I recently heard about Like and have now shipped them 3 bags of things to sell. The first bag consisted of mostly low end Gap and Old Navy Tees and sweaters to test the system. They paid me a lot! So in the second bag I cleaned out a load of barely or never worn Talbot and Anthropologie items. They paid a smaller amount for this bag and rejected one item as "altered" (it had never been worn let alone altered). I tried one more time last week, this time sending among other items a pair of never worn suede tall boots from Nordstrom, and a once used Fossil cross body bag. Just received the offer which was even less than they paid for Gap T shirts. So, I am done with them. The lure, I think, is the ease of filling up the bag and shipping it free rather than hauling stuff to a rude consignment shop or to Goodwill for a tax donation. Also having read reviews from their employees I am reluctant to support them any further. I'll support my local Goodwill instead, and curb my impulse shopping.

It's funny to see this thread resurrected and read my post from a year ago, because in the intervening time I've bought a lot from Twice, and sold a fair bit too. All in all, I think it's the best online resale option I've found, for my individual preferences. eBay can have real bargains but it's obnoxious to search and individual sellers can be so inconsistent. None of my stuff is high end so it's not worth it to me to spend the time to sell directly on eBay or try to use one of the other marketplaces which requires you to be online a lot and promote your items.

I have had the same experiences with selling that some of you have - some things that seemed fine to me were not accepted and the explanations are always terse. I suspect that it really depends on which employee opens your box and does the processing. I only send them items now that I'll be ok with not getting any money for, and if I do, then I consider it a bonus. In reality, anything I'm willing to send to Twice I'd also be ok with donating to the thrift store so it's a sunk cost either way. You can get your items back if you don't like their offer, but they charge a return shipping fee of I think five bucks.

Shopgirl, I've also ordered some things from them that seem to have shrunk. It is annoying - you think you're a size x in y brand so you order but it doesn't work. I've always found their measurements of items to be pretty accurate so I double check bust or waist before I order.

If you use the app, as opposed to the website, it divides everything up into categories including handbags and shoes (their newest categories).

They did change their return policy a few months ago; if you want to return something and get your money back on your credit card, they charge you five dollars for the cost of shipping the items back. If you take your refund in store credit, return shipping is free. I usually just get store credit since most of my orders are small, and use it for my next order. For someone who doesn't shop there often, though, that would be a bit annoying.

I have actually tried this little website and to be honest, I'm still not sure how I feel about it all...

I LOVE how the website is set up for the most part. A few things I would love to see added are an option to look at only items that are new with tags, I'd love to see an accessories tab, and I'd love to be able to look at only the new items added each day.

I have had 50/50 success with buying from them so far. I have gotten several blouses that were somehow really stretched out on the lower half of the blouse to the point that they looked like they were made for maternity instead but these are brands that are not known for making maternity items so I'm still trying to figure that out... (I've had a few items I got like this but I loved the overall make of them so much that I kept them and had them altered - ONLY TWO.) In addition, I've gotten several items that felt as though they must have been run through the laundry and shrunk in size and that was why someone else was selling them - because they no longer fit true to size. That is pretty frustrating to say the least. Yes, they do have the measurements listed but when a 4p always fits me at Ann Taylor Loft, then I don't expect to have to check that each time. So far, with every order I've made, I have returned at least half of the items for mostly tight fit and a few for being stretched out.

Overall, they have pretty great product - you just really need to be on top of your game and make sure you know what you're getting before you put it in that shopping cart and hit process order.

Selling to them was a completely different experience. I will try them one more time but I was not so impressed the first time around. The first time around, I sent all items that had been bought at major department stores and were of Ann Taylor / Banana Republic caliber. I sent an accessory from Ann Taylor that was new with tags and roughly $35 when I bought it (holiday sash) and they didn't even take it. Now it is gone and I can't even get any money out of it by possibly sending it to Thredup.com instead... (They are much bigger and thereby, much slower in their processing and they don't always give you as much money per item but they do take more items and they take accessories.) In addition to this, I sent in roughly 25 items and almost all were rejected with exception of four - either for unaccepted brand (one), or for "dated" (mind you, all of the items I sent were either items I had bought in the past two years or had seen on their site to begin with and expected they would be accepted). The ones that really got me the most were three different sleeveless dresses I had seen on their site not just the week before. One was a plaid dress from American Eagle, another was a holiday dress from Ann Taylor, and the third was Banana Republic - a white eyelet dress. All three of those were rejected and yet, the same ones were on the site. I take quite good care of my clothes so I'm not sure what happened there but I was a little frustrated with it to say the least.

