I am trying to proceed wisely, so thank you for saying that, Janet. <3

It's funny you're sharing this. I'm also feeling more structure, sculptural, and solid colors. Maybe it's the season? I am knitting a scarf to add some pop and sizzle. Though, it's possible I could end up adding back a patterned kimono or something.

I like your idea to keep a few patterned blouses should you want to return to them. The ones you kept are really lovely colors and prints! :D

It sounds like you are having a shift, and proceeding wisely without impulse!

I think Lise is onto something that I relate with — I’ve been passing over my patterned blouses this winter. Part of it is that we have had an unusually cold winter here and knits feel more cozy, but it’s also a mood thing for me — I’m not feeling my patterned blouses that were such a mainstay a few years ago.

Lately I’m feeling more structure and solid colors — a pull towards simpler but maybe more interest in the form of sculptural, structural details rather than prints, at least in tops. If I want a little splash of pattern, I tend to throw on a scarf.

I let go of a few patterned blouses that had fit issues or were fussy in some sort of way, but I’m keeping some that I particularly like, especially if they may come back into favor with warmer spring weather.

Suz, thank you so much! Def keeping the blouses in a holding zone for a while. I’m not ready to let go of boho. Just… exploring a different side of it maybe? Or perhaps my style is evolving. I don’t foresee myself never wearing boho again. But also feeling like I want to shift more into the late 70s and the 80s. Still sensual but a bit more sculptured maybe?? I will be posting outfits for feedback, as I acquire and try things. So I’ll keep you posted!

Goldenpig, def going to save my boho blouses for now! I could see myself craving them one day down the road for sure! The burgundy with the roses… I love the color and print so much. But ya know, it’s not my favorite to wear. The fabric is a bit stiffer or more substantial and I just didn’t like wearing it sadly.

Lisa, oh that’s such an intuitive smart move!! I am like you, I tend to not like volume on top and bottom. I only like volume on one half. I’m exited to see your summer outfits as always!! I think you in a wide leg summer pant will be dynamite!

Lise, ooo!! Yes! That’s a great point. I love florals but I am starting to see that maybe I’m just oversaturated and needing a floral chiffon break. And yes! I am loving rocker vibes, which is def boho adjacent. Thank you for reminding me of that. I think I just am craving variety and newness after wearing much the same with hardly any variance. And then too, a new season of life is converging with a new style. Also—I should maybe consider making empire waist a “no buy” too. That’s a great idea. I too remember all the empire waistlines in 2005-2009 or so. They are rarely good on me either, and I’m more of an hourglass with some pear tendencies. I hope you find some new pattern tops you love!! I’m feeling over ditsy prints too.

Dee, oh yes! I’m putting it all into a holding zone for now. I’ll sort later after I experiment some more. I don’t think I’m truly over them. More just needing a break.

ChristelJ, oh how funny! You are returning to boho just as I take a break ha! Thanks for your encouraging words. I do want to feel revitalized. I went through a long 10 year health season. I’m now in a new season and so a new style just feels exciting and refreshing.
But I’ll probably come back to boho so def saving some tops in a holding box. I don’t see gobs of empire cuts but I do come across them. Maybe you’ll find some this year? <3 when a cut is good for you, you gotta milk it!

Robin, oh thank you so much! I’m hoping the new looks work out in reality. We will see. And yes, I too find it funny how we can suddenly go off something we once loved. Seems like a lot of us in this post are taking a break from florals and/or boho.

Cat2, yes, I’m saving them for now! I have some really beautiful blouses I can’t easily replace. So for now, saving them.

Carol, that’s a good question! I think my vibe is sort of changing. Some of my floral boho blouses remind me of my 2010s hipster days. They aren’t the same clothes from that season but same feel. I think my vibe is maybe… unearthing? I’m still me and will always be me and have a boho quality. But I find myself wanting 70s and 80s, some rocker vibe, and a bit of sleekness and power even. It’s a bit slouchy AND tailored. Late 70s bleeding into early 80s. I also have a couple of outfits I’m wanting to try that feel like— Charles Bronson’s architect character from Death Wish. (Hang with me—not saying the whole movie lol) His wardrobe and presence was sooooo powerful and sophisticated in first few scenes of DW. Perfectly tailored pants, soft almost sensual sweater, chic oversized glasses. So I am wanting to transfer that outfit and feel into my own feminine version of it. If that makes sense? Along with some Bruce rocker vibes. And drapey things. Great idea for paisley! I will keep an eye out for it

Carla, that’s so helpful to hear! I think we all get a bit of the winter doldrums and spring fever in Feb and Mar. I for sure do. I will say this shift has been growing under the surface since last autumn. And it keeps growing. Definitely going to use a holding zone so I don’t make any regrettable edits.

