This may not be the type of book you mean, but I've been reading _Staging Your Comeback_ by Christopher Hopkins. It's amazing how even after 60 years it's still hard to be objective about yourself. That's why we need Angie and this forum.
Using the questions and examples, I'm facing that I'm mostly a Classic who wants that type clothing with a twist so it isn't boring or predictable. So my "shadow profile" is Innovative. I'm actually most comfortable in a great suit with an interesting scarf, but my lifestyle is such that I really don't wear a suit more than a couple times a year.

The shadow profile I need is Casual (so Classic with casual elements). I desperately need to get comfortable with casual and smart casual. I suppose the book is influencing me in helping define where I'm at and where I want to be. I consistantly fill my closet with clothing that is too dressy for what I actually need to wear on a daily basis, then have nothing appropriate to wear.

I can't say that a character in a book ever inspired me to dress a certain way or buy any particular article of clothing. I'm more of a visual person...All the 80's Molly Ringwald movies affected my choices back in highschool....that's about as close as it gets.

Good topic!

I got this book about the fashion/style of Audrey Hepburn as a birthday gift a few years ago. Somewhere in there, there was a list of items that Audrey always had in her closet, so I took that list and ran with it. Of course I did not have a body like hers (does anyone?), but I was straight and boyish at the time so it seemed to work, and also introduced me to my obsession with ballet flats. It also gave me a pretty good wardrobe of basics, which I didn't really have yet.

I learned a lot from that book...less about fashion and more about style, and how her elegance really did come from within.

Nicoles recent thread on reading sparked this question in my mind. Have books influenced your style? When I was a child I loved Little house on the prairie (I have never seen the TV show, but the books really turned me into the bookworm I have been even since). They affected the way I dressed; I refused to wear jeans until I was nine, wore hats to avoid getting tanned (before this was recommended behaviour) and tried to execute bizarre mid 19C hair styles that I had read about.
Some of the fashions of the time (early 80's) fitted quite well into this obsession of mine - particularly those inspired by (as she then was) Lady Di.