I am going to try them one more time and we'll see how well it does the second time around... I do wish I had not sent so many items all at once. This time, I am just sending a few. I am also sending back a few items that are not considered "returnable" because I bought them on a 40% discount but the items themselves weren't on clearance per se so we will see if they get accepted.

I no longer live close to the really great consignment shops of Tennessee so this is my best bet at the moment... Hope that gives you a better idea.

I am so glad I found this forum. I am the first of my friends to use Twice so it was nice to read others who had a similar experience as myself. I just recently sent off a bag of nice designer brands to Twice (Patagonia, Ann Taylor to name a few). The majority of the clothing was new and may be worn once. I was not looking to make a ton of money but the offer was very low. I took the offer because I did not want the hassle of reselling the items or donating to a community charity. What really shocked me was informing me a brand new tee had stains. I found that impossible. The tee had never been worn. It went from my closet, I clipped the tags, gave it a once over and packed it in their bag. I did sent their customer service an email questioning the stain. They agreed to take another look at the tee. All in all I think I will stay with donating my clothing to a community charity. I did not leave the Twice experience feeling great. I actually felt somewhat taken advantage of. But what the heck, live and learn. I do feel they have a good system in place for mailing items and their customer service has been quick to respond to my questions.

I used TWice after Laura recommended them. They accepted items I good condition from Ann Taylor and Gap but paid me $3 apiece which I was happy with the amount given that these items were in donation bag. I sent them much newer Paige jeans and JCrew items and they rejected them for very trivial reasons which I felt were not accurate.

Disappointed in the payouts and rejections. It seems they find stains where there are none. I have send into them three times so far and each time the per-item payout is less and less, and this includes items that are new with tags. As at Buffalo Exchange, you're encouraged to redeem any credit on the site as they incent you with an additional percentage to spend your money purchasing items from the site.
It's very easy and convenient but I am thinking I may have to go back to local consignment for better payouts.

I had one pair of Gap jeans not taken by Twice, I think because I'd let down the hem (they were trouser jeans). They've taken several other pairs of jeans from other brands, though. I haven't noticed that they reject jeans on any higher a basis than any other garment. And I've certainly bought jeans from them happily, too. The prices were in line with what they cite on their FAQs - somewhere around 10 bucks for a buyback, IIRC.

I am going to hazard a guess that jeans are an 'iffy' item for a lot of consignment shops, not because of condition, but because of sheer volume. Most consignment stores I go to - and even my local Goodwill - have racks and racks of them. I took a peek at GW the other day and was surprised to see how many pairs of jeans there were (5 long racks) - and a lot of them were 'higher end'. Although in truth, I don't really know a chic trendy jean from a dated pair. But a lot of the GW jeans looked like they were in great condition.

So maybe do a quick survey here:

1) How many of you had jeans that were accepted by Twice?
2) Was the offer worthwhile?

If they aren't really accepting jeans at a reasonable price, it may be better to eBay or take jeans in to a local shop - or give them to a good friend. Or donate and get a tax receipt.

I ended up getting about $26? for 4 items accepted out of 6. I never got the original email with the offer though. I got a final notice to accept. This was after emailing to find out what was going on. They are not great at communication, but the ease of stuffing a bag and sending it off for free is great for me and my no transportation situation.
They took a WHBM skirt, J crew skirt, and Loft skirt, and a Suzi Chin NWT dress. Did not take a Gap ikat tank that I'd removed the tag on. I put a note on it but I understand why they might not accept it. The other item was a white no name jacket, also no tag, so I get why it was not accepted. I'd have happily donated those items anyway, so no sweat off my back.

I recently tried them for the first time. I sent in 14 items, and they accepted 7 and rejected 7. The cash offer was $48. The store credit offer was $60, but for a “limited time” get an extra $14.40 in store credit.

The offer doesn't provide a breakdown of prices paid for each item, nor does it list color or pattern descriptors. I sent in 2 Splendid tops, and they accepted 1 and rejected 1, but no way to know which one they accepted.

Of the items they rejected, here were the reasons: staining, discoloration, overall wear. For maybe 3 of the items, I could maybe see staining or discoloration. However, for the other items, I know for certain they weren’t stained or discolored. One was a pair of Citizens of Humanity Ava straight leg jeans, which weren’t frayed or overly worn, so I think “overall wear” isn’t a fair reason for rejecting them. Possibly they were older than 5 years, or they just didn’t want to buy those CoH jeans. Other items rejected were two Lacoste polo tops, one for “staining” and the other for “overall wear.” Again, I know they weren't stained or overly worn, so it just seems they weren't interested in those items.

Their website lists estimated payout prices for each brand/item. Of the items they accepted, I was to have been offered a low of $38.50 to a high of $53, and my offer was $48.

