I haven't ordered from them a lot of t lately but it always used to be my experience that the shoe brands they carried were better quality than the clothing.

I look at the Anthro site frequently and see lots of interesting stuff. I hate paying for shipping, though, so I never order from them. My recent experience where I bought nine pairs of sandals and returned six pairs shows how much I return. It's not that I live in a retail desert, because we do have Macy's and Dillards, but the selection isn't great. I have the pewter boots that unfrumped shows, and I really like them. I bought them from Zappo's. I love Zappo's. If I order today, I will get it tomorrow. They have almost too much, though. If I click on sandals, they over 12,000 pairs.

I just got these from Anthro and I'm happy with them. I've had some success with shoes from them -- no more or less than any other online retailer. The stores near me have nothing in the way of footwear so I can only order from them online. They carry a variety of makers, so fit is all over the place, but they tend to carry brands that have a good level of quality.

I love Anthro and shop there regularly, but rarely their shoe selection. I wear a specialty size that isn't carried in most stores, so I'm used to ordering online, but Anthro doesn't even carry the full size range of many brands (e.g. Chie Mihara goes down to a size 35 but they only carry down to size 36).

That said, I have bought a few pairs of shoes from them in the past, including a pair of black Western heeled booties that I wear regularly. They were an in-store return on sale that I just happened across, and great quality (plus comfortable, always a must).

My local Anthro (Portland, OR) just reopened after an extensive remodel. It is gorgeous and it has a very large shoe selection. I actually had to stop and just take it all in! They carry many brands there that can be found on Zappos & Nordstrom but some are more elusive. I think the thing that would hold me up the most is their lack of free shipping and returns--especially if you need to try more than one size. That's great if you can get free shipping/returns if you order from the store directly. Reviews can be helpful but ultimately I think there can be so many subtleties in foot shape and shoe construction that you really just need to try a few on.

I have had some good hits and have also returned a high % just because I can never tell about shoes. I prefer being able to try on multiple sizes easily, and as you say, on comfort it may only take a nanosecond-tryon to know this shoe is not for me, so then that's a hassle.

They clearly carry some styles that could work very well for me and that I don't encounter elsewhere. Shipping is a pain, though my local store will let me order in-store for free, and then of course returns are free.

I still plan to browse their selections from time to time, trying to use a focus, specific footwear need. Fun flats or low booties especially.

Have any of you tried footwear from Anthropologie? I see a lot to love but have not experimented because they look like they might be not all that comfortable, especially for the price point. One of my local stores said they only carry shoes (except returns) in the larger cities like NYC and LA so nothing near me. Would love to hear of any experiences you've had. ( I know I could order online and return to a store. )
