My own father left us far too soon, at 79. It's been more than a decade. He was a very special person. He thought I was wonderful and could do anything. I feel lucky you have shared your dad with us. I've lucked out and found one digitized pic of my dad at hand. My dad was, I think, a great man in the tradition of Silent St. Joseph. Extremely patient and forbearing, a man of great resolution and endurance, supremely compassionate and kind. If I know anything of compassion and kindness, it's from him. Truly, my friends called <i>my dad</i> when, for example, their cars broke down and they were stuck somewhere. My dad was also, after St. Joseph, a talented carpenter and craftsman. He made rather a lot of our furniture. He was a man of science and letters. And last but not least, he was a civilised man of fashion and very entertaining. He gave me <i>Vogue </i>to read and Gucci to wear. Lol.</p> <p>Oh wait - you know who reminds me of my dad? Jacques Pépin. If you've ever seen his series, <i>Cooking with Claudine</i> (his daughter), my dad was just like that. My dad totally set me up in the kitchen and used to send me to school with <i>pâte en croute</i> in my Snoopy lunchbox. Anyways, my dad taught me to cook like Jacques Pépin taught Claudine - all scooting you out of the way saying, "'let me show you" and "you can do it next time." And you know, you just hang out there because your dad is so happy! Lol :D</p> <p>p.s. I think every parent wishes to have a positive impact on their child/ren and to be remembered, so it looks like your dad was an extremely successful man in that regard. </p> <p>My dad passed when I was 17, and I miss him all the time. He was the brightest, most well read and most artistic person I've ever known. I was 25 when I lost my dad -- he was 65 and that seems so young, so I know that losing your dad must have been even harder. My husband was 6 and his dad was 41 when his dad died. </p> <p>I treasure my memories of my dad -- I thought of him yesterday at the Orioles baseball game, as he was the one who made a fan out of me.
