Though I am now doing the one in, one out. Or one in and one into storage ( my weight is all over the place so I am storing some things ). I find doing it by hangers just too arbitrary and impersonal for me , I know that sounds silly !!!</p> <p>I don't need my hangers all the same color but I do like them all the same style. I like the huggable hangers. I don't do well if one hanger hangs lower than the others. At the time, I just went with white plastic tubular hangers from Wal-Mart, but it made my closets look so organized and beautiful! I replaced five closets and the front hall closet with matching hangers. Everything looked so neat and orderly. My husband and stepkids thought I was nuts - replacing every single hanger in the house with the exact same make/model of hanger. Thing is? Everything lined up nicely. The closets looked bigger than they really were. In fact, I got a comment from our realtor about this. Oh...and my house sold in *one day*. </p> <p>Lately though, I've been buying those ultra-thin black velvety things. Closets are all mixed up again (re: hangers). It occurred to me that one way to decide how many clothes you would have would be to limit your hangers. You could decide to have x hangers for tops, x for dresses, etc., and if you bought something new you would have to eliminate something old. Has anyone done something like this? </p> <p>I've done similar things in other areas of my life - I have a hard limit on number of books I own - if they don't fit on my current bookshelves I have to get rid of something. I cheat a little with a pile on my nightstand and library books, but generally it works pretty well. Every so often I go through and have a cull and resort everything, much like I do with my wardrobe, but my clothes seem to expand much quicker these days. </p>
