I think the silhouette works well, but I still can't get over the knit factor - it seems inevitable that they would look like sweats, esp. from behind. But the picture is very cute!

On taking pictures at the stores - I rarely do it but always feel nervous. I would actually do it more frequently if I didn't forget to bring my camera all the time. Is it actually not allowed? Are some stores better about it than others?

Angie, They look lovely on you! You are thinking wearing it with what kind of blouse (tucked? Untucked? Longer? shorters?)

I have loved everything I've seen on Angie, but these still make me feel a little...hmmm. I've seen other Harems that I think would look better. These just look like old lady knit pants that are pulled up too high.
Don't hate me, Angie!! I'd love to see a different style, because I *know* you can pull them off.
On the no-pictures thing... I do take pictures in fitting rooms because sometimes I want an opinion before I buy something. But I always have the intent to buy, or at least try to make something work.
My younger sisters in laws and their friends go to the local stores and try on heaps and heaps of clothing, take photos, post them online, and never buy anything (can't afford it).
It doesn't seem like a big deal to them, even though I've explained it a few times, but the store still has to pay someone to put everything back and clean the fitting room, yet they didn't make a sale.
Obviously that wasn't the situation here, but I can understand why they'd be so snappy about it.

Here's a pair of harem pants I bookmarked back in May. Not sure why, because I'm not really able to wear heels, but they looked pretty to me, though they are a bit pricey (and are now slightly on sale) http://www.ssense.com/Paul__an.....ants/12937

I agree that you can pull off this style, Angie, and I share your sentiments about some knit pants making you feel sloppy. I don't like feeling like I'm wearing my pajamas out in public.

I agree that it's fun to try some trends that we like and are age appropriate and not take ourselves too seriously. Fashion should be fun if nothing else, right? ...and at best, it makes us feel "all that". I think it's kind of fun to look back at pictures of ourselves from decades earlier and see the fabrics and styles that we all agreed to at the time as "in" (not to mention how young we looked! ). I might try some harem types if they are not too voluminous, and feel right.

Hah! That’s the picture that was taken just before we almost got escorted out of UO. (Btw, you make me blush ladies, and I'm undeserving of your kind compliments. Thank you).

You know how I feel about knits in general, and especially in pants. These knitted harem pants felt like sweats and I actually recommend them for lounging. They are INSANELY comfortable and cool to wear – are you listening Austinites? But the only pair of knit pants that I can get my head around are the Ponti de Roma styles I blogged about a few weeks ago. I can’t bear to feel sloppy and unkempt and these made me feel just like that (and the quality was awful). The sweats I’m wearing now feel less sloppy!

That being said, I am always up for a change of outfit menu and I’m quite fearless with my fashion choices. I like to be one of the first to wear a fashion trend if it tickles my fancy. But there will come a time in my life where I’ll have to tone down the trendy aspect of my style and become more modern-classic, so I aim to have as much fun with fashion while I can. 17 years of hardcore fashion experience will do that to you. I *had* to at least try these harem pants and if I ever find the perfect silk pair that makes me feel pulled together and fabulous, I’ll be open to the idea. It’s actually quite fun and entertaining to think back to the fashion we once wore and cringe, or say to ourselves: “what was I thinking?”. We can’t take ourselves too seriously, right :0)

I think someone as edgy and fashion-forward as Angie can pull this look off. However, it does not seem like a shape or style that most people could or *should* be wearing.

Everything looks great on Angie, though!

I'm with Maya - not a trend I can picture. I wonder if these are the kind of things that a decade from now we'll say "I can't believe we used to wear these" just like we did for bell bottoms. Not that I'm actually going to wear these anytime soon.

Oh Angie, you look too cute. I would not dare try those pants for fear of what they would do to my thighs. But you look very slim in them even barefooted. Did you get them, you brave soul?
Thanks for the picture Cathy!

I do not understand why salespeople are so adamant about not taking pictures in the store. I just don't get it. Why? Am I missing something? Is there any good reason why this is such a liability?

Anyway, it's hard to see the drape properly in this picture since the pants are black, but even on Angie's perfect figure, I just don't get them. I would rather see some leggings or a pair of clams. These just look like sweatpants to me. I would totally use these as yoga pants though. They look PERFECT for that. I hate how most yoga pants fall down the leg, especially during inversions. I find it annoying and fussy. To remedy this, I wore leggings for a while (gasp), but those just felt too tight and itchy. These are loose but the band at the bottom would keep them in place, which is perfect. Other than that, I wouldn't go near them. I'm surprised you love them so much Angie. They strike me as very boho.

Thanks for sharing Cathy! I didn't anticipate changing my mind on this but I was still curious to see.

In her August 17 blog entry, Angie posted about reconsidering harem pants. Several people wanted to see Angie wearing a pair.

It just so happens that while I was in Seattle, Angie took me to Urban Outfitters, where she tried on the same pair of harem pants shown in her blog (the first pair). Unfortunately, I was only able to get one shot before the UO salesperson scolded us for taking photos in the store!

http://i617.photobucket.com/al.....010016.jpg

I like how these harem pants look -- the crotch isn't too low and the legs aren't too baggy. Kind of like knickers!