Slim cat, oh thank you! I’m excited too. And… I’m really feeling rock n roll vibes myself. So that’s so great to know we are rocking together with graphic tees and more! :D

Jenni, oh I love that you associate boho with me :’) (smiley with a tear) I really love boho. I don’t think I’m forever leaving it. For now all the boho tops are going in a holding zone. I suspect I will return to bobo blouses at some point. Boho is my thing. Being a mood dresser, I think wearing nothing but boho for the least couple years oversaturated me. Kind of like eating one’s favorite food over and over again makes it less special and less favorite? I need something else in rotation to cleanse my palate and excite me again, maybe. I’m feeling more 80s in a way. And rocker vibes. It could all flop! So we’ll see. :}

Jaime, thank you for your wisdom and grace <3 I’m def staying open to boho again. I think I got a bit burned out or oversaturated? But I really can’t see myself never wearing it again.

Cookie and Brooklyn, that is a really good point! I think I have always associated boho with chiffon floral blouses. Thank you for that! Brooklyn, you are such a style inspo to me (not to sound weird, hopefully I don’t), and you def are boho without chiffon blouses. So I will take some more inspiration from you!

So sorry to just reply. We have been so sick this winter, on top of winter basketball, a birthday trip for Hubs and all the things.

Anyhoots…

Yes and yes. Definitely keeping items in a holding zone.

Sal, that is helpful to hear about your own editing process. And yes!! I am just really digging Bruce these days. I enjoy his music anyway. His style though is speaking to me-which is surprising.

Kellygirl, oh how funny!! We are trading boho places haha! Thank you for your encouragement and excitement. I’m excited too!

Jules, that’s reassuring to hear. I imagine at some point I will come back to some kind of boho blouse. But like you, I’m feeling a slightly different vibe. PS I like your menswear inspired looks. They’re very fun!

LJP, ooooo!! Yes! I too did the chiffon blouse with jeans and boots for dressing up. Isn’t that funny how that was *the* outfit for dressing up? I feel I’m mostly moving on too.

Angie, thank you so dearly for sharing your experiences—and your wisdom. I am definitely following my feelings. I am really feeling late 70s and early to mid 80s. And it feels so exciting snd “uuum” down inside me. So I’m going for it. That said, leaving boho feels like some kind of self betrayal? Your pearl experience is how I’m thinking this will go. Eventually I’ll want boho blouses again and will wear them as if I had never parted from them. But for now… I’m kind of grooving on something else. Have to see if I fly or flop ha! I also think some of my aversion to boho is because I haven’t diversified my wardrobe enough the last couple years. I jind if just shifted into boho. When I started buying the rock band sweatshirts and loving them so so much, that’s when I realized I needed a break from boho.

Great advice here already. I'm with others to keep the good fitting tops in a holding zone in case your style shifts back to boho. You can always edit them out later. Poor fitting one's can be edited out now.

I've edited out my boho style tops for spring and summer this year. I'm more interested in layerable tops for the upcoming season which boho with it's big volume sleeves and more floaty styles don't do well. I can always add new tops to my wardrobe in the future if I fancy wearing that style again!

It's nice that your style is evolving. But maybe instead of ditching all of them, put some in a holding zone in case you change your mind! I love florals and pretty blouses. I would totally wear that burgundy one with the orange roses!

Ket, you seem like me in that I get tired of something, or don't even like it, and people say: "that looks so great on you."
I do associate these shirts with you, and I do think they look good on you. But if they don't feel right, move on!
The ones you are keeping read a little sleeker to me. Do you think your actual vibe is changing? Like Bruce Springsteen tee is a far cry from these. And the new ones you picked out seem more 70s.

I do still like these kinds of blouses, but don't wear them often. I do not like the ones made of cheap, snaggy material.
How about that paisley? That looks like one to keep--reads rocker as well as boho.

I think the drapy and wrapped blouses would look fantastic on you. Also deep scoop and v necks in solids. And I get the need for big change every so often to feel revitalized. Can’t wait to see what happens with your wardrobe! But maybe keep some of your boho florals just in case! Holding zones can be treasure troves one day.

I am going opposite from you right now, having realized recently that what I love to wear most of all is still boho floral! And giving myself permission to, even if that is what I have worn for years and years. Also I find it interesting folks’ thoughts on empire waists because that is one of my best cuts, and I am on the lookout for them but rarely see them anymore.

Yes, I agree with others that maybe you should hang onto a few of your favorite boho items, because occasionally I've been surprised when a few items in my holding zone that I thought I was done with suddenly feel rather fresh and fun to wear again.

My two cents :). Maybe you not feeling florals right now? Also chiffon and florals often go hand in hand. I personally think the split neck luxe burgundy moody floral with the orange roses from ON is you now though, because another deduction from your other thread, and the Bruce inspo, is that maybe you feeling more Rock Glam right now, a close cousin of Boho. In which case this moody luxe floral fits right in.

As for empire waists, they are on my no buy list. They don't do me any favours. Remember when they were everywhere in retail, circa 2008 I think. I bought way too many thinking they were good camo for my apple shape, and a number of people assumed I was pregnant! I obvs still see them in thrift shops and steer clear.

