I am trying to make myself take at least one 30 minute walk a day at work lunchtime (or 2- 15 minutes walks at work) and drink more liquid. Guess coffee doesn't count....so I'm trying to drink more herbal tea. I NEED to get my treadmill at home serviced. It squawks and bucks so that I feel I can't even use it right now and I really miss it since I was really good last year about exercising every day for 30 minutes and actually lost 10 lbs that I fear I will regain if I am not more active.

Still not back into the exercise routine - only going 2x/week, when it really needs to be 3x/week.

Last weekend, I did a 3 mile run on Sunday. I did a cross training workout on Tuesday that killed my legs for the rest of the week. I could still feel it by the time I did my slowpoke 3 mile run yesterday.

Hopefully by this Tuesday I'll have recovered.

Isabel, I think you're doing spectacularly well! I have my exercise all in place, but food is a little problematic. My weekly schedule is two one-hour workouts with the trainer, three boot camp classes, and yesterday I started a one hour "tappercize" tap dancing/exercise class on Saturday morning, which I love!

Hubby is going out of town for a couple of months soon on business, and I hope not having an eating/drinking buddy on site will make it easier to cut back on the calories!

Claire, exactly !! I figure that if I show up one day and vomit, they will all just nod their heads in understanding....LOL

Chewy, our local Ys are doing a pilot program called LiveStrong. The classes are small ( 12 people ) with several trainers to help us. Though I am a member, anyone who wants to join and can't afford the fee can take the class ( 12 weeks , several times a week ) for free.

Exercising with back problems is so tough - but we can do this.

Yay, Isabel! That sounds like a plan. Not only will you have a group to exercise with, but they will all be on the same page as you are.

I forgot to add that I need to drink more water. Since it's not blazing hot out, I'm not naturally as thirsty as I am in the summer, but I can tell by my wrinkled fingertips that I'm dehydrated. How are you all about drinking water when it's cold and you just want coffee or tea?

I have been doing good about walking a few miles pretty much every day. My knees and ankles just can't handle running or hiking, unfortunately. I am not craving salads as much either since the weather is cooler and it gets dark early. If I'm feeling chilled in the evening, the last thing I want to do is wash and prepare salad greens. What I need to do is fix the salad right when I get back from my afternoon walk and I'm nice and warm. Then later I won't need as much motivation to make sure I eat it! I feel so much better when I eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables.

My body is shifting too, but I try not to worry about it too much. Like you Malina and Kim, I'm not willing to make weight training my full time job. And like you Khris, I don't want to injure myself any further. Things like a torn hamstring can take such a long time to heal that it's just not worth it to push myself. Luckily most people never see me in a swim suit so it works out okay.

Hey, Isabel, that is *more* impressive than the rest of us! You and Khris both taking steps in the face of physical limitations is much more impressive than us merely tryign to motivate our able bodied physiques into action!

To make it simple, I have none, LOL !!

Seriously, I have cut out soday altogether. I used to love a diet cola every once in a while, but no more. I have gained 35 lbs since my anti-cancer treatments started and I need to control what I can ( since I can't control the side effects ). I was having a hard time motivating myself to get on my treadmill, so I signed up for a program at the Y to re-condition cancer patients. So I will be doing that.

Not as impressive as the rest of you....but I will be beating you butt in a few months ! ( OK, maybe NOT ! )

For me, it's one step forward and two steps back. I have been doing better with food, but not so much with exercise. I am stuck in a cycle of fear of doing too much and hurting my back worse, so I am trying to figure a way out. Like Kim, I am trying to come to terms with what I feel comfortable eating and how much exercise I can realistically get in. It's been tough, but I feel like I am on the right track at least.

Yes, Kim, you are so right on the freedom of not pursuing perfection!! I have an old school friend that I played softball with back in 7th and 8th grade. I recently reconnected with her on Facebook. She is a pin up model of sorts. She's over 40, like me, but with those rock hard abs. But she works at it. Really works at it. It's part of her job. And I, like you, am not willing to commit to what it takes to get there. I do admit it's encouraging to know that it's entirely possible for mere mortals like us, though :)
For now I am happy to stay in my current wardrobe comfortably!!

I'm in a good place. I've been going through a process of realizing that I need to commit to what I am willing to commit to (diet and exercise wise) and accept the body that results from that commitment. I can't tell you how freeing that has been for me. I realize that I am willing and able to keep up a 4-5 day a week workout routine, and I feel good sticking to a 1600ish calorie per day diet...but on hungry days I eat more. Once a week I can guiltless enjoy a bit of gluttony. I am slowly dropping ounce by ounce (our scale registers to the tenth pound).

I had an epiphany a few weeks ago when my copy of Fitness Magazine arrived... with a bikini wearing model on the cover as usual. This is the only time of the month I bemoan the fact that I don't feel that I have a bikini worthy body. I came to the realization that it would take much more work than I am willing to put forth to look like any given months cover model and so that does not need to be my goal. I am happy, healthy and feel great in my clothing almost every day. Sure, if I wake up one day with rock hard abs, I won't be complaining, but until then I'm content

I HEAR you on about every front, Mo. I'm also doing a run or big hike about twice a week ATM. I have an unopened bag of salad in the fridge. Been trying to at least focus on eating protein, since the weather makes me want HOT food more than greens. :T We also just got a perfect pullup bar, so I hope to start doing some leg lifts on that every day.

Shape shifting is weird indeed. My hips started widening a little late in life, probably because I stopped doing so much gymnastics and stuff, and it realllly freaked me out for about a year. Women who have children must develop amazing mental fortitude!

I am on WW and gained a little over the holidays so that's been keeping me from slipping up too much. I lost momentum this week because I was laid up with a couple medical issues that kept me from working out and really brought my spirits down. Hopefully this next week will be better. I need to get some meals planned also so I don't rely on convenience so much.

I definitely hear you on the changing shape. Mine is probably due to my two kids, though. LOL. I'm more blown away by the vanity sizing - as I've lost some weight I've gotten back into some of the size 10s that have been put away for 2-3 years, but when I shop for new stuff I'm regularly buying 8s or even 6s. What??

A lot of folks let fitness slip by the wayside right about now. How are we all doing? I am mustering up 2 runs a week but am admittedly pretty lazy on my other days. Must be the season, even though I am in FL, winter is winter. Less daylight.
I seem to be in a pizza and wine rut, too, lol! Fresh summer salads seem like a long ago dream. I could use more fresh meals on the table for sure.
I am still doing push ups and ab moves most every night before bed. But I think my shape is shifting this last year or two. Instead of having to be sure my hips fit in jeans I'm beginning to have to check the waistband first! Weird to have your fit focus change after so many years (but I've never been pregnant so I've never had to deal with shifting shape before)