The way I did it, I had them send me a pre-paid bag. I also tried USPS carrier pick-up for the first time, so I just packaged up the clothes in the bag and left it on my front doorstep the morning of the selected pickup day.

It was certainly nice not to have to get in my car and drive to the post office or to Goodwill. And of course, it was certainly easier than dealing with trying to sell these items myself via eBay or Buffalo Exchange, etc.

Baldwla, I've used them for both shopping and buying a lot since I wrote this post originally, and I've been happy. I can see where you're coming from, though - the higher-end brands seem to get an offer price that's a little lower than one might expect, as opposed to the mid-price brands which seem to be more reasonable. I found a pair of Diane von Furstenburg pants at the thrift store and wore them a couple times before deciding that they just weren't me. I sold them to Twice and I was a little surprised at the relatively low offer. I'd gotten them secondhand so it wasn't the end of the world for me, but if I'd bought them new I'd have been a little aggravated. Maybe that's because their bread and butter are the mid-price brands (Ann Taylor, Talbots, Gap, Nordstrom brands, that sort of thing)?

Anything that's a known brand and NWT is probably worth selling on ebay - NWT always sells more easily and for a higher price, from what I've observed.

I just used them. Sent in several items in which they took 7 including NEW Hudson jeans (retailed about $125) and other designer brands, 5 of which were new with tags and was offered $40 in cash. That equates to roughly $5.50 and item. I declined the offer. I own a children's consignment shop so I am well aware that I'm not going to make a killing on selling clothes but I expected more than what was offered.
I've never shopped for anything on the site so can't comment on the buying experience.

K, I'm glad to hear you've had good experiences with them too! Amanda, the reasons I was given for the items that they were rejected were pretty brief, usually a word or two only - some of the ones I remember were 'worn,' 'stain,' and I think 'alterations' - I think that was for one pair of pants I'd redone the hem of. Keep in mind these were all in quite good shape - I didn't send anything that looked visibly worn or falling apart, so they are looking quite closely at them. My 'acceptance rate' has been about two-thirds to three-quarters, though. Everything I've bought from them has been like new in condition, so that's apparently what they're looking for.

I've sold things and ordered from Twice for several months now. The only time I've had to return something is because it didn't fit. Overall, I've been happy with them!

I've been curious about them, so thanks for sharing your experience, Laura!

I saw on the FAQ page that they provide reasons why they passed on your items. For the rejected items, would you mind sharing their reasons? Just want to be aware (besides dated, non-accepted brand names) what not to bother sending in.

I am on a roll - I just got my second offer from them. They offered about the same range per garment and took most of the stuff, not all (the stuff they don't want they donate to Goodwill). One logistical tip I would give: if there's anything you would want back if they don't buy it from you, send it alone or with other items you'd also want to get back. You can reject the offer and have them send your items back for $5 shipping, but it's an all-or-nothing per shipment deal (but there's no limit on how many boxes/bags you can send).

This sounds really intriguing - I'm off to take a look. I have a lot of stuff that I need to donate or remove from my closet somehow, and it sounds like Twice makes it a little easier.

Laura, I signed up via your recommendation! I opted to have them send me a bag for my stuff because I didn't have any large boxes to use. Received the bag yesterday and I'm excited to fill it up and see what they offer me!

A update: i got my order from Twice, and everything was as described and in great shape. Several items are being returned because they weren't quite right but I did keep a couple things. It's very nice that they offer free return shipping as well. In fact, while I was at it I did another quick cull of my wardrobe and sent them another box of things that they will hopefully buy. From my experience so far, I would recommend Twice highly. In fact, I need to stop visiting the website so often because I've already placed another order for things I really like.

An update: they processed my items today and sent me an offer. Of the 31 pieces I sent (all on their approved brands list, and in good shape), they wanted to buy 27 of them, with an average payout of about $3.50 per piece. I accepted their offer and got the money in my paypal account right away (you can also opt for a paper check if you don't do paypal, or store credit). I'm really happy because this is all stuff that was going to the thrift store for nothing but a tax writeoff. I would definitely recommend trying this out if you own the brands that they are interested in, and don't have a consignment/resale option near you.

(Side note: I didn't really end up ahead financially because I was in a shopping mood this weekend and ordered a bunch of stuff from them! I'm presuming some of it will get returned because it won't fit or whatever, but we'll see.)

Well, I mailed off a (giant!) box full of items on their approved brands list yesterday, so hopefully they'll get it soon and I can share with you guys what they were interested in buying and how much they offer. Apparently if you opt for store credit you get a 25% bonus, but since this is my first time I might just opt for a paypal payout.

This sounds interesting. I agree the prices for sellers are about what I end up getting for mid-range brands at the consignment store. Would love to read your review of the selling process.
