I tried the Target tights and they are not great quality, after washing they are falling apart. I just got the PLUSH tights from Shopbop and they such a better quality, definitely worth splurging, much softer and come in various sizes. They arent bulky at all and dont roll, the waistband is super comfy. I also noticed other legging styles on shopbop and am definitely going to try them out. I'm in NYC and they are keeping me so warm!

I have the plush ones! Overall, recommended. I'm late for work but I'll update later with more info. Also, Anjali at goldenmeans reviewed a bunch of warm tights when she went to Paris last year in the dead of winter--some creative googling might turn up more info before I find the link--and also liked them (which is what convinced me to take the plunge).

ETA: The Plush ones are fairly thick--what I like about this is that they are very very opaque. When I bought them, they only had s/m and m/l and I was on a sizing-up-in-tights kick, so I got the m/l, despite being on the very low end of that sizing range. In retrospect, this was probably a mistake, since the only thing I don't like about the plush tights is that I tend to get ankle wrinkles which is not so cute. The waistband is thick but not tight? So there aren't any rolling problems. The texture is a little more shiny than normal tights, but stretched out over your legs, it's not really noticeable. I decidedly do NOT find them as warm as pants. But they make skirts bearable on days when they would otherwise not be.

And Anjali talks about warm tights here (scroll down):

I debated getting them when I spotted them on sale at Anthropologie in the spring. I was too distracted by all the warm weather stuff and forgot all about them until fall when they were back at full price. I did pick up an inexpensive pair ($10) at Target and love them. They are super warm and surprisingly breatheable. They don't feel bulky or roll up although of course they are very opaque. I would probably splurge for the Plush pair because they seemed nicer than the Target ones.

I believe Theresa posted about these during Australia's winter and I was intrigued. I bought a pair in store at gap for around $20. I've also seen them at Marshalls.

They are very warm. As warm as a pair of pants. As Theresa said, they look like regular tights.

When I tried them on at home, and I was already toasty, they were almost too warm. The next day I wore them all day, on a very chilly day, and I was fine with them indoors and out. I didn't have any problems with them rolling. I did notice the thickness showed a bit on the back of my knees, like any bunching was exagerated by the thickness of the tight.

Funnily enough, I have!

They were from an Aussie company called Flox.

I've only worn them twice but I really liked them - I am not used to cool weather so I found them much better than regular opaques, they were really warm and comfy (and felt nice against the skin too), and I don't remember the waistband rolling at all - but these are a different brand obviously.

They didn't feel super thick or obvious at all and I remember showing my friend and she was amazed because she thought they were just regular tights.

I only got them at the end of our winter, but I'm really looking forward to putting them through their paces next June/July!

I have not but I have seriously considered them from Sockdreams... If the wind chill here keeps up I may be splurging.

I was at a jeans boutique yesterday and they were selling fleece-lined tights by a company called Plush. I was really intrigued, especially because it was frigid here yesterday! Has anyone tried fleece-lined tights? If so, can you let me know if they are bulky, and if they sit up or end up rolling down at the waistband (I hate tights that do that!). These were $40 a package, so I would love some feedback before spending that kind of cash on tights.
