A bit more trendy than I thought I was: Very maximal. No such thing as too many accessories or too many scarves. Lots of texture and pattern mixing. '80s: One ruffled blouse (below), but I went all out. Those ruffles are HUGE on me! One pair of acid washed high rise jeans; also have a few others not shown. I have been waiting years for the secure feeling of high rises/pants that don't slide down. Also love big shoulders since I am slightly narrow shouldered. '90s: Lots of lug soles and chunky black footwear. See below. My right toe doesn't bend, so uber chunky is best for me. And okay, I get a kick out of my Jeffrey Campbell fog boots because they are so silly. One jumpsuit. Utility jacket that I bought as a $20 souvenir at the Talbots Outlet store near the hotel where we were staying; two months later and it is $49 (from $129) on the Talbots web site. You will not see me in beige or mustard unless a costume party requires me to look like Death Warmed Over. Also, no shorts although I own a single pair in case I need to be so active that a skirt or dress won't do. YES - Love these trends: Individualism - I have a certain consistency in how I dress and look, to the extent that I have friends sending me pictures / emails when they see something that they this is so me. Maximalism - my style is maximal - as a child of the 80's I make no apology for that! Explosion of pattern - I am more of a solids with one pattern BUT, I am onto this because of leopard which I treat as a neutral and wear it with everything like it is my second skin. 80's & 90's - soo into these, even bought a red leopard slip dress! Jumpsuit jive - I have 6 jumpsuits and am not allowed to even look at any more as I love them. High rises - love the high rise jeans. Midi mania - most new dresses and skirts have been midis and loving the extra length. Playful suiting - YES - this has been the focus of my most recent suit purchases for work. Structure / No Structure - lots of structure for me. Only one very oversized blazer added and then I wear it belted to add structure! Utility - bought a unisex casual rain jacket from Onituska Tiger (Japan) and love it. My son also looks cute in it too! Earth tones - Leopard is a big YES Turquoise and bright green - added lots of turquoise which is a favourite colour Every style of footwear - embraced sneakers in a big way since going to Japan and not been so reliant on boots, varying my shoes and adding coloured pumps Irregular outfit juxtaposition - sneakers and sequins probably makes this one a yes too. NOOOO! That is just not me: A billion shades of beige - almost all beige has been edited out of my wardrobe, only one beautiful coat remains. Acid wash - NEVER wore it in the 80's and not about to start now. Denim on denim on denim - I can wear two denims together, but have not got to 3. Wide cropped pants - not found any that work on me. Roomy full length pants - not there yet. I am not afraid to do multiple denim and plan to this fall when a denim jacket is not too warm. I am also planning to do more plaids than usual, wear sneakers with everything. Beige - I would love to add some beige to my wardrobe but I was on a shopping fast.  I do have some in my wardrobe. 80's & 90's - Fringe (I thought that was 70s), Flares, Graphic Tees, Oversized Sunnies.  Combat Boots, Palazzo Pants, Lug Soles, Wide Legged Pants with Flats. High Rises - I have embraced this trend and I am hoping to add more high rise pants to my wardrobe. Structure - Yes!  I finally realized that I need structure.  Forget the flowy tops.  Definitely showcasing the waist. Denim on Denim on Denim - Well, I always did this.  Yesterday, I wore a faded denim shirt and dark denim cropped jeans. Utility - I have always loved this look.  I always have Cargo pants and a Chore/Utility Jacket in my Summer Wardrobe. Wide Cropped Pants - Of course.  :) Roomy Full-Length Pants - I will if I see them. Mustard, Earth Tones, Orange and Coral - Always. Hints of Turquoise and Bright Green - I am on the fence about turquoise.  I do have some turquoise jewellery that I have considered wearing recently.  Does that count? Footwear - Birks and more Birks.  I don't have a choice in the footwear department. DD came upstairs yesterday and if you swapped out the brand labels and gave her a perm it would have been EXACTLY was I was wearing at 19: Chambray striped shirt, denim mini skirt, tennis shoes with gold eye catching earrings and a scrunchy at her wrist. Looking over the list I see that trends really do influence my thrifting. I have picked up patterns, including chain pattern, a slip dress, and of course trendy shorts (although they were part of my style before they were specifically trendy). No acid wash for me so far - I have a sort of environmental ick factor but truthfully I never loved the look. (Of course now I will inevitably find a pair I like.) Jumpsuit, suit, check. Shoes - well I am an omnivore there.
