This is a highly structured bag, so the leather is not slouchy-soft or the bag wouldn't hold its shape. It has a texture to it, not perfectly smooth, and a substantial fabric lining. I wouldn't call the leather stiff, Kristen, but because it's sewn into a box shape, the bag can support itself even when empty.
