Brilliant solution. The silk square dresses up the casual tote, so it complements the classy MK bag. Enjoy your creative problem-solving!

Thank you Lisa!

Thank you for all your advice in respect of the two bag question. I bought the second bag, and have tied a small remnant square of a silk scarf to it, so now I have two bag days, with the MK and the neutral. It works for me, and both sit on my knee, so no prospect of forgetting anything (may be!). Other days I take my trusty navy Radley, which fits everything in.

I did the 2 bag thing when I was working. I still have my leather tote bag for my papers and laptop and my handbag. I also have my larger canvas and leather bag from Eddie Bauer for when I am teaching. So sometimes I do the 3 bag thing.
But I drive in my car. If I was commuting I would try and somehow do one bag. I worked with people who used a rolling bag. A suitcase really. More than one bag and I would be terrified of losing one.

I like the new bag how it is, I don't think you need to dye it. I love both bags and thing that they complement each other.

Although my work bag (same color as your MK bag - I love it!) usually suffices, sometimes I need to carry a second bag on my commute, and it's pretty common here in the D.C. area to do so. I actually think the two bags complement each other fine and would not necessarily need to be dyed. With my wine-colored bag, I carry black or other neutral totes without a second thought. Good luck!

If you dye it, isn't there a chance it will rub off on your clothes if it rains? Maybe keep looking for one in the color you prefer.

I can't do the two bag thing. I'm too scatterbrained and would most likely leave one or the other on the bus. And when one contains my laptop and the other my wallet that's a very bad thing! The other issue is that if I have two bags they both need to be hands free but also not bump into each other or be otherwise annoying when walking. So, my solution for laptop days is a single large bag. I usually use my longchamp le pliage or similar lightweight tote style as it doesn't add much extra weight (important bc the contents of a bag that big are heavy on their own!). It's big enough to hold everything. On occasion I'll drop a small wristlet inside if I know I'm going to lunch or something.

Anyway if the 2 bag thing works for you, more power to you. But do consider how the bags will interact when you are carrying both, as well as the overall weight. I like the bag in 1-3 but it wouldn't work for me because the handles are too short to get it over a shoulder. Remember also it's likely to be heavy when filled w papers and do you really want to be holding all that weight in your hand/wrist all the time?

Thank you kkards, I agree, it seems to me clunky, but two years into a commuter way of travelling, it seems to me logical.

Angie, good to hear that your SIL does take two bags, and helpful to me that you think this is logical. Brooklyn, it is helpful to know that you carry two bags and it works for you. The MK bag is even lovelier in real life! Thank you Joy.

Emily, I think you are right, but my lifestyle (due to the studying) is restricted to really only needing a bag this smart during the week. I have a blue Radley bag that fits most things in, though, so I can swap around.

I'm off to buy the buy and some dye, to have it as navy blue, so that against my navy jackets, it will let the MK shine!

I like Angie's thoughts. In fact I often organize by tote bags for things I need or a book group or class or meeting and grab that bag plus my bag with billfold, sunglasses, keys, etc. when I go.

What Angie said. I often carry 2 bags. Sometimes one bag is my gym bag. Personally I find it a bit easier if both bags don't have to be carried the same way, so these combinations work for me:
Backpack (I have a lovely smallish leather one) and satchel or tote.
Backpack and cross body bag.
Cross body bag and satchel or tote.
It looks like the MK bag can be worn cross body so, personally, I would have no trouble carrying the tote that you propose.
Love the MK bag.

LOVE your beautiful new MK bag. KILLER.

My stylish SIL who lives in London ALWAYS carries two bags and commutes daily by bus, train and foot. It's a very done thing in the UK and the rest of Europe. I get it, and like your idea, Jane. She has her fashion bag - that she changes daily to match her outfit - and a range of fun totes with zips (for the rain) that carry papers, iPad, lunch, groceries, newspaper - and whatever else.

My choice, in this situation, would be to use one bag on the course-work-carrying days and reserve use of the smaller bag for the other days of the week. Managing two bags would seem really clunky to me. That said, I think the paper-carrying bag is a reasonable choice to use in tandem with the MK bag.

so, I know that what we each need/want in a bag is very personal....and the bag in #1-3 is very nice, but personally, I need a bag with a longer strap so that I can be hands free if needed.

I would so value your views on how to solve a problem.

This is my beautiful (IMHO!) Michael Kors handbag, that I looked at for weeks in the store window, and resisted. Then by chance, I went into the store, long after it had gone out of the window, and asked. There was one left, in the basement, (meant for me). It was in the sale, so thankfully I didn't need to pay anywhere near the full price (phew). So I bought it and really enjoy it. It has a short and a long strap, interchangeable, is wonderfully well made, is so easy to use.

BUT, it doesn't fit my papers in that I need to read on my train commute for my college work. So, I need a little bag, 3 days a week, just to carry A4 sized papers. I have used other paper bags, but I forgot the paper bag last night on the train on the way home, and then had to rescue my exercise books from the last station on the track earlier today (quite a distance, but I was so pleased that the cleaner on the train had found them). So, I definitely need something else, or not use my bag until I have finished my course!! Not really an option, as the bag needs to be socialised, I think!

I saw this bag today, and thought it may work, but I don't know. I thought I could dye this bag a colour, or add a little neckerchief to tie the colour in with the MK bag

I'd be so pleased to hear any thoughts that you may have, and alternative ideas.

Thank you for looking.
