I use distiller white vinegar in the rinse. When dried, their is no vinegar smell. I also use dryer balls for softening. To soften denim, I usually wash it several times and tumble it in a no heat dryer.

I agree with Diana. I used to work in the paper converting business and fabric softener is just plain nasty. It is animal fat, usually beef tallow. It kind of goes without saying that the incredibly intense scents associated with most fabric softeners are intended to overpower what it really smells like (again, nasty). This is the reason why a person can purchase "vegan fabric softener". I am not vegan, but I don't use fabric softener. It coats fabrics with oils/fats, it increases pilling (especially in soft cottons), and it can stain some fabrics.

I've heard vinegar acts as a natural fabric softener. Although the comments section on the Milsoft site says the product smells strongly of vinegar, so I'd be interested in what their formula is.

I've never heard of it, but in general I avoid liquid fabric softeners because they tend to leave icky residues (and smells, if you are sensitive to them the way I am) on your clothing. And this one being super concentrated makes me concerned that it would leave even more residue! I'd actually be worried that a concentrated one would leave stains too.

It came highly recommended in a post I read. I'm wondering if I could use it to soften a stiff denim jacket, without the whole dye bit.
