For the first time in my life I started a running program. It is called First Strides and is for beginners. The goal is to run a 5K on October 1st. I signed up for two nights a week so I only need to do one run on my own. They also take attendance which holds me accountable. It's hard for me right now but last night was a little easier than last week as the humidity and temperature had dropped considerably. Hope I can keep up with it as obviously the intensity will ramp up over the upcoming weeks.

The neck is fortunately getting better. I've been careful with it and doing my regular exercise program, just at a low level. I'm going to try yoga today and just skip shoulder stand, fish and anything else like that.

QF brenda - Rubin"s abstainer/moderater argument is very interesting and we have discussed it before on YLF (somewhere). I think "moderation" can be a bit meaningless sometimes too.

I have been going well with exercise - 2 gym sessions, 3 jog/walks or short jog, a nearly 2 hour walk on Sat and (almost) daily strength exercises from my physiotherapist.

Food is also going well, with a bit less going in, though on the other hand I'm on quite a cooking kick at the moment! (After the long walk DD and I had a failed attempt at making salted caramel icecream - we still ate the failure!)

The euphoria of completing an event keeps misery at bay for about 24 hours. At 48 hours the discomfort of having pushed your body to new levels of exertion sets in. Fatigue can last a week.

Do some gentle exercise. Take a walk, do a stretching class or restorative yoga, an easy lap swim. Get a massage if you can! Vitamin I (also known as Ibuprophen!) helps.

How do you feel UmmLila today? How is the whip lash? I ask as I feel under the weather. The weekend cycling has caught up on me. I've taken paracetamol and am not doing very much at all!

Super fun pictures! Reminds me that part of college freshmen orientation was rope pulling contests in the mud.

I'd like to start checking in to these threads. I've been trying to lose the same 10-15 pounds for a few years now. I have a good habit of three weekly three mile walks but think I should add something to get my heart rate up...and weight lifting...

I've been lousy at tracking my food the last couple of weeks. Life has been getting in the way, and then I've just flat out made poor choices. But today is another day and a chance to make a different choice.

I've been reading Gretchen Rubin's Better Than Before, her book about habits, and I'm seeing that I am an abstainer. I would do better if I just cut certain foods out of my life because I don't moderate well. The next step will be talking myself into abstaining, and trying to stick to that in a world that seems to think everyone ought to moderate all things. It's a challenge, for sure!

Mudderella sounds like a lot of fun.

Got in all 3 stronglifts, a crisis at my job and some continuing ed got in the way of Krav. It is a class and held at specific times. It is easier to get to the gym because there is some flexibility there.
My weightloss stalled until I figured out that I need to cut calories to the low end of what my fitness pal recommends.

Bravo! Ummlila and Jane, on your weekend events!

I took it easy this week, since last Sunday was a race. Two easy swims, one run, a weight routine day. It was nice to go out for a walk with DH after dinner, instead of rushing to the gym. It was nice to share a bottle of wine over dinner, too, but I did notice it adds to feelings of muscular stiffness the next day!

I have the coming week off, so plan to get training done during the day so we can do after dinner walks again this week. Today I did a bike and run.

Food was a little high on carbs, but the weekend was good since I hit up the farmers market and stocked up on fresh produce.

Well done Ummila....you look a little too clean though!! They are fun events and I hope your back improves.

I have been trucking along. It has been very wet here which is totally uninspiring for outdoor exercise. Eating has been okay but could be better. I have not drunk much wine so that is a good start and sugar is also pretty low.

Wow, UmmLila, that looks intense! And fun! My gym puts together a team for races like this, but so far they've all involved fire and barbed wire. Not interested!

I haven't participated in this thread before, but I need some accountability coming off of vacation! I'm mostly back on track with diet but need to get two solid workouts in this week.

That looks like work and fun all rolled into one. I love that it's cooperative.
I swam twice and walked once. I overdid it and my back spasmed. Luckily a strong dose of ibuprofen and sitting in exactly the right position for quite a while took care of it.
Eating-not horrible -but not in the groove.

I did Mudderella yesterday in Epping, New Hampshire. It was 5.7 mile course with 13 or 14 various muddy obstacles. It's a nice event because it's not a race -- you get a t-shirt that says you're a "finisher" -- and it's primarily focused on team work.

The only negative is that I think I gave myself whiplash in the last obstacle, which involved jumping off a twenty-foot-ish platform onto a air mattress.

Here are a couple of pix, one of a carry your teammate (it's nice to be the one carried) and another of one of various mud pits.
