Thanks so much. I had surgery on the 6th, and it went well without complications. I had a TAH through a lateral incision and retained both ovaries. We are still waiting on pathology to determine if cancer had developed or not. Depending on those results, I am either done as far as treatment goes (fingers crossed) or we will have to discuss other options (removal of ovaries and possibly lymph nodes in the area). It goes without saying that I cannot truly rest easily until I know those results. The dr. did say that if he had to guess - based on all the tests prior to the surgery and how things looked during surgery - he would say that in all likelihood there either isn't cancer or it is in its very, very beginning stages.

Recovery has been good, without complications so far and without a lot of pain. Regardless of whether I will need further surgery or not, I could not give up both ovaries without pause.

Deborah, it gives me hope that someone as upbeat, seemingly healthy and fashionable as yourself has gone through similar surgery. It is sometimes difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel when one is going through things. Isabel, I am so glad your mother's surgery was enough to treat her cancer. It definitely is good that this is a very treatable cancer (if there is cancer present), but it is still a shock to potentially lose both ovaries and go through menopause so early.

My mom had full blown endometrial cancer. She had a tumor the size of a football. That was 25 years ago. She had a radical hysterectomy and no treatment. It is very very scary. It is also very treatable. My thoughts and prayers made with you. XXXXXXXX

Echo, I'm only seeing this now, but I'm sending good vibes and hoping that only the minimum is necessary and you receive a clean bill of health! I'll be having surgery soon for fibroids and have been quite nervous (not sure yet if removal of my uterus will be necessary, but I'm steeling myself for that likelihood), but you're dealing with quite a bit more. Big hugs to you!

Echo, big hugs. I understand the fear and uncertainty that this kind of news brings. I think the huge positive in this case is that they caught it early and hopefully the cancer cells have not spread. I will keep you in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Echo, but it is clearly a necessary step in this case, especially to put your mind at rest about future concerns.

Sending warm and positive thoughts your way, Echo. I have not had the hysterectomy but I did have endometriosis and surgery for that and terrible fibroids and it was a very good decision for me. Two friends have been through the procedure for the same reason as you and both are very healthy now - and so much happier.

On edit my friend did the ablation and the hysterectomy about six years ago, in her mid-forties. Now, she did not have cancer, but was having terrible bleeding, pain and exhaustion. The procedures improved her life about a million percent. I will send along positive thoughts and healing vibes for you.

I realize I haven't been here all that long, although I've been reading far long than I have been posting. I intended to post WIWs, but health issues snuck up on me. I am posting mainly because I think some others here have gone through something similar.

In October I started bleeding and did not stop. I finally went to the dr. and my hemoglobin was at a 5.8; the dr. was shocked that I was still standing I was so anemic, and we scheduled a D&C immediately. I had the D&C and ablation at the same time and I thought that would be that. But lab results indicated I had complex hyperplasia with focal atypia - in other words, precancerous cells in the endometrium. Hysterectomy was suggested.

I sought a specialist in an effort to avoid it, but all expert opinions were the same. Fortunately, an MRI and a blood test indicated that if there are cancerous cells, they have not spread. I am scheduled for the surgery on February 6th, and it will be an abdominal hysterectomy because they want to remove the uterus whole and not risk any cells entering the abdomen from a laparoscopic procedure.

Then we wait for pathology. If I do have cancerous cells but they are Stage 1 level A or B, the hysterectomy ought to be sufficient. If there is anything more than that, I will need to go back in to have my ovaries removed and all lymph nodes in the area removed.

Anyway, if you have any positive thoughts to spare I would appreciate it. This is a surgery I wanted to avoid at all costs, but the possible cost of my life is too high, so I will do what I need to do. I have three young children at home and cannot risk anything more serious (cancer). If anyone has been through anything similar, I would love to hear your experiences. I am afraid and apprehensive, but hopeful that the one surgery is all I will need (I really don't want to be thrown into menopause full-force at 42).
