Dave.

This week the plan is a trainer session, three boot camp classes, a walk around the Rose Bowl, and a tap class on Saturday.

My weight is up a couple of pounds after the holidays but it's starting to creep down so I'm not super worried about that. I have stocked up on healthy food and am trying to eat at home more than I did during the holidays.

Oh, and I had my annual physical and my doctor is happy with me: Body fat and weight in normal range, waist smaller than last year, and blood work all perfect. Yay!!

Hi!
Can I join too? I've been a total couch potato. I've been eating whatever I want and not exercising, and that plan worked OK when I was nursing around the clock, but is not working for me anymore. I have gained about 10-15 lb and it's all in my post-baby potbelly. I look like I'm pregnant!

I just did a Jillian Michaels DVD workout the last two nights. I haven't worked out in forever. My thighs are so sore! I've been trying to eat more salads and vegetables.

And this is a big step--I signed up for the Precision Nutrition coaching program. I can't believe I did that. I don't know if I will be able to devote as much time as they require for exercising, with work and the three kids. But I need to do something. My husband and I are going on a dive trip in July and I want to get in shape. And I want to set a better example for my kids! They already call me a "candy monster" because I love candy so much!

Shedev, you have all the good stuff left! Have you looked at Primal/Paleo? Try http://www.marksdailyapple.com.

As for me, I've finally been cleared for some easy exercise following foot surgery. I certainly need it. 3 months of sitting on my tuckus has resulted in a much wider tuckus!

Hi Ladies,

May I join in?

I'm getting back on track this week by bringing a healthy lunch and two snacks each day. Also walking down to the square to have lunch each day and using a standing desk when I can.

Planning to get back on the treadmill before the weekend (or walk or swim instead). My cunning plan is to do something active every other day to begin with.

It looks like most of the group is back on track after the holidays. I have been in Mexico since last Monday and have averaged about 10-12 miles of walking per day while here. At least half of it is on the beach with the waves lapping over my feet to keep me cool. I have gained as much as 10 lbs on a vacation so am being much more careful. No desserts or sweets for me and the fridge is full of cut fruit and vegetables for snacks. So far, so good.

Well I have kept up my walks as often as possible but our weather has been very hot and I don't handle the heat well. I took things to the next level and I have embraced the Bodytrim method of eating and am following the weightloss program. Week 1 was a three day detox, then commenced following a high protein, low carb style of eating. I dropped 2kg and I am in week 2. Going well, feeling amazing. Master 11 commented on just how much energy I have at the moment. Finding this style of eating really easy!! So far. Need to get the walking more frequent.

WTG everyone! Amiable, I did something similar last year - in fact it may have been the same site - but for other reasons didn't end up 'winning'.

I just got back from a walk around the neighborhood - once around the loop street I live on is a half mile, so I've been trying to do at least a mile a day. It's hilly in bits too so gets my breathing and heart rate going a bit. It's a start, anyway.

Some great progress and goals here! For me, I'm trying to go for a month without wine - last time I did, I noticed a big difference. I usually have 2 glasses a night on most nights so giving it up for just one month means losing nearly 3 lbs if I don't change anything else. I don't have a scale but the results were very visible last time. And it seems to always be belly weight that is lost. My diet is always healthy and I'm not fond of sweets or heavy foods, so the holidays don't have too much impact on me. But winter in general often means more time indoors and more time snacking so I'm trying to make sure I watch the intake. Otherwise, been struggling with a bad cold for over a week and the weather is cold, wet and not conducive to walking when you're sick, so exercise has been limited. But I've been eating less because I don't feel well and am not up to my usual love of cooking.

I'm excited at my progress. I've consistently avoided most sweets for the week (not that I've had none, but very few), and I'm down 8 pounds from the beginning of the year.

I joined a fitness challenge (the "meltdown" challenge), where you throw $20 into a "pot", then have 6 weeks to lose 6% of your bodyweight (there's exercises and eating plans - that, if I understand correctly are rather optional). The "pot" is split among those who reach their goal (to either maintain weight, or lose 6% of your body weight - you choose the goal when you join). There's currently 800+ people participating (it starts tomorrow), and I'm already enjoying the camaraderie. I even passed up really beautiful desserts at a social gathering tonight!

I'm back on track, although I still don't fit into all my pre-December clothes. Kept a food diary--the only way it works for me. Stopped drinking wine and haven't been eating sugar. Regular exercise again, although I've had to slow down on the yoga. My knee doesn't like it. It's pruning time here in California. Almost done with the wisteria, and I do believe long handled pruning shears are good for the biceps.

Next week: I hope to fit in those jeans by the end of the month, so I am motivated to stay on track. If I can do it I hope DH will be motivated to do it as well. He's grown out of most of his clothes. I've learned it does no good to push the diet and exercise--he's a grown man and will do it when he's ready. I'm not running to the mall to buy him new clothes either. No more enabling.

Hi all. Did well on food this week. I'm having some issues (pain) with dairy right now, and also some issues with sugar. I'm really trying to stop eating things my body is telling me not to eat. I've been gluten free due to Celiacs for a few years now. I have to admit I'm a little stymied as to how I can create a functional nutrition plan with what's left.

I signed up for Precision Nutrition's site, but I haven't yet signed up for the nutrition coaching. I'm a little reluctant to commit to a year of their fees. I'm hoping to receive the materials I ordered before I go all in. I only have till weds to sign up and the their year program starts.

I did look up one of their exercise programs and I will start that tomorrow.
