Aquamarine - I can also echo Anna's recommendation for both folica and Sedu driers. I had a T3 - I liked it but it died in less than 2 yr. Not acceptable for the price point. Same Hanair professional but I think they are out of business. Just got the Sedu revolution and have owned it for about 3 months. Small, powerful but I can't tell you about longevity yet. There are a lot of babyliss at my salon but my hairdresser prefers elchim. I do find that professional dryers are faster and leave my hair smooth and shiny compared to the conairs. I have fine hair very prone to frizz and I wear it in a smooth bob so shine and smooth is crucial to me. Folica was a pleasure to order from too, fyi. Good luck!!

Wow, thanks for the recommendations y'all. All these brands I've never heard of....clearly, I need to look elsewhere besides Target for hair dryers! Off to do some investigating...

I have a BaByliss Pro: it's going on six years old, though I haven't been using it much in the past few years. For travel I have a tiny little Sedu, I'm very pleased with its performance, but it's new enough that I can't comment on the reliability. I was replacing a Conair travel dryer every year, though, so I have high hopes!

Thanks for the thread. Though I went short last December, I went super short last week due to ++breakage. My blow dryer has been running hot, and actually smoking a bit. The stylist said I had a lot of fried hair!

I'm in the market for a new dryer (like yeah!) and was advised to get a ceramic!?!?

I would like something smallish...I plan to keep my hair short, and don't want to deal with a heavy piece of equipment.

I have a Rusk Speedfreak dryer that I really love. The price isn't nearly as high as some, and it does a great job drying and straightening my very curly hair. It has three heat setting and three speeds.

I was replacing my hair dryers every year until I invested in a BaByliss. I've had it for more than a year and like it. I bought it at Ulta when they had a 20% off everything coupon.

I don't have a Solano. I have a Sedu which is also expensive, but I've been very happy with it, though the diffuser has a tendency to pop off. I think I've had about three years or more. My former hairdresser I noticed also used a Sedu.
folica.com is having a sale this week and the Sedu is 20% with a coupon code BESTSELLERS20
Do NOT get a T3, my pooped out in only a few years which is unacceptable given the price.

I have a BaByliss and I love it. My hairdresser says you don't really need the fancy expensive ones for home use.Part of what the professionals are paying for is the durability to be used multiple times a day, every day, and that's not what you do at home.

I'll have to check this brand out. I'm like you, Aquamarine, I buy the rather cheap ones and they work fine, but don't last. And it seems like they always die at very inconvenient times. Once on the morning of Christmas Eve!

My stylist recommends Chi (I think.) I have their flat iron but haven't used it in some time.

I have used a Solano, and it's still going after 10+ years. That said, my model isn't up to date with some of the newer features, and I'm looking to replace it, but not loyal enough to the brand to buy a more updated version. At present, I'm considering the second one down on this page, the TGR, which I hear is the same as the vaunted but overpriced Harry Josh dryer, just not as pretty: http://www.internetbeautysuppl.....owers.html. (Well, it used to be $100 cheaper: I just noticed the Josh is on 'limited time offer' for the same price, probably since word got out about this one). I haven't pulled the plug yet because it is expensive.

From what I've read, yes some cheaper dryers do fry hair so in certain cases pricier models may be better. But many expensive dryers --like the Josh--seem overpriced. That's why I haven't committed to a new one. My stylist sells an over the top expensive Swiss model but told me that any dryer will work on my hair as long as it's used on a cool setting. However, he says some people need better care because of the type of hair they have and what they are trying to achieve (straightening very curly hair, etc.).

Thanks for this question, Aquamarine, I'm watching with interest to see what others advise.

ETA, I just looked at my Solano to get the model number, and the dryer's so old and much used, that it's worn off. Maybe that answers your question.

Does anyone have a Solano hairdryer? My typical Conair/Revlon/etc. brand dryer lasts about one year before it dies. I mentioned this to my hairdresser and she recommended the Solano brand. They are pricey, but get great reviews on Amazon. For those of you who have one, is it worth it? Which one do you have?

If you have another brand that is professional grade, please share. I have really thick hair and need a good dryer.

(Does this belong in Off Topic? I wasn't sure.)
