My week was pretty good - several long hikes, a few good weight workouts. I've been trying to do planks regularly as they feel right for the core. I've also added some yoga stretches but have been very careful to research which ones are right for me. I have a neck issue so no weird neck movements for me (besides those can be very dangerous even for those without an issue). With the planks, I think just after a couple of weeks I can tell the difference. I do non weight squats now but will likely add some weights again in the future.

My diet is pretty good - I still splurge when I feel a need - for me it's savory stuff, not sweets. Still having my wine but not as much these days. I feel better for it too.

Well, I lost a pound and I'm happy. This year I have gained weight slowly but consistently, and at last I am on the right road. Just in time for Halloween! Did not sign up for the trick or treat map this year. This is usually the time I begin gaining.

Last few months have been difficult. Various health problems which I am recovering from have made it more difficult. For me though, more important than weight is waist and ab measurement. That is finally going down. It isn't that I want to lose X pounds, it's the muffin top, spare tire, apple belly that I want to go.

This weekly check in helps me a lot.

Wow! I'm impressed.m :)

This week, I was glad that squats were easier for me and that my quads didn't hurt (for the first time in ages). Also, the trainer didn't have to correct my form. Patting self on back while realizing that I can't lift nearly as much weight as you can.

I'm impressed with the squat too! I find squatting pretty difficult (specifially keeping the knees from moving inside)

Last time I posted I hoped to get a PB for a 10km race - well that didn't happen. The race did but not the PB! My exercise has been a bit off the usual, with a trip interstate (though lots of walking) and then a cold.

Am trying to get back into the summer routine of 3 runs (1 possibly an interval session) cycling to work 2x a week and 2-3 gym sessions. Feeling like maybe I need to do more of the latter - I really only lift weights for 60-90 mins a week, as I go in my lunchbreaks. Any thoughts? I can only get to my gym on my 3 workdays, so perhaps I should try to fit an extra session in before work.

I am now trying to to lose my winter weight. I did it last year so hopefully can do it now. Still in the hungry phase. I am pretty much cutting out sugar, grains and dairy (may bring back dairy soon, as I love cottage cheese) though with some leeway with eating out.

WOW! Amazing. I have started a new exercise class for people who have "issues". It is suppose to be on the gentle side and uses light weights but works out all your muscles. I enjoyed it and felt like it was a good workout. Then I went to a Yoga class. This new class is on Mon, Wed and Fri.
I am hoping to build up some strength without injuring myself. I will continue to do 4 to 5 Yoga classes a week. I am trying to do my walking but my feet are complaining.

Nutrition has been consistently, even boringly, healthful. Have been consistently logging everything in a tracking app since July. The resulting insight is valuable, and tweaking food choices feels like a game challenge rather than control or restriction. The social aspect of the app surprised me; there's a lot of moral support.

Exercise ...not so much. I scaled back on working out in order to address posture issues and spend time on PT exercises. Am definitely feeling the detrimental effect on my outlook and energy.

Glad to hear that your back is doing better!

Wow, working towards a goal of a state record sounds very cool/amazing.
I got out of the house for my first walk in weeks. Health stuff, then toxic air pollution issues.

I just missed 2 full weeks when I came down with a bug. Coughed so hard my abs felt like they do after a hard core day! Yesterday was my first day back so I kept my weights on the lighter side, but focused on form. Felt good afterwards, and just a little stiff today.

October and November are usually for recovery after race season anyway, so I’m not beating myself up. I need a goal to train for. I feel it gives my workouts purpose! GF, I think you should try for the record, but set a time frame that supports recovery from your back injury.

I’m so impressed by your squats! Wow!
I think you should do it and enroll in a competition. It seems like you have a real passion for weight lifting.
Interesting to hear about lifting shoes.

My diet has been pretty poor. But exercise has been good.

YAY YOU!!!

I did awful. My diet had been so good!!! But for some unexplained reason on Wednesday, I went into a friend's office and began to binge on chocolate. Once I was done in her office, I went to a second friend's office and did the same. On my way home, I stopped off and bought still more chocolate. I was never satiated. If I couldn't find chocolate, I was willing to settle for cheesecake.

I ate garbage from Wednesday morning until Friday night. The scales reflected this major binge.

I have been given doctor's permission to resume exercising, but the weather has been uncooperative.

Positive: I am back to a healthy, doctor-approved eating plan. I am going hiking this weekend.

Holy crap . I can’t even imagine being able to squat that low . My knees just don’t allow it . I’m falling off my own workout plan , and am not happy about it . The last two weeks have been about half of what I need to be doing and it’s showing up in my overall state of mind and appearance . Too many work commitments and other bs getting in the way . You’re inspiring me to kick it back into gear .

Apart from a three-day holiday last weekend, I've been much better about exercise consistency as of late, even if it's just for a short time. For the first time in many months, I had a "perfect week" on my Apple Watch, and trying for it forced me to exercise when I mightn't have. Cardio is now a staple of every workout.

My back is still recovering, but I managed a 195lb squat tonight and last night, as well as a 125lb bench. The squat felt like it hit depth (hip below knee), but it did not, which means that for any competition, I would probably have to switch to lifting shoes (shoes with a heel). Pic #1 is high bar, pic # 2 is low bar; #1 would definitely be red carded in a competition, #2 might, but you don't want to leave any room for chance. People with long femurs generally wear lifting shoes, as it allows them to squat deeper.

To answer a question from the last thread: I did a single competition two years ago, but haven't done any since. Part of the issue is that the local ones have been held on Saturdays, which is the only day I can't make. For the previous competition, the organizers made an exception and allowed me to compete on Sunday instead of Saturday, but since my weight class had competed on Saturday, I wasn't eligible for placing. Regardless, due to my back troubles, I had nearly talked myself out of doing one again, until a woman in one of my FB groups posted her recent competition results. She was in the same weight class as me, and set the Texas state record, but my bench press used to be stronger than hers, and my deadlift roughly the same. Although I didn't enjoy competing itself, I am very drawn to the challenge of setting a new state record.

Anyway, enough rambling. How was your week?
