I had a halogens summer top that I loved and it came apart at the seams. There were sold out so not an option to exchange for the same top. I bought a trouvé as a replacement for it. Hesitant about halogen now as well.

Yes. My Eileen Fisher silk crepe slacks. They were long enough. They felt cool to my skin in the summer heat. They had pockets!!

I felt they were going to become the backbone of my Summer capsule but after less then five washings, the silk started to fray pretty badly. The fraying started slowly, but once it was underway, it sped up. I returned them. I learned that I didn't need them after all.

BTW I own two Halogen skirts. I stopped buying them not because of quality issues but because I wanted to avoid additional duplication. Two seems the perfect number.

I have had a lot of misses with Nordstrom's halogen line. I know many others like it, but I have equated their quality closer to some of the nicer pieces at Kohl's. Some of their other house brands have been spectacular, just not Halogen. At least, for me.

Peri, I wouldn't worry. I had a couple of tops targeted but they didn't work as well, and I had not yet been able to figure out if it's the skirt colors, or the top proportions, or if I just needed to haul out my sweaters and sweat through more top options. I've been feeling very picky and ticky about what goes with what lately.

The defect was discovered during a long closet editing session, and I think I was just tired and thought I might want to take a breather.

Also, I talked with the SA in a live chat today, so of course she asked if I would like to exchange for another. Since I had just discovered the problem yesterday and was mainly checking to see what info they needed to process the return, I wasn't quite ready to commit to getting a new one & felt like I didn't want to give an instant "yes" even though I know I could return that one , too if needed.
So now that I've had a breather, and haven't yet packed it up to go back,
I think I will try it on with "new eyes" as to whether it's all that. if they still have it. Or it may be one of those things that just fades away from memory!

Yikes!! I bought it too...still too hot to try it. I hope mine doesn't do that! But also, yikes...black tights were what I had planned! Plus thinking it would go easily with different color sweaters! Hmmmm. :)

That's disappointing, though your "breezy - more literally than I expected" realization made me giggle. Nordstrom's basics like this seem to vary in quality a lot depending on fabric and when they were made - it's probably due to coming from multiple factories, but it's still frustrating since you never know what you're going to get.

I ordered the denim midi during triple points this weekend (since sold out in my size) and I'm crossing my fingers that it's OK.

I've definitely had items that have worn out or that don't fit anymore that I expected to miss a lot more than I did. That's one of the reasons I don't stress too much about trying to make my clothes last for years and years. Some pieces do but often by the time they're ready to go I'm more than ready to let them go.

I got this Halogen seamed pencil skirt in the B& W Betty pattern and have only worn once or twice.
This weekend while doing "outfit creation" I though it seemed breezy and lo and behold, it was shredding apart at one of the seams.

I am arranging to send back, of course and no worries about Nordstrom's service. Interestingly they have one in stock, and though offered an exchange, I think I will pass. It is a combination of not wanting to worry about its falling apart, especially if I build capsule around it, but also maybe decided it's not as easy to outfit as I thought. It seems as though it ought to go with lots of solid tops and I intentionally wanted the white and beige bits for summer and for "nude" footwear, but it reads more white bits than it looks in the photo, and that may be one reason I didn't wear as much, and it doesn't go with dark tights and so it's more summer, and summer is over.
So, it seems fickle, but I may be "over" it and would rather work with something else. I was more desperate for a bit of length, this one is sort of just at knee, but now with tights season approaching I can wear skirts that felt a tad too short with nude hose.
Also add to that my zeal for closet editing and ha, "drilling down" (gotta love that New Age bureaucracy phrase) to the fine points of what works.

Over to you--have you had an item melt-down and found you didn't care as much as you though you would?
