Based on my experience with that particular skirt, I would say the size chart -- or the skirt -- is a bit off the mark.

Just order your normal size. Remember, the material does have a bit of stretch. If you're really worried about the skirt not fitting your hips, then order up one size, but I'm not convinced you'll need to.

Based on the chart and with my waist and hip measurement of 28 and 39, I was between an 8 & a 10. Normally when that happens, I go with the larger size.

I used the comments of previous buyers to guide my decision. Most women who bought the skirt said it ran big, really big, so I took a deep breath and ordered a 6. I NEVER wear a six. This fit perfectly.

The most recent review says this re: fit, and I think it is accurate:

"If you are curvy and have full hips and a narrow waist - this is your skirt. I normally wear a size 3 and it fit perfectly. There is room for your hips without making the skirt too boxy."

Sadly, that is the opposite of me - because the new colors (ORANGE?!?!) are to die for.

Is the Halogen seamed pencil skirt washable? I think Nordstom's website says dry clean only....

By the size chart I'd have ordered a 4 but a 2 fits fine or maybe just a bit big.

I would order by your waist size in this case and size down. I am a rectangle from ribs to knees and found this skirt way big in the hips for me.

Thanks, Elly! That's exactly what I wanted to know.

I have 42" hips and 29" waist. The size chart says I should be a 12-14 (!) if I go by the hips, or 8-10 if I go by the waist, hence why I was super confused. In normal, non-pencil skirts, I usually buy 8-10. I'm thinking that, given your experience, I should go for the 8.

Just goes to show, I think all you ladies are right and I should not put too much stock in the size chart!

Well--- I have 39.5" hips and a 26" waist and wanted to wear it at the high waist. The size chart says I should be a 10. I ordered a 6 and and 8--- the six was decent and would have fit had I wanted it wear it low around my hips and looser like a lot of the ladies here do. I also could have probably tailored it. However, after careful playing I realized that there was still a little room in the hip and lots in the high hip. So, I send away for a 4. I am hoping it fits. SO, unless you are bigger than me-- I would recommend going with a 6 or smaller. It completely explains how the smaller sizes always sell out.

I also went one size down from my normal size -- 0P instead of 2P -- and it fits just fine! I never look at the sizing charts so I can't really help you there -- sorry!

Using the size chart, I ordered an 8 which was too big in the hips and too long for me. I sent it back for a 6P, which is a little snug in the waist (I am a busty rectangle and usually like skirts to sit a little lower than natural waist, so it may be just that I am not used to feeling a waistband at all) and perfect everywhere else.

Maybe someone else can comment on the accuracy of the size chart. I almost never look at them except inseam and skirt length measurements because I don't find them all that helpful. You really don't know how the fabric is going to lay on you for a specific garment. Now that they have free shipping and free returns, order two sizes to try the best one. I wear a 4P in GAP/ON/AT/Loft, etc.... I ordered the 4P in the fever pink seamed skirt. It fit very nicely but was just a smidge too big. I probably would have kept it but it was damaged. I got the 2P as a replacement and it turned out to be perfect.

For Kari, MaryK, and anyone else who owns the Halogen seamed pencil skirt...

Did you guys size based on your waist or your hip measurements? I have a 13" difference between my hips and waist (this is why normal pencil skirts just won't work for me!) and I would be 1-2 sizes larger if I sized based on my hip measurement. I'm concerned about having too much waist gaping if I go for the larger size though... I need the waist to fit at my natural waist since all narrow skirts will ride up to my waist anyway when I walk and I hate having all that loose fabric bunched around my waist ...

Also, would you say that the size chart here is accurate?