As for patterns and me, I was always into patterns and went right off them in recent years. I'm just starting to warm up to them again, but very specific Indian print type patterns only/mostly. I have donated all my ditsy florals, except one unusual top that is not typical ditsy and is a fabulous bright green. I haven't worn it for a few years but plan to this summer. It is too unusual to replace.

I agree with Cookie - there are lots of other ways to do Bohemian. I don’t wear chiffon but I’m also Bohemian at heart And I also agree with Angie - put aside those that fit well and pass on those that don’t.

There are a lot of other ways to dress boho if you are not feeling the floaty chiffon blouses right now. (And I am soooo with you on empire waists.) I love the scoop-neck and wrap tops you highlighted. And Bruce of course.

I am nodding along with Angie and Jenni regarding your keeping the ones that still fit and you might return to later. Although of course I cannot fault you for choosing Bruce as your unexpected style icon. Go with what you want to wear now, but be open to a change of heart in short.

Well of course I support doing what makes you happy… but confess this worries me a little, as I think of boho as quintessentially Ket? You even say in this post “I am boho in my heart forever”?
I agree with Angie to get rid of the ill-fitting ones, but wonder about keeping those that fit well aside as your mood might change and you might miss them? I have just been spending an hour or so with my clothing data musing (feel a post coming on about how long it takes to tire of my clothes) and am pleased it takes longer now than pre-YLF: ergo, choosing better.

I'm keeping couple blouses from lucky Brand - flow-y, bohemian with a bit too much volume for now ( I donated couple other ones ). I'm back to my favorite graphic tops with rock and roll feelings . Sometimes it just feels right to move to other direction.
I love your style direction - excited to see new remixed outfits!

This time of the year I always feel disenchanted with my closet - but it’s usually just a passing phase during the hardest part of a hard month (February). I usually refrain from editing my closet or shopping - since it’s a ‘mood’ thing, and I’m not likely to be thinking clearly!

Ket, I fully support following your feelings! If moving on from boho tops feels dead right on this stage of your style journey - go for it! It's interesting how we can be off our signature style almost overnight and want something else. Style is sooooo emotional! Looks like you're on more of an '80s streak.

My suggestion is to pass on the tops that are ill-fitting in some way. But keep some of the ones that fit well! (You mentioned you're keeping some solids and the animal print - YES!). As wise Jules said - we often come back to the look later. I suspect you will reach for those again at some point ;)

I went off my signature white pearls for two years about 12 years ago. It made every friend and client question my sanity! Where did I go??? It was completely illogical - yet those were my emotions. I felt like being more strict and minimalist with my style. It didn't last! I woke up one day, put my pretty pearls back on, and that was that ;)

I too considered them part of my wardrobe about a decade ago . I have let go of all of them at this point . A chiffon - y printed top used to be my dress-up outfit with jeans and boots but I’ve moved on from that look . Chiffon fabrics can look cheap pretty quickly if the construction is sub-par .

I understand, these were once a staple for me too and now... just aren't. I regretted just a bit when I went to see Stevie Nicks last fall. I'm less into feminine in general and more into more gender neutral, stripes, menswear patterns. But, if I know myself, I'll change again and then again before I'm done

I am a bit over boho or patterned tops at the moment too. I edited out a couple over the last two years, and only have the find below now. I do wear it and since I love the colours I plan to keep it.

And Bruce is such an icon that I support following his style! I have been a fan since 1985 when I (like everyone else at the time) wanted to be Courtney Cox on stage dancing with him. I then went backwards into the archive and know all the earlier music too.

Angie got me thinking with her tall boots post, then Janet got me thinking with her skinny jean post.

I find myself not loving or wanting to keep most of my chiffon or boho blouses. At all.

Some are newly purchased last autumn. The issues range from:

Too large fitting now, they almost look and feel sloppy on me

Too hastily tried on and they fit a bit snug around the bottom hem

Good colors for me but the look and fit feels "blah" on me when I style them

Baby-doll empire waistline, tunic length which works when I'm a smaller busted, but right now feels weird no matter how I style them, even with a minimizer bra (empire in general is usually a tough line for me to wear)

I really find myself feeling frumpy or dated in many of these, to the point I don't like wearing them or making outfits with them. Not because they are or aren't actually dated, but they just feel dated. I have worn chiffon blouses and boho blouses for 15 years. I find myself desiring to move on, even though I am boho in my heart forever.

For now, I'm keeping both high-neck plum versions, the cream with eyelet yoke detail, sheer black, and leopard print. Everything else is going into a holding zone. It leaves me with very few tops to wear, but I hardly ever pull these out to wear anyway.

I want to try adding back some deep scoop and deep v-neck tees (a la Bruce), along with a wrap blouse and this really lovely drapey blouse I found. I might add a pussy bow blouse if I find the right one. (The copper one I currently own just doesn't have enough va-voom to the bow and style to make me happy.) Also maybe looking to sew/knit/buy some slouchy-yet-tailored sweaters for the winter.

Anyone else over chiffon blouses and boho blouses?
