I was at Nordstroms at King of Prussia ( just outside Philadelphia) yesterday and I was dazzled with fresh, beautiful things for spring. I would never say their buyers have lost their edge. This particular store is, or course, in one of the biggest malls in the country and they are competing with Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales--and I would say they are winning.

I haven't been to a Nordies store in a long time so I can only judge by the website. I noticed a definite upward trend recently. They are listing a lot of high end designers they didn't carry before (at least online). I don't know about edge, though.

Our store has actually become much edgier. The website seems to carry a variety - I never thought of Nordstrom as cutting edge so I guess I'm not sure if it's changed.

I never viewed them as particularly edgy to begin with, although I did find my UWP boots and my leather vest there. Even when I was very young, they came off very mainstream.

I guess this really depends on how you define edge, Anna?

I only picked up one item (a green blazer) during my last trip to Nordstrom. I could have walked out with a bag full from BR or JCrew recently. I think I go up and down with which store is my "go to" for a season or two.

I have to say that much of what I saw last time i was in (January) was not lacking an edge but everything seemed so similar. It could be that all the sources just happened to do a lot of same looks but since Nordstrom does so much private label, I was a bit surprised at the lack of differentation.
I have faith that it was a seasonal thing - yesterday I was in Macy's/JCP and a fairly large mall and nothing looked particularly stand out. Could be my mood lol.

I really think it depends on what city you live in and what sells. Essentially buyers will look over on what items are selling best and it maybe not items that are edgy or trendy. I have to say that when I lived in MN, I hardly ever bought clothes from Nordstroms because I found it to be so boring. When I moved to different state, it seemed like people here like trendier styles and more fun fashions so it really varies in my opinion

Hmm, I haven't noticed a big difference lately. However, the big difference I see is what's stocked in different store locations. The Nordstrom nearest where I live (Annapolis) is smaller and more conservative than others that are just under an hour's drive away nearer to Baltimore or DC.

Admittedly except for some underwear purchases I haven't been in a store recently. Mostly I shop in Via C and Savvy. But last season and so far into this season I haven't seen a lot of pieces that have wowed me. I find myself trolling other websites more often. I see trends in other stores much earlier than when they come into Nordstrom.
