I hope you post a WIW once it is done, the pattern and pins look great. I like your idea of a softer fabric, too. Good luck!

Sewing skirts is often very rewarding, and I think you have found a great pattern here. I am very drawn to this idea myself - a wider skirt in a chambray sounds terrific for summer. Another option could be a linen fabric, that would look great, too. Thanks for sharing this idea!

Great idea to get what you want! I think a softer drapey fabric would be perfect.

Great skirt! I find I do much better in reducing the appearance of bulk by using an A-line instead of a box pleat. But, I love this silhouette and just might copy you. I am in the hunt for the "perfect" summer dress pattern - but have yet to come across it. I might have to design my own (based off an existing dress) but this might be more ambitious than I'm ready to tackle.

It is a beautiful pattern, Beth! I especially like the waist detailing on that pinned outfit, #3. You are absolutely right, finding the right length can me a nightmare. I have been seeing a lot of full skirts/dresses for spring that are about mid-thigh. Looking forward to see the finished result!

Thanks for the replies!

Raisin: My mom and her best friend taught me how to sew. My mom is still very active (although not really nearby) and she helps me through the bits I've forgotten. I've found a lot of new sewing inspiration on the web recently. How wonderful that your Grandmother shared her knowledge with you! It's a precious memory, even if you're not currently sewing!

PIL -- I'd love to have a serger! I'm afraid is a zig-zag stitch or seam tape for me!

Sarah: Sewing sisters! You're right -- the right waistline is key to figure flattery here.

Diane: Thanks for the tip! You're right that it's easy to control the amount of fullness in the inverted pleat by the length of the stitching! This is also one reason for choosing softer yard goods!

Suz, Carole, Tina and MM: I'll definitely post my finished product this spring. I will warn you, I usually cry at some point in the process and decide I'm hopeless!

Gorgeous pattern Beth Ann, and a great solution to finding perfect skirt length. I struggle with that too, it is even tougher than PPL. Look forward to your WIW!

As a fellow sewist, I know its great to get clothes just how you like them. That pattern looks good to me and you would have the option of stitching the folds down a little further if you wanted to reduce fullnes on the high hip. I love Vogue patterns and that one would be perfect in a lightweight chambray. Be sure to do a WIW when its done!

Lovely silhouette, Beth Ann. You need to get on the ball so I can see how they turn out! Then maybe I can copy you : )

I've been kicking around the idea of making a skirt too, but first need to figure out how to use the serger inherited from my MIL. I've never had good luck finishing seams with my sewing machine.

What a great idea! The pattern looks like a perfect match to the skirts you pinned. I have such a stuggle finding long enough lengths, too, perhaps I should try sewing, again. I hope you will keep us posted on your progress. You are a clever and very talented gal!

I think it is great. Although I have a hard time feeling figure flattery in this style, sewing your own will be the best as you can really make it sit just right at your narrowest waist point. I have within the last two weeks actually bought yardage, three patterns and dusted off my sewing machine to get what I want too! Great minds

I've been pinning lovely fuller skirts for spring. As Angie noted in a recent post, it is so hard to find good length in skirts, and it's critical in a fuller shape, in my opinion. I'm planning on sewing the skirt to make the length just perfect, and I am looking for a little softer, drapier chambray fabric. Although I love the stiffer looks in my pinterest pins, I think the drape will fit my more casual spring/summer lifestyle and would probably offer more figure flattery.

Am I on the right track here?

Note: I also plan on making a couple of simple knit dresses, as well. I'm so tired of wrong lengths, and these would be simple construction and reasonable cost to sew.
