I think I'm going to take it to work tomorrow and ask my boss. We have a professional dress code which is why I can't put pink streaks in my hair. I need the headbands because my bangs aren't grown out enough to be pulled back and they fall in my face which is super annoying during exams. I've been rotating the same three hairbands for months and I'm kind of sick of them.

Anna, the only time I have worn a headband is when I was in Thailand and the humidity was making my hair weird. I only wish that I had been able to find ones such as these:)

With respect to your question, I am not sure cross and skull bones would bother me. I would just view it as your personal expression. But I realise that patients are often in varying states of emotion (and I say this not knowing exactly what you do and what kindof patient contact you have) so it could be read as insensitive.

One of our sports teams has a skull and crossbones as part of it's logo so sometimes people wear caps and whatnot with that, and I haven't heard anyone complain. If you work in the OR, wouldn't it basically be covered by your hat for your patient interactions anyway?

I love the the skull & crossbones but I personally definitely would not put that on until you leave the hospital. As Laurinda said, in the hospital setting, you are likely to be seen by people who might be adversely affected by such motifs. But en route to work and after work? Absolutely!

Having lost someone in a hospital I would have been quite upset to see a staffer wearing a skull motif. There are many people facing the most difficult scenarios, and fashion should not trump sensitivity. Glitter, smiley faces, dancing puppies, etc. would be fine. Skulls and crossbones cross a line for hospital work.

I think older patients might not really get the skull&crossbones? I would say it's safer not to. Love those Ficcare clips!

If it were a motif on scrubs (which would never happen), I think I would be bothered. As a headband, since you are rather taller than I, I'm not sure the design would register unless you were bending down over me. Even then, with my bad eyesight it might not register. Personally, I am more offended by smiley faces.

Love the peacock one! I think the skull and crossbones would be OK...it is a pretty mainstream motif nowadays and I think of it as edgy but not morbid. Along the same line as studs, the skull has some "toughness" to it but as an accent I don't find it unprofessional.

Very fun for keeping the hair back. For the life of me I cannot get a band to stay on my head.
On the skulls - what type of work do you do?

Re: skull and crossbones: depends what your line of work is...do your coworkers have a good sense of humor and/or would your patients be offended or notice? As an Oncology nurse, that wold not be considered appropriate for me to wear to the hospital....no matter what my sense of humor or fashion sense is. I do like the headband, though!

I got a bunch of new headbands for work. Black with gold skull & crossbones, peacock, pewter glitter, pink leopard & grey leopard. Would the skull & crossbones be too morbid for work? Also not pictured black Ficcare hair clip.
