Here's my good news/bad news. Good news is that I got on the scale today for a morning weigh in and I've dropped a couple more pounds. This is the lowest weight I've been for years. I haven't been trying to lose more--just very busy. Other good news is that I got the results from the bone scan last week, and I am still in the "normal" range.

I have a friend the same age I am who is also the same height, but has always been heavier than me--but not a lot. She has a broader build and heavier bones and has always been quite physical--dancing and doing Pilates. I was surprised when she told me last week she has been taking Fosamax for several months for osteopenia. I'm relieved to learn that I'm okay.

Bad news is that my arthritic knee is acting up and while my back is better, I'm still stiff and achy when I sit a long tim. I've been doing my exercises though, and am doing pretty well on eating healthy. I'm on track though.

I think that hanging in and reporting here every week for the last two years has been very helpful in keeping weight from ballooning up again an keeping an awareness of the importance of exercise as I age. I've learned some useful information as well. So thanks everyone for sharing, and to Shedev for keeping this going all year.

Good and bad news here

THe good news is that I had a week off. We spent 4 days in a forest area with old friends who we go away with every year.Wonderful to have some screen- free time too.Did a little hiking, for the first time ever too the short option (8km)rather than the long 14 km (which my DD 7 and 9 did) owing to *

The bad news is that 1 gained around 2 pounds in those days and almost 2 more the day I after I got back!
I couldn't exercise as much either, as a few days beforehand I had had a supermarket trolley cut my ankle, which made it
* too uncomfortable to wear running shoes.

That is now almost healed and I am determined to make some changes, I have decided I can't put off doing weight training, and have committed to 2 sessions a week. I also counted out and bagged almonds in daily rations ( I didn't like nuts most of my life, but suddenly I like almonds and was in danger of overeating them) and stopped buying dark chocoloate since I can't seem to eat just 2 squares.

I am still struggling with feeling hungry and wanting to eat what is obviously too much, since I'm putting on weight.

Shedev - we are getting too hot - opposite of you

Carla - sure wish I was my college weight! (in fact I was, in March last year! - but can't get down that low again) Maybe triathalons are the answer!

Diana - Athens sounds amazing. I didn't like greek food much when I visited there as a child (too oily) but I bet I would now

Carter - what a great situation at the gym. I wish mine had classes like "upper body" and "lower body strength"!

Beth Ann - do you have a fitbit?

Greetings!

I'm pping the intensity of my circuit workouts this week, and dropping my calorie count by about 200 more calories. I haven't been hungry, so I think I can tweak a bit. On Sunday, we spent the day in Brown County, IN, which is hilly and beautiful. I forgot my walking shoes, but still managed 12,000 steps in kitten heels (for church) and crocs!

Diana: I would have loved getting my 10,000 steps in Athens! Hope your reentry to regular life is smooth.

Carla: You are making the most of the fall weather --- and you look terrific.

Carter: It's nice to have personal attention --- so much more motivating than sweating near anonymous hordes.

SheDev: Chance of frost here, too, although it will warm up quickly.

Carla, you rock!

Shedev, my husband grew up in Cleveland...he's shivering just thinking about it. Stay warm!

Still loving the new fitness studio I found. Several classes in the past week: upper body strength, lower body strength, flex/core, pilates (today). Upper body strength scheduled again for tomorrow. After that, I'll have one left in the class package I bought, so I'll sign up for the monthly contract. As I mentioned before, it's a new place, so most of my classes are only 1-3 people. Hoping they get enough members to stay open but not so many that it gets crowded;-)

I pretty much wrote off last week re: healthy habits as I was in Athens. Lots of delicious but heavy food and plenty of wine. Also, jet lag and not enough sleep. I did walk a lot while I was there (including lots of hills and stairs) so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. ;)

Anyway, am back now so I am hoping to get back in the swing of things with working out and eating healthy.

Shedev, freezing temps already?!?! I am not ready for that. It was surprisingly warm for mid-october here today, I think around 75?

Carla, you look great and that is so impressive that you are at your college weight! I am a long way away from mine...

I've missed a few weeks - what with things getting a bit hectic on the work and home front! Have kept up 3 runs, at least 1 swim, and 1 yoga - per week.

Today, DS #1 and I did a local 5K 'Turkey Trot'. It was a hilly run on a beautiful forest trail made all the more special by the gorgeous foliage.

Reflecting back over my summer, I am quite happy. I managed 4 short course triathlons bracketed by a spring 10K and a fall 5K - exactly what I did in 2013, but missed in 2014 due to all the brouhaha around the relocation.

Also, my weight has stabilized in the 140-145 lb range, about 10 lbs lower than I've been the past 25 years and pretty much my college weight!

Getting in some last minute outdoor activity before it turns cold. Mostly running around with the dogs. We're supposed to get our coldest day so far Saturday. May get some ice pellets Saturday night and our first frost. I'm not ready. Food is good, enjoying lots of fruit. How was your week?
