Suz, I can almost make a pony at the current length but it has to be fairly high and is really short. I like the ease for golf season. :)

Thistle, yes, I do have a hairdresser that I trust. No that I think about it, she did try to talk me out of going short. Perhaps I should have paid more attention but I think it was the bangs that was throwing it off.

Aida, I have had my hair similar to #8 but only curled it with the big iron when I was going out. I found the longer it was, the more it curled. I always thought I had straight hair until it got past shoulder length a few years ago.

Rae, I like #3 too but worry that I would always want it tucked. I seem to tuck unless I have layers.

Pil, good suggestions. I think the little clip might be a bit too young for me at 50 but I have seen really good examples of that technique so it could work.

Rachylou, I really like #1 and #2 and have worn this style when growing out length and really liked it. I am debating whether I want to try something new or go with tried and true. I like # 7 too but worry it would make my face look too long and narrow. I think it is close to doing this to Jennifer G too.

Freckles, I agree. I saw a lot of pics of cuts that I really liked but passed by because I thought the bangs would drive me batty(er). :)

Thanks so much for the input. I have a month to mull it over and appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Rachylou makes an excellent point. I still haven't decided what changes to make with my hair, but I took some pictures of me in for my new-ish stylist and she was quickly able to pick out what didn't work.

#3 jumps out at me right away, as does #8 but I don't think I've seen you put any curl like that into your hair before?

With three or four I find they look completely different when worn behind the ears or brought forward as a regular pageboy. You can also take the front section and curl it back somewhat so it is inbetween the two.

I would start with that as it can always be layered later if you find it doesn't suit your purposes.

A lot of the other cuts I feel would drape in your eyes and drive you as crazy as the bangs.

#1, 2 and 7 are my votes.

*But* I'm developing a new theory that instead of taking in photos of hairstyles you like on other people, I think taking in photos of how your hair's been might be the most helpful.

I only recently cut my hair short, so I know nothing about growing it out. But I like the look of 3 - the hair seems to be out of the face while the others cover it up more. Possibly would do a little pony, too.

I like 1 and 2 with their shaggy layers. They are interesting cuts without being too fussy. They also look like they would be good 'intermediate' cuts if you then decided to go longer. It all depends on the thickness and texture of your hair, doesn't it, and your hairdresser will probably know best.

Hair is so hard, isn't it? Being new, I haven't seen pictures with your long hair but I like the cut in your avatar. If nothing else, if you go with long bangs they could be tucked behind your ears and maybe clipped back in a banana clip if you aren't averse to those on occasion. They were useful to me growing out my hair because they grab more hair than a rubber band.

I know close to zero about hair. Honestly, I tend to trust my stylist. I tell her my needs, she listens, and she usually get me to where i want to be.

Do you have a stylist you trust?

Well, you're not too far away from the shag cuts right now - or won't be, after 5 more weeks. That is an easy look to grow short hair into. I wore my hair like that for a while when I was growing it out. The one issue is that it won't (probably) work in a ponytail at that length. Depends where your back hairline ends, but for me, those looks are pretty much wear as-is. I do think your hair's texture would work really well with a cut like that.

You could then have it trimmed into the shorter bob....and decided how you felt about that before growing longer?

Hi all,

I went from long hair without bangs to long hair with bangs to short hair with bangs in the last six months or so. I am finding that I am not enjoying the bangs as much as I did years ago since they seem right when I get the cut and then too long in a week or two.

I am debating hair again. I miss the ability to use a ponytail when I want my hair out of the way so am thinking to go a bit longer again but think I let it get too long last time and that may have caused the drastic shift to short.

I have a small face and fairly close set eyes so need to be cautious about having hair on my face and especially near the eyes.

I surfed and found a bunch of pics of styles that might work and thought I would post and ask for opinions/advice. I haven't had a hair cut since early December and am not back to work (surgery next week) for another 5 weeks so it will grow a bit again by then. Here are the pics. I am trying to group them into similar styles.
