Runcarla, I’m fascinated by your new workout plan. I hope it continues to be a satisfying routine.

During periods of extreme hot/cold, I usually just do HIIT workouts twice a week plus a bike ride on the weekend. Now that the temperatures are dropping I’m trying to add a few outdoor runs.

A lady clapped for me at the gym while I was working out with my PT. It felt so good to get some moral support! Thirty minutes with him makes me sweat profusely, and today was an all lower body workout, which is challenging with chronic pain,

My week is an improvement over last week. The doctor gave me the go ahead to resume working out. I intend to start tomorrow (October 14).

Based on a thread started by BC, I started to wonder just how much I was eating in a given day and what kinds of food was I eating. I joined Weight Watchers for three months as a "checkup." My second weigh-in is tomorrow.

I have the same questions that RunCarla has, if you feel comfortable going into detail, GF.

Thanks! Glad we're back with Healthy Habits. It helps me a lot to be accountable for my activities. This last year has been a long, slow weight gain. I've lost a little, but keep bouncing up. I've had a hard time keeping to a regular diet and a regular exercise routine.

I've lost two inches in height the last few years--thank goodness didn't lose more at last checkup. I do weigh more. Where does it go? Right around the middle in what we used to call a spare tire. Now a muffin top and worse. I don't want to name the belly.

I'm so impressed by your weight training and the weights you use, GF! Have you competed before? Do you have a future competition in mind? Setting goals can really help one stay motivated, and breaks training into cycles that are more interesting than doing the same thing throughout the year.

I got a new weight training program earlier this week, but did not like it. After some more talk with my trainer it got revised, and I'm ever so happy with the new plan! I do weight training 3 days a week for the next 6 months (see pic of program below).

I get to see my strength increase as I progress through the squat-deadlift-bench press work, but there is lots of variety with all the other exercises that I don't get bored. My trainer is imaginative, but thorough!

Alternate days I can get in a yoga or spin class, or go for a swim or a run. Whatever I feel like doing!

Another round of holidays meant a four-day break from the gym, and far too many treats. I didn't intend for it, but these things happen. There are still more holidays this week, but after that, it's back to the mundane.

Today's workout was long, but reaonsable. On the plus side, I think the break helped my back. I tried a non-weighted squat, focusing on form, and discovered that my usual depth--competition depth, with the knee crease higher than the hip crease--was much low for my mobility. The PT I saw in the spring had alerted me to this issue, but today was the first time I could distinctly feel the point where my hips start tucking in. Great news for self-discovery, not so great if I hope to compete. I widened my stance a bit, and worked my way up to a surprising 190lb high bar squat with minimal pain. I followed this up with a 125lb bench, some back accessory work, and a long cardio session. What a great way to start the week.

How was your week?
