I'm learning so much from this thread (my answer 2 minutes ago would have been "french roll, which is how I'm wearing my hair today!)

Adelfa this is perfect, thank you! I am not good with hair so I really needed it step by step. I need to print this and hang it on my bathroom mirror My hair is flyaway and straight already so I never thought of the flat iron before.

Product is key. I don't know what your hair is like but mine is prone to fuzz and frizz and random waves. Here's what I do:

1. Put a silicone product on wet hair (these are marketed as "drops" often).

2. Blow dry hair as straight as I can with a big round brush. Spray all over with styling spray and blow dry a little more.

3. Go over quickly with a flatiron.

4. Finish with hair spray and run my fingers through sprayed hair so it doesn't look like a helmet.

My hair is not long, but all of this would work for longer hair. I spelled it out because it took me forever to figure out how to get my hair to look polished!

Thanks so much, I went to my stylist today, got a few highlights and asked her how to make it look polished. She introduced me to a flat iron!

Congrats first off. I would likely refresh some highlights and wear sleek but down. My hair is shoulder length. The alternative is a low bun as Emily suggested.

How long is long? For dressier work occasions I wear my hair in a neat low bun, french braid, some cobination of french braid and low bun, or down and freshly blown out.

I either blow dry it straight and sleek or pull it back into a low ponytail, as rachylou said.

Boy, if I want to be business polished, I cut it short. Not helpful, I know. My next best is a low ponytail and a little hair product.

I absolutely encourage getting a spiffy hair refresh before a new job.

Hello! I'm starting a new job next week and I am working on putting together a polished and professional look. My first day entails an all day meeting with 50 people at a nice hotel in Bellevue. Although this is a software company, folks will be flying in from around the country to attend the meeting so I am expecting to dress in a business attire, even if typical days at work are more business casual. Ladies with long hair, how do you style it when you want to look polished? Are there any sites you visit for inspiration?
Do you recommend visiting the salon right before a new job?
Thanks!
