My hair grows fast (into a mullet if I'm not careful) so it is 6 weeks maximum for me.

I usually go about every 6 weeks (4 weeks when I've had it very short).
I find that if I wait any longer than 6 weeks I reach a point where suddenly I can't stand it another minute and I start cutting it myself.
I don't usually do a bad job, but last fall I really butchered it, so I've resolved not to do that again.

Every six weeks for me - and I make sure to book my next appt. at the time. I've had a few bad experiences with not making my appt., waiting too long, getting frustrated, going somewhere else and ending up with a haircut I didn't like at all.

So now that I've found a stylist that I like again, I go every six weeks, and I make sure I book my next appt. as I'm checking out/paying for the cut.

Also - when my hair was longer, I could go about eight weeks - but I have bangs (fringe), and these need trimming a lot sooner than eight weeks. At the time, I was lucky to have a stylist who offered free bang trims in between my regular appointments. I could just whip in, get the bangs done and out the door. I'd give her a good tip of course, but the bang trim was "gratis".

Shorter hair = more frequent haircuts if you want it to keep its style.

I usually go 7 weeks (at 6 it hasn't begun to annoy me yet, at 8 it has annoyed me for too long)

I agree with Krish about the midpoint phenomenom, then comes the bit of extra product or round brush drying, etc. til the appointment.

I get my hair cut every 3 weeks, but I wear my hair short. To keep my hair looking neat I find it requires frequent trims. Your proposed cut sounds nice. I think it takes time for a new stylist to get really comfortable with your hair. The texture, thick/thin, how fast it grows. I also think one can fall into the trap of getting too comfortable over a long period of time.

As I have fairly long hair, I only chop it every 6 months and then let it grow back long again. Hairdressers have become expensive today so I can hardly afford it!

The shorter mine is, the more frequently I go because it requires that for any type of shape. I was getting away with much longer in between but will now be back to every 6 weeks.

I have mine cut every 4 to 6 weeks, but I am a neat freak and my hair must sit exactly right otherwise it drives me nuts. I think shorter styles generally require more regular attention. I like the sound of what you are suggesting for your hair. Are you thinking a very short 'french fringe'?

My short hair needs to be cut every 4 weeks. It's thick and grows like a weed, so it tends to lose its shape fairly quickly. When it was longer I could go 6 weeks between cuts no problem.

Hil, that happens with a new, shorter haircut, but you could also stretch it to 6-8 weeks. I find with shorter do's that I get this "bump" about one month into it, where I seem to have a couple too many bad hair days, but then, one week later, it "blooms" into something even nicer. I find that after 4 weeks, even after 3 weeks, I must use more product, or use the products differently. I play around with different kinds (pastes, waxes, shines etc) until I get a new, satisfying style.

Anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks for me, depending on how it grows out and my needs -- but usually somewhere between 5-7 weeks. But of course, mine is super short. It grows quicker in summer so I tend to cut more often.

How often do you go to have a haircut? I normally go anytime between every 2 or 3 months, but I am so ready for a haircut again that I have just made an appointment for tomorrow.

Looking back at my posts - my last cut was only about a month ago! I tried a new stylist last time, and overall I was quite happy with the style, but it feels like it has grown out of it's style very quickly! I am thinking that may be because my hair is pretty short at the moment, or could it be the quality of the cut? My usual stylist is amazing, but she is inconveniently situated and quite pricey and I felt like we needed some time out from each other. This new one is very well priced and just up the road and because she is new in her premises I don't battle to get an appointment with her.

I am thinking of maybe going a touch shorter at the back but keeping the length in the front and shortening the fringe a lot!
