Yes, look for berets! They are often small, even in the grown-ups' department.

This is all great advice. Lots of support for slouchy berets and beanies. I like the idea that they mess up your hair the least too-- pixies can go from chic to totally ruffled and tragic after wearing a hat for just a few minutes if it squishes your head too much.

Angie, I hadn't thought of the children's department, but that's a great idea. I wear a children's bike helmet and it fits perfect.

I'll update when I find my hat!

Another small head here, but without the pixie cut, and I agree 100% with the others about slouchy berets -- they are kind of magic, IMHO. I wear mine back on my head a little bit to leave my bangs showing beneath (some of my WIWs from last winter will show this). My favorite by far is a black cashmere one from Portolano, but I also have them in blue, cream, grey, and a metallic synthetic knit that is not as soft but is fun for a change when I want something festive. They are great for warmth and portability (can cram it in my bag if I get warm), and miraculously don't give me hat-head when I remove them. I've had success finding this style at Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor in particular.

Shop in the childrens dept. Berets are my favourite.

That's me too. Short and hair and small head. I finally have my solution , after years of avoiding hats (which is so dumb in my part of the country) . Like LaPed says, a slouchy beret with a bit of stretch (this is key I've discovered) in the band pulled down over the ears but still back a bit on the head allows some of my hair to show. I have longer bangs, and having them show beneath the hat is important. Berets also seem to do the least amount of damage to your "do. I also wore a pompom toque yesterday in full-on blowing snow and it was surprisingly cute and functional although my hair was trashed when I took it off. As long as there is some bang or wisps around the side, you can wear hats well!

Look at some of La Ped's WIWs - she rocks the hat/pixie combo. I have been trying to figure out the same thing, and I think it is pushing it back on your head.

If you are handy, you can run some elastic thread through the bottom edge of a knit beanie to tighten it up. Or it there is a grosgrain ribbon liner, you can tuck some moleskin or foam tape inside that to tighten the fit.

As the weather turns I will watch this thread with interest.

I have a small head and a pixie cut, but I've let the bangs grow out a bit this fall, so I'll have something sticking out from under my hats. I like slouchy beanies and berets that I can wear pushed back on my forehead, but still get some ear coverage when it's cold. If you don't knit, or know any knitters, you might check Etsy -- lots of sellers will do custom sizing and there's a good chance you'll find something you like. For newsies, fedoras, fisherman caps, etc, I'm a big fan of Brixton; Nordstrom usually has a selection of this brand. They go down to size XS and are excellent quality.

Hey y’all. Does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of winter hat looks best with a super short pixie? A lot of hats look odd on me because I have about an inch of hair and a small head. I’ve had some luck with knitted newsboy caps in the past, when I can get them small enough, but I haven’t seen anything that’s caught my eye yet.....

I usually avoid hats all together but we’re traveling to a cold, wet location in December and I want to look stylish AND be warm while we sightsee.

Thank you!
