Thanks, everyone. Your opinions were very helpful. I think I'm going to go for it. I'll post a photo (or two, styled and wild), to let you know how it comes out. Maybe I'll get inspired to blow-dry my hair every time I wash it, but it's nice to know that it won't be a disaster if I don't.

Taylor, I've been hoping to wait a few more years before I have to decide about coloring my hair. The gray is mostly on the underside for now...though I guess you must have seen it in the photo. I dyed my hair (auburn) for a while in college, and I spent a lot of time with the roots showing because I didn't get it done often enough. But I'm older and better organized now, so that wouldn't necessarily be a problem at this point. I'll talk with my stylist about the possibility.

Sandra,

Thanks for posting your photo along with a photo of what you are going for:)
Also you are looking for something low maintenance so rollers, blowers, and all irons are out...thanks for being honest about that:)

The length and layers in this photo should work very well with your hair. It looks like you have some natural bend in your hair and the layers will help add lift and compliment you natural bend/curl. You should be able to add mouse, comb style and go:) Please bring this photo to your stylist and tell him/her your desire to NOT spend alot of time and product on your hair....:) Remember the results will not be the same if you don't style with a blower as the photo, but I think you realize that.
Have you considered coloring?

I think the style you linked to would look great on you, but please don't think it will look like that without styling. I know wash-n-wear hair is the holy grail but any picture of a hairstyle you see is going to be *styled*.

I don't know how you feel about this, but this is the way I minimize the daily effort I have to spend on my hair.

I wash it only once a week and I schedule enough time to wash, dry and style it. I blow it out and either put a few curls in it or (more often) flat iron it. The total process takes about an hour but I only do that once a week. The rest of the week I do minimal touchups with hot rollers or a flat iron (just taming a few areas if necessary).

If you are accustomed to washing your hair more frequently, be aware that it takes some time for your hair to get used to being washed less often. After some weeks though, it will settle in and look just fine all week.

I'm the opposite of Louise. When my hair is only one length, I can't handle it. It's too heavy and shapeless. I need layers so that my hair naturally falls into the right shape even if I don't style it.

But bear in mind that no matter what length my hair is, I have to minimally blowdry it. That is the least amount of styling I can expect. I often straighten it as well. I have just learned to accept this as part of my routine every day. The style you chose would definitely need to be blowdried, otherwise it looks like a frizzy mess (on me).

So, ultimately, fuss-free or not is hugely personal. Hopefully Renata or Taylor can tell how yours will behave.

I like the cut you posted as well but it does look like it would require a hair dryer. I am definitely NO EXPERT though!!

I can certainly make a commitment to getting it cut regularly, but I'm not sure about everyday styling because I don't know what it would require. I'm hoping that Taylor or someone can tell me.

I love the style you chose! Also, you have gorgeous soulful eyes. Who notices the hair when you have eyes like that?
Seriously, the one you linked to doesn't look very labor intensive, but I'll let our experts answer for sure.
I might consider that style too. I had actually been thinking of going pretty short, but I do need some length to soften my looks.

Hopefully Taylor our resident hairstylist will chime in.
I wash my hair and leave it to air dry no product, no styling except for special occasions. My hairstylist advised a simple one length cut with no layers and a slightly shorter bit at the front, this has worked perfectly for my no fuss attitude to hair x

I'm overdue for a hairstyle change and looking for ideas. My style is generally classic, but my hair is a bit too classic at the moment and could use some more interest. Depending on how I style my hair, it can be moderately wavy or mostly straight, as in this photo:
http://i874.photobucket.com/al.....t_0690.jpg

My face is heart-shaped, so I'm supposed to avoid styles that are shorter than my chin or have too much volume on top. I'm 42 and would like to look roughly my age. Something like this appeals to me:
http://www.wigsalon.com/img/fu.....on2-rw.jpg

Would a cut like that require a lot of styling to look good? I don't blow dry my hair, except for special occasions. Though I can manage to put some product on and push my hair into shape before letting it air dry, it wouldn't be smart for me to get a cut that looks bad without a lot of attention.

Please let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
