I am super sensitive to wool but can tolerate the J. Crew merino for some reason.

As for sizing I find that I prefer different sizes in different J. Crew sweaters so online is a bit of a risk. You can call them and they will give you garment measurements. I have done that and compared to a similar garment I already own to make a decision.

Thank God JCrew doesn't do boobs or butts because I wouldn't have a THING that fit my straight little boy bod.

Their merino is really soft and nice, and I live in those long-sleeved cashmere tees in winter. I wish I could fully embrace the merino but I swear it still makes me itch. But I'm really sensitive! If you are not, then they will certainly work for you.

no help for the sweater, but J Crew also does not believe in butts!

I love the quality but I never wear my Tippi because it makes my torso look oddly blocky. 30Dish here, long torso, wide shoulders. It just doesn't hang right on me but it's a great sweater - If it fits you right it's a wonderful piece. A size up might be better on me I suppose, but I think really crew necks just don't work on me.

Gaylene, higher armholes would be good for me. I do have the problem of armholes being too deep a lot (super short torso here), and it's good to hear that it allows for sizing up. I'm fairly certain I'd need a Large to get the hips to even have a chance of fitting.

I wear the Cashmere tipis and the merino turtlenecks from J.Crew. And other cashmere and merino styles too. I love all my J.Crew knitwear. No itch so far. And I love the straight fluid cut.

Well, the merino Tippis are my winter T-shirts. They are a thinner knit which makes them easy to layer under jackets. I've found that the V-necks are a slightly heavier gauge, but definitely still light enough to layer easily. I also don't have any trouble layering either one over a light-weight shirt or turtleneck.

I get a really good fit in the J Crew sweaters because J Crew tends to cut a higher, narrower armhole than BR. While I wouldn't call myself small busted (34D), I have a broad back and shoulders so I size up to a large which gives the sweaters an easy-fitting, fluid drape which flatters my non-existent waist. The high, narrow armhole keeps the larger size from getting too droopy in the side bust area. My pants size is one size down from my top size, so hips are never an issue for me.

I machine wash all my merino sweaters after a couple of wears because I often wear them next to my skin. I put them in a laundry bag on delicate cycle and then shape them and dry them flat. The J Crew ones last for several seasons, just getting softer and nicer to wear.

I have the merino Tippi in a pattern from earlier this spring, and I really like it. I found my regular size (XS) to be on the fluid size, and found it a bit thicker. I also got their merino turtleneck last month, and that one was thinner. I like the quality of both.

Thanks, guys. good to hear that the quality is good. Suz, I don't mind thin, I prefer my merino thin and my cashmere thick!

Fit will probably be an issue as it always is for me and JC. They don't seem to believe in hips. I think maybe I should go to the store and at least try the Tippi, it should give me some idea of sizing for the v-neck.

I was looking at the Tippi merino crewneck yesterday.
I have a JC pale pink merino sweater from this past spring that is totally soft and smooth--feels almost like cotton--so that got me interested.
Not sure what size this year as I would want more fluid fit than on the models.

Angie wears the Tippis. So does Gaylene. I would like to wear them. :-)

I ordered one and ended up sending it back simply because I didn't feel the size was right on me for the fit I was after -- I would have sized up but they didn't have the one I wanted.

The merino was quite thin on the one I tried. It wouldn't work all that well layered over a shirt (despite the fact that they often show them that way). But it's really nice on its own, over a cami, or as an under layer with a blazer.

It comes in teal. How does it compare to the BR sweater? The BR sweater contains some proportion of nylon/spandex while as far as I can tell the JC ones are all merino, which I much prefer. Website says online only so I can't go to the store to try.

ETA: I also like this patterned one.
