I want to go back but not to HER. I don't trust her at all. If I went back to her, it would be free of charge, but if I switch to someone else...it won't be fair for them to do it for free. I'm not even their client. I'm not sure if they would allow that. I guess I'll call tomorrow.

Maya, from what I can see, you can get shorter thicker bangs put in, no problem!
Then you wouldn't have this hair hanging in your face, which clearly is annoying for you. If I was you, I would go back and let them fix it, and there should be no charge!

Well, in retrospect it is probably good you didn't have her cut it. If she didn't share your vision there is probably no chance she would've been able to give you what you want! Also, Maya, growing out a thick bang (IMO) is not as bad as growing out a wispy one, since the heaviness of the hair makes it a little easier to control and incorporate into the rest of your 'do. I've grown out and cut a heavy straight bang several times. I have a side bang now, but I like to keep part of it pretty short so it frames my eyes. I stopped having a bang because getting trims was really annoying. I didn't trust myself to trim it, so I would go to my stylist (it was free, but I still had to make time to go). I just don't have that kind of time anymore!

I think a straight fringe is very edgy. Obviously this woman you went to is behind the times...

Because it would be a lighter fringe and I don't like light fringes. I like them heavy and dense.

I just took a comb and brushed my hair forward into a faux fringe and I think the density is fine. It goes back a bit far on my head but not THAT far, and it's not like half my hair is taken up by the fringe. I wish I had just gone with my gut but I guess I am easily manipulated. She didn't say it wouldn't work exactly, but she said she "couldn't guarantee" success...which did not sound encouraging.

So, I think I am going to call them and ask if it can be fixed without paying extra. I just want anther stylist to do it though, which means I probably will have to pay. I don't mind paying for just a bang trim, but they are probably going to treat it like a haircut. What a headache.

Hold on...I will be right over....I wish

what REALLY irritates me is that your picture that supposedly wouldn't work with your hair texture...could have been modified to suit your texture...cut too far back eh...customize so it doesn't cut back too far into the hairline. Is she not the expert!!! Don't tell me what you cannot do or what will not work WITHOUT offering me s solution or compromise.

DO NOT go back to her!!! Oh, it is your responsibility to find a photo with hair more like your texture...HUh...Can't she figure that out herself. GRRRRRRR.

I will calm down and get back to you. For now you may as well as go for the full choppy fringe...EXACTLY what I would have done...customized...to suit your hair texture and shape of face...!!!

I would love to Angie. I'm not at all pleased with today's 92 degrees.

I might go back next weekend and see another stylist to fix it...but if I go to someone else, I think I'll be charged.

She is probably right that the styles I want start very far back on the head. If I don't start that far back, I'll end up with a fringe like this:

http://i62.photobucket.com/alb.....0005-7.jpg

Which is the last thing on earth I want. I'd rather have side bangs that fall in my face over a wispy, wimpy fringe. I'm just not sure I'm prepared to commit that much hair to a fringe.

I know hair grows, but growing a fringe is one of the most painful growing-out processes ever. I loathe it. Right now it will only be a few months before my fringe grows back out, but if I go for the straight fringe and hate it it will be at least a year just to reach my chin.

I think you should fly to Seattle and see my Theresa so that she can get your hair sorted. That way you can wear your new trench.

This is both interesting and very annoying. I have fine hair and had quite a heavy short fringe cut a few days ago. I am very happy with the result. I also have a small forehead and high arched brows, which means that it was not supposed to work. But the fringe works because it's very textured and cut above the brows - also my hair is extremely short. Perhaps that's another variable.

I am not a hair expert, but wanted to share my own recent experience just in case it might reassure you. I vote have the fringe cut short the way you want it anyway. The beauty of hair is that it grows.

Ugh, I had this happen. I was like, I want it longer in front, and long enough to put up, and he was like, okay, that sounds great, let's also put some angling in to frame your face. Later, I realize that angling is the OPPOSITE, apparently, of longer in the front and now the front pieces can't even be put up in a ponytail. Never went back, haven't found a new stylist. ANNOYING.

Maya, I think she has cut your fringe too short, why don't you speak to the stylist about the situation, I think having the fringe you wanted in the first place would rectify the problem. How many bad hair cuts could be rectified if we had the courage to speak up.

Remember that edgy or classic is subjective and what was once considered classic may become edgy overnight.

I won't be going back obviously She is new and doesn't have the same training as the other stylists at the salon (ironically she was hired to replace my beloved stylist who left in December). She did a good job on the rest of my hair, but it was unsettling to me that I had to tell her not to part my hair in the middle before she started cutting. I know some stylists do that but it doesn't make sense in my case. I never wear my hair parted any other way and it just ends up making my layers VERY short on one side and long and heavy on the other.

She said the straight fringe could look great. But she kept calling it "traditional" and "classic" and that drove me crazy because it was neither of these things to me. I told her I did not want wispy bangs, which she thinks are edgier. What? Sarah Palin bangs are edgy? Are we even talking about the same thing? I just feel like we were speaking two different languages. How are side bangs "edgy?" Every woman on the street has them. *shakes head*

Maya, if she doesn't know what she's doing then don't listen to her about cutting straight bangs! If it's what you want to try then just do it. At this point it sounds like straight bangs would be better than leaving her "handywork" they way it is, since it exactly the opposite of what you wanted!

FWIW, I think you would look great with straight bangs. I either have to have "real" bangs or no bangs. I can't do the side swept bang thing. Drives me insane as well. I feel for you! I actually think people with fine hair texture pull off bangs better than others, but that's just my untrained opinion. Hopefully Taylor and Renata will chime in. Bad hair experiences are just no fun.

I went for my haircut today, all excited to get my bangs, only to have the stylist put all sorts of doubts in my head. She remarked that the girls in the pictures I brought all had thick hair or were wearing hairpieces, and said she couldn't guarantee that they would look the same on my fine hair. She also warned me that they start quite far back and I'd have to cut a lot of hair. Long story short, I told her I would go back and try to find pictures that are more representative of my hair type. In the meantime just clean up what I already have (I did not go for the ASOS style, only because my hair isn't long enough yet. I'll go for it once my hair reaches the right length). So far even though I was disappointed, I appreciated her honesty.

While she was cutting, she said she felt the front of my hair was too heavy and asked if she could layer and shorten it a bit differently because she didn't want it to cover my "pretty eyes." I said that would be fine. She asked me how much I would be willing to cut, and I said it had to be long enough for me to tuck behind my ears. So far so good. I liked that she would ask me before doing anything.

But, despite what I said, she basically cut side bangs on me, which is exactly what I had before I grew my bangs out. I can't tuck them behind my ear. Too short. This is exactly WHY I grew my bangs out. I was sick to death of trying to keep them out of my face. I used to do it by tucking them under my glasses, but I'm not wearing glasses now and there is nothing I can do and I'm going absolutely batty here trying to type with hair in my eyes. I'm going to have to buy some hair clips and grow them out all over again. UGGGHH. I am so annoyed at this. I made myself very clear so I have no idea how she thought this was okay. The irony is that having no bangs meant that my "pretty eyes" were NOT covered. Now I do have one eye covered by my stupid hair. I think she realized that it didn't work on me as she started to blowdry it. Try as she might, she could not get my bangs to stay on the side. I already knew that she would not be able to, and if SHE can't do it, then there isn't a chance in hell that I can. I know they'll grow back but I am super irritated because I had JUST FINISHED growing them. My only other option is to cut straight bangs, which she told me I probably shouldn't do.

Grrrrrr!
